Plugging Into SL Unplugged- MajikVixen Reporting

  MajikVixen By CallieKatz

So having my first article published here, back in December, and becoming a part of the SLE community was pretty thrilling.  I even got a few group notices for the Playmate's Magazine.  That got this little voyeuristic vixen thinking about how she could become a part of that action.  So with Beltane having just passed, I thought it would be totally appropriate to share my experience with you all.

A while back, I allocated my curiosity to explore these intentions a bit with Daallee, The Vinnie Show Manager, one of the owners of The Living Room, my music & event-happening guru, and all around sweetheart friend.  I was concerned that because my avatar is stubbornly special, in staying true to the form of a succubus and prim, not mesh, nobody would want to shoot me for their publication.  However, a couple days later, Daallee referred me to her good friend and longtime Vinnie fan, Callie Katz, who as serendipity would have, just happened to be putting together a fantasy edition for her adult magazine that she Co-Owns with Core Nider, SL Unplugged!

I contacted Callie, and she was enthusiastic to get to work right away.  She was also very polite and professional, which would set anyone's mind at ease during a good, long, productive photo shoot.  She gave me a LUMIPro Talent folder, and all I had to do was wear some of it, and she was able to pose my avatar and get the proper settings she needed.  I must say, I did all the easy work of posing and providing a couple of pretty background places, while Callie went to work showing off her masterfully genius Photoshop skills.

We must have taken about a hundred photos, and Callie brought me back to her studio where I could look at them and take copies of whatever raw ones I liked best.  It was hard to stop myself from taking them all, to be honest!  I think I even took duplicates of my favorites, just to make sure I got them, LOL!  It was extremely hard to pick just one favorite, but she immediately took it into Photoshop and made it so I could use it for a profile photo, or even decorate this article with it (although slightly edited).  I complimented her on the Dr3amweaver Slideshow Deluxe photo-viewer she had, as any picture I clicked on, it gave me a copy of, with ease... and she even gave me the photo-viewer!  Such a sweetheart!

A couple months later, the issue came out.  SL Unplugged , Vol. 2 Issue 3.  It's so exciting to see your sexy self in print and to be able to share beauty with the SL world!  Succubus versus Fairy.  It's hard to tell who would win, as everyone in this magazine is just so gorgeous.  -And the stories!  Dripping with luscious erotic smut, my favorite!

Callie says they're always looking for talent.  Anyone interested should contact her or Core.  For the most part, SL Unplugged is distributed by word of mouth and a few advertising places, but they do have a group.  Anyone who wishes to get a copy of SL Unplugged should contact/friend them.

Is a world government possible? Do you want a world government?  Will it ever be possible to vote on the internet for a local or world government?

Or maybe you think the less government the better?  Is anarchism best of all?

Dem Bones - Lacy Muircastle Reporting...

Remember that song we learned at school?

Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones,
Now shake dem skeleton bones!

The toe bone's connected to the foot bone,
The foot bone's connected to the ankle bone,
The ankle bone's connected to the leg bone,
Now shake dem skeleton bones!

Welcome to your bones… What am I on about?  A skeleton for your avatar that’s what.  Why does your avatar need bones?  To facilitate body language of course.

Body Language is a significant aspect of communications and relationships.  In Second Life the use body language has not been available, until now that is.  Body language, and more technically the study of body language, is also known as kinesics (pronounced 'kineesicks'), which is derived from the Greek word kinesis, meaning motion.  The study of motion in second life translates to Project Bento.

Since late 2015 Linden Lab have been testing a limited release for Project Bento on the Aditi test grid, working with content creators. On 1st June they announced the second wave of Bento skeleton improvements.  This release is currently only available on Agni on the main grid. However, this is still a limited release.  Creators, recipients, and anyone wishing to view the new content must be running the latest Bento Project Viewer.

For more on the technical aspects of Project Bento, see the following links:

Club Accessible in Second Life - Hang out with friends – Joymell Reporting...

In Second Life we can learn many things about the technological environment, but also learn more about ourselves and others in the global virtual community.

The Club Accessible is one of the places that shows us that virtual actions can make a difference in the real world.

