Grand opening of the New Art Exhibition from Trinity Yazimoto, “Fragments", on the October 19th at 12 pm SLT

Petit Chat Art Gallery is proud to present you a new exhibition from
Trinity Yazimoto : Fragments.
As she’s not the kind to reveal
herself easily, she gives all along her artworks fragments of her soul, which
came as pieces of a puzzle. Of course, she won’t give all the pieces but from
what you will see in this new exhibition you will be able to meet some parts of
her personality.
Fragments is divided in 2
sections : “reflections of a movie” and “other fragments”.
The new exhibition also
inaugurates the new art gallery in Moumou’s Square.
Set under a beautiful south
french landscape (created by Trixxie Nitely), the underground gallery hopes it
will please your eyes.
REFLECTION OF A MOVIE :
When she went to university,
Trinity Yazimoto decided to study Cinema. She followed this path for some years
till she got a Master in Cinema Studies.
Among all the classes she could
get, what fascinated her the most was the History of the cinema. She discovered
then some treasures almost forgotten by the public nowadays.
With this series of artworks she
wanted to pay homage to this rich artistic heritage reminding her of movies she really loves.
At the same time, since she got
now (thanks to her new PC) the ability to see shadows and materials, she decided to
create also something we miss in SL : reflections in mirrors or glasses.
The series includes 9 artworks
bringing up 8 movies.
OTHER FRAGMENTS :
Trinity will easily talk about what she does, what
she likes or dislike, what she wants or doesn’t want, but when it comes to talk
about her feelings and her inner side, she will barely say something.
As a way to protect herself she
doesn’t use to reveal a lot of her deep personality.
She will willingly joke about her
twisted mind or the fact she’s often said “bizarre”, but she will barely talk
about her own history which built who she is today.
She thinks these things remain
with her and in the past and she usually prefer let people guess or interpreted as they wish.
However, she often feels the need
to reveal things, but as she can’t do by just saying, she uses her artworks to
instill some fragments of her soul, leaving the choice to the other peoples to
guess or not guess and even to give another meaning to her pics. She wishes to
add some words for each pic on a notecard, but she doesn’t really say a lot for
the same purpose.
It is also for this reason that
she chose to use photoshop rather than doing pure photographs, as she feels she
can add more of her inner side through the post processing she applies to
her pics.
THE NEW GALLERY :
Petit Chat Argallery opened in July 2013 in the beautiful Haddath
Cove, on a parcel complimentary lent by Nati Jashan.
The building was an impressive
Steampunk tower and artworks were displayed inside and downstairs in the yard.
Trinity wanted to bring her
gallery close to Moumou’s Square, her public garden, where her
fashion store is.
Recently she got the opportunity
to buy a piece of land just next door and she asked her
favorite and talented landscaper, Trixxie Nitely to decorate the land for her again.
After long days of intensive
work, Trix delivered the result of her efforts : a beautiful south french landscape.
On a hill stands a ruin surrounded
by grapevines trellis. Two garden homes offer a peaceful spot to relax, and
behind the ruins, some tables propose refreshments for the visitors under a big
tree. Of course, as it is south France decor, cicadas give a permanent concert
of their best tunes.
Down the hill, a beautiful pond
will welcome visitors in a beautiful and rustic landscape.
A bridge will lead them to the
main part of Moumou’s square and further to Petit Chat mainstore.
One reaches the art gallery by
using the ladder located at the feet of the ruins.
Once underground, you will
discover Trinity Yazimoto’s artwork displayed in old and rusted building.
Even if it looks messy, Trinity
took a lot of care that every visitor feel comfortable while visiting.
On the back side of the gallery a
projector shows the artworks on a pile of boxes.
All spots are set to public and are free to
visit.

The Drax Files: World Makers - episode 23
Although 3D designer loz Hyde has a creative day job - he is getting paid to breathe digital life into Hollywood blockbusters such as Terminator and Guardians of the Galaxy - the user-created universe of Second Life holds a special place in his heart: "People have tried to analyze why SL is so successful and yes, the environments are beautiful, but I am more touched by the people!"
Among his many contributions to the community of colorful avatars is the now iconic "Arcade" building, which is inspired by the Brighton Pier in loz' native England. The Arcade in SL serves as a beloved destination for many residents during the Gacha series of events.
loz Hyde runs the "Meshworx" store in Second Life, where he sells his unique furniture and buildings to a global userbase.
Most "Meshworx" designs feature aspects that originate by loz' real life surroundings in California but in a rather subtle way: loz often goes out to photograph surfaces, materials, mechanical objects as well as details in nature that tell a story.
He then manipulates and layers these images to create dense textures, which he subsequently applies to his virtual designs.
"I promote Second Life like you would not believe" he explains, by showing off snapshots on his mobile phone to colleagues in the VFX community in Hollywood.
"In SL you can do whatever you want and that is the empowering thing. If more people knew that, more people would use it!"

2014 SL’ Got Talent Winner, Trinity
Ermintrood (Bubbles) started as a little girl singing for her friends on hay bale
trailers to the one with a nightingale’s voice at the talent show. At 30, she has an electric taste in music in
almost everything with a deep love for rock and country. She has been a karaoke
host and Dj for over 9 years in real life. She has been singing in Second Life
over the past year and has already got her hands full with requests for Live
Performances. One can book her by instant messages or notecard in world or
through other communication channels. Her schedule can be viewed at http://tinyurl.com/Bubbles-Schedule
Debby
Sharma: Please tell us something about yourself. And how did Second Life
singing happen? Would you like to explore other virtual worlds too as your
singing career?
Trinity Ermintrood: Well, I've been a
singer my whole life. I grew up on a farm, and I used to use the hay bale trailers
as a stage when I was a kid and perform to all my friends. Laughs. I've always loved performing in front of people.
Well, I used to record songs on to my PC
at home, with a pretty bad PC headset and some free software *laughs*. I
started DJing in SL a few years ago and every now and then, I would play some
of my recordings to people. I would be told all the time that I should perform
in SL, but I never had the equipment I needed to make that happen. Until a very
kind friend was adamant that I needed to be heard and funded the equipment for
me. I was just Djing a while back at a venue who had live performers and they
were willing to let a noob like me sing there, to start me out. And the rest kind of went from there really.
InWorldz has been mentioned to me a few
times, but to be honest, I am so busy here in SL that I wouldn't have time to
sing elsewhere, especially with my studying too. Plus SL is where all my
"fans" and supporters are. This is where I started and I'm pretty
sure this is where I will stay.
Debby
Sharma: How did you come to know about SL' Got talent? And how was your
experience there? How have the days followed after you were announced as the
winner?
Trinity Ermintrood: I actually sing at a
club owned by one of the judges from the auditions. She wasn't one of the main
judges only for the audition stage, but she mentioned it to me and told me I
should audition for it. I loved the whole experience, it was fantastic.
Although it was tough for me as all the rounds were at 7/8pm SLT which is 3/4am
for me and my neighbours certainly didn't appreciate me singing at that hour *laughs*. I never in a million years
thought I would win though. I was stunned to even make it through each round. I
was in total shock when they announced me as the winner!
Hectic, *laughs*. It was all very surreal. I had people IMing me non-stop to
congratulate me. I still couldn't quite believe I had won. And I was inundated
with requests for bookings, which is fantastic.
Photograph Credits: Trinity Ermintrood |
Debby
Sharma: What do you think about Live Performances vs Djing in Second Life?
Trinity Ermintrood: It's a whole
different kettle of fish to be honest. I love DJing, because it is my lifelong
love affair with music. I love playing good songs and people to appreciate
them. I love getting requests and learning new music that I may not have heard
before, discovering new songs and bands etc. But I truly love singing also.
It's what I love to do. I've always used music to express my emotions and such,
and I can do that much more through singing a song myself than just playing it.
I love the compliments I get when I'm singing *tries not to let head swell*. And I really enjoy the loyalty some
people have to their favorite singers. I never saw that much when i was DJing.
I had a few followers, but not like I do with singing. Although singing can be
a lot tougher than DJing, because if you're feeling a little off color, or not
having a good day, you still need to try and belt out those songs and hit those
high notes etc. Whereas with DJing, you can always play good music no matter
how you feel!
Debby
Sharma: What are your favorite genres of music? Do you have any recordings that
people may hear you outside Second Life, like on YouTube etc.? Is there any
song that you love to sing and which also defines you?
Trinity Ermintrood: Rock and Country, for
sure. Although I love literally every kind of music, from dance music to
classical, show tunes to hard rock, Blues, Jazz, Soul and Funk, literally
everything.
Yes I have a few videos on YouTube.
Although, they are very old and I was half drunk, doing karaoke and one pretty
bad recording of my final encore song at a small gig I did. I also have a Sound
Cloud page with many of my recordings on, that is updated regularly. It's
Trinity-Bubbles Richards http://soundcloud.com/trinity-bubbles-richards
There are many songs I love to sing; many
"old faithfuls" that I will always love. But I think, with my life
right now, the one prominent song to me, that I love to sing and that defines
me as I am at the moment, is Eva Cassidy's Songbird (originally by Fleetwood Mac).
All because of my partner, he calls me his songbird, and I sing that to him. He
also proposed in the middle of one of my performances, whilst making me sing
that song. My world revolves around him and my music right now, and that song,
combines the 2 and defines me pretty well at this point in my life.
Photograph Credits: Trinity Ermintrood |
Debby
Sharma: Would you like to sing at any charity concerts, if given an
opportunity?
Trinity Ermintrood: Yes absolutely! I
have done concerts for SU2C and Feed a Smile in the past and would love to be
part of something like that again.
Debby
Sharma: If someone wants to follow your path, what would you advice? Your
passion for singing, makes it sound so easy and simple, is singing really easy
in SL?
Trinity Ermintrood: Enjoy it!!! When I
first started, I was so nervous all the time. And it definitely showed through
in my gigs. I was always so worried about everything. I have recorded every
single one of my gigs from the very first and the difference between the first
one and my recent ones is huge. Once I learned to just relax and enjoy it, I
found I was much better at what I do and people definitely enjoyed my
performances more!
It can be. It obviously requires some
technical knowledge, and I was lucky enough to go to Music College and I am
also doing a computing/engineering degree so I know my way around technology.
And I was also lucky enough to have some good friends who offered great advice
when I first started out. It's a lot easier if you have a set routine before
your gigs. As in, give yourself a certain amount of time to prepare and choose
songs etc. But other than that, it is easy. Especially if it's something you
love to do. Again, enjoy it! And it all comes as second nature. I know for sure
that my singing career would not be what it is without the support of my
partner and my best friend Becks as well as my good friend Hardy. They have all
been absolutely amazing. And I couldn't have made it through SL's got Talent without
their support either and their belief in me.
Debby
Sharma: Would you like to say anything to your listeners?
Trinity Ermintrood: Just a huge thank
you for all their on-going support. I know I have some very loyal fans out
there and it most certainly is appreciated. I wouldn't be where I am today
without them, and they all mean a lot to me. So Thank You to everyone who has
stuck by me, encouraged me, believed and had faith in me and who has supported
me throughout my whole singing career in SL!

The Genetic Journey of Max Chatnoir- Bimala Tagore Reporting
Thursday, October 02, 2014
Bimala Tagore, culture, genetics, Genome Island, Max Chatnoir, science, second life, technology, The SL Enquirer
No comments
Legend: Max Chatnoir and molecules background
I had the
pleasure of interviewing Max Chatnoir, a distinguished Professor of Biology in
Texas Wesleyan. She is the “deity” responsible for the creation of the world
Genome Island. The build is dedicated to the study of genetics. The island was
designed to support genetics classes for university undergraduates studying
biology, but anybody interested in science is welcome to participate.
Visitors have
access to highly experienced author information, interactive microscopes, a giant cell model, virtual experiments and
variety of topics about inheritance. You will
observe methodological objects related to Mendel's life and work and vast
information in note cards about genetic
information.
Max has made
presentations about Genome Island and its use for teaching genetics at
conferences sponsored by VWBPE (Virtual Worlds Best Practice in Education)
Educause and the Texas Blackboard Users Group.
In Second Life she presented the opportunity to build virtual
laboratories in which on line students could perform experiments and data
analysis.
In this interview, Max Chatnoir shares with us her
valuable experience as a teacher in a virtual classroom and interactive 3D
laboratory with relevant information provided.
Although we discussed some of these topics, I would not regard them as
special interests of mine, nor do I have any particular expertise in them. I think it is simplest just to cut this
statement.
Bimala Tagore: More than five years have passed after you decided to create Genome
Island. How do you evaluate your project?
Max Chatnoir: I think that virtual worlds like this one are a
wonderful place for learning. You have the advantage of personal contact
with another thinking human, via the avatars, but you don't have to be
physically in the same place. They can ask whatever questions they have and if
I'm not here, they can just IM me, and they'll get an answer the next time I
come in. it's a nice combination of personal interaction with the convenience
of working online. I wish I could use it for the majors, but they have to
actually work with real equipment and organisms if they are going to be
scientists. It's my favorite place to teach general education courses. Science
for non-majors. The students also seem to find it interesting. I teach my
nonmajors course here every fall and sometimes, if we have a bad weather day, I
may bring the majors in for a substitute lab. We did a three-point-test cross
here once when the flies didn't come in.
Bimala Tagore: The hard path is easier when you
strive to learn. I have attained some insight about cell and study of genetics
in Genome Island, interactive laboratory environment. What is it about science
that interests you the most?
Max Chatnoir: What interests me most is that there is always
something new and interesting happening. A new genome gets sequenced, or a new
gene is discovered. I always point out to the research students, that no matter
what their basic project is, they are doing some kind of genetic analysis. I
think one of the exciting areas of contemporary genetics is bioinformatics,
which is why I have several bioinformatics activities up on the Bioinformatics
platform. Comparing genomes and comparing similar genes in different species. We
know that our genes didn't originate with us, but we usually don't stop to
think that most of them didn't originate with us as a species. Our genes
are older than we are. A lot of bioinformatics has to do with constructing and
studying the information provided in DNA and protein databases. Every time a
new genome is sequenced, the information goes into those databases. To learn
about what makes us, it's helpful to see what we do and don't share with other
species.
Bimala Tagore: Impressive application of biological
information. Does genes determine the way of how
we could react to our world and even how our mind could interpret the
existence?
Max Chatnoir: I do think that genes have something to do with
how we experience the world and react to it. Genes encode hormones and
receptors and neurotransmitters and their receptors and a lot of molecules
relevant to behavior. But it's not all genetics. Experience counts too in my
opinion. For example, my sister and I didn't really grow up together because
she is much younger. I was finishing college before she started high
school. But it's amazing how similar our preferences are. We order the same
thing in restaurants and like the same kinds of fragrances, even though we
spend very little time together- Got to be some genetics in there.
The great thing
about the human mind is that we don't just behave thoughtlessly, but that is
overlaid on what is sometimes called the lizard brain. And I'm not a behavioral
geneticist, so I'm not speaking as an expert here. But our minds are a whole
additional informational layer laid over our basic biology. It's like a
separate genetic code that is better developed in us than in anything else.
Bimala Tagore: Plenty of interesting subjects. Some scientists and
doctors have devoted their entire lives with the study of life and living
organisms. You have the “Abbey”
and “Gardens” on your “sim”. It is a tribute to Augustinian abbot Gregor
Mendel. Why is it so important to become acquainted with
Mendel?
Max Chatnoir: Mendel was the first person to articulate the
"rules of inheritance" for sexually reproducing species. The amazing
thing was that he had no idea what a gene might be. He just followed the
inheritance patterns. The name "gene" wasn't even in use in his time.
He just called them "elements." Other people had done crosses
similar to those Mendel did, but he was the first to offer an interpretation.
Each parent provided an "element" for each of their traits. And that
the offspring got one from each parent. For Mendel's traits, one of the two
parental traits was always dominant to the other (but that isn't always the
case); that the parental elements sorted
into the gametes at random and with equal probability. He did the mathematical
analysis, and probably nobody could follow his argument at the time he first
presented it. Yes, doing the mathematical analysis was unusual for biology.
Although William Harvey had done something similar to prove that the blood HAD
to be circulating. It couldn't just be made and destroyed all the time -- there
was too much of it moving around. But most of biology was natural history.
Like Darwin was doing collection, describing, classifying. If Darwin and
Mendel could have got together, they would have been a Force! But they didn't.
However, they were roughly contemporary.
Bimala Tagore: Your explanation about Mendel’s positions as founder of
genetics is pretty relevant. On the other hand, leading this interview toward
ethics aspects, there are numerous thorny sides of genetic research that may
lead to ethical and social quandaries. Gene therapy could lead to a dark side.
What is your opinion in this respect?
Max Chatnoir: Sure it could. Imagine if we did start making
"designer babies. Think of the social inequity, even assuming that all of
the biology worked as we anticipated? And it won't. Do we really know enough
about ourselves to design whatever we might think an ideal human is?
We can discover
a lot about fruit fly behavior, because we don't agonize over the death of a
fruit fly, but we can't do that with humans. So we have to depend on the
"accidental experiments" of nature. And I'm not sure that even that
is very nice.
Bimala Tagore: Regrettably,
polemics about ethics are crucial. For this reason, genetics research
information should always be open to frank human dialogue and Genome
Island can communicate to non-expert too.
Max Chatnoir: I think that it can help with what the average citizen
needs to understand about science and scientific thinking. Everybody doesn't
need to know how to run a centrifuge, but everybody should be able to
understand a scientific argument.
Bimala Tagore: I really appreciate the opportunity for this stimulating
interview. Thank you very much.
Max Chatnoir: My pleasure