The club provides a safe and friendly environment for everyone to enjoy, regardless of their differences. There are people with disabilities and those who do not have disabilities, the bottom line being all can enjoy fun, dancing, friendship and social interaction in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

In the club, you will find different environments, such as a beach and a coffee house ... just come hang out with friends! Enjoy the open view of the sea, chat with friends with a cup of coffee in the little coffee house "The Captain's Cup."

Accessible Club is a region where everyone can enjoy their Second Life.  Real life people with disabilities are often unable to participate in certain events, which sometimes can lead to a feeling of isolation.   At the club, a disability does not affect the enjoyment of anyone.  Some members show their disability with the use of a wheelchair, prosthetics or hearing aids, others hide their deficiencies and yet other members are not disabled at all. The atmosphere makes everyone feel comfortable and secure, regardless of their differences …

The focus of the club is to be social and friendship is highly valued.   It’s a great source of support for many people.  Joining the club assists recently injured people, some of whom are still in rehabilitation, to find the support of other members with similar life events.

I interviewed Mrs. Megan Flinders, one of the owners of the club.   See the interview below:

Joymell: What is the Club Accessible?

Meghan Flinders: “The Club Accessible is a place where everyone can enjoy his or her Second Life through music and friendship. Everyone is equal and fully accepted. Whether you have a disability or not... you are welcome to come visit us at Club Accessible or at the Captain's Cup”.

Joymell: What events are offered by the Club, currently?

Meghan Flinders: “The club presently has DJs who entertain us three days a week. We hope to expand this and are always looking for new DJs and entertainment. There is a lovely beach across from the club where you can swim, relax on the sand or gather with friends at the lounge area. Beside that there is a small romantic gazebo for quiet moments or peaceful contemplation. For some extra fun we have a "Greedy" table and a "Can't Stop" table which you are welcome to play. A special part of Club Accessible is our cozy waterfront coffee house....perfect for you to "sit awhile" and catch up with some friends. A small snack bar is guaranteed not to make you gain weight! The theme of the area is a beach front look but we love decorate for every possible holiday or event (especially for Halloween or in winter)!”

Joymell: How can people get more information, and contact the group?

Meghan Flinders:If you have any questions please feel free to message any of the following owners...and their native language are listed: Alexis Odgar (Spanish), Meghan Flinders (English) or Zirrus Zabaleta (German).”

Virtual friendships: Do you have friends in Second Life? – Joymell Reporting...

Every day a growing number of people connect virtually and devote a considerable part of their time to virtual interactions in the search of friendships, love relationships and jobs, among other reasons.

In Second Life you can make friends within minutes.  Meet people of different nationalities and different cultures and lifestyles. But are these friendships that we establish in Second Life true? Reliable? Viable? Real?

These are questions that we reflect on.

It’s seemingly easier to make virtual friends than real ones. Possibly it’s the relative anonymity that the virtual world offers that makes the process easier. But the evolution of a virtual friendship is exactly the same that occurs when we make our real life friends. However, some say that the friendships we have in the real world, are truer than those established in the virtual world and virtual relationships have weaknesses from the point of view of life and sense of human relations and their complexity.

People can create personalities and identities that are not always consistent with reality.  Relations mediated by the Internet can be a decoy, suggesting that virtual friendships are not necessarily as effective as real ones. Many feel that these relationships are weakened by the lack of a real human presence.

The fact is that virtual friendships, as well as conventional ones, revolve around communicating with one another. When we interact with our virtual friends, we feel that many of these relationships can be lasting and know when there is or isn’t an emotional authenticity to them. Many of us go beyond everyday friendship and cultivate professional and artistic projects with our virtual friends. These virtual friendships, in most cases, do not transfer to the real environment and remain "online".

What’s interesting is that people in the virtual world, are given the opportunity to unlock almost all of real life’s limitations and express desires and fantasies of all kinds. For example, a shy person, or an unhappy person with low self-esteem, or a person stressed by work, can discover new possibilities and overcome these limitations in this environment where "everything is possible": the shy can be outgoing, the unhappy find that they can be sexy and desired, and the stressed feel relaxed and without pressure. From behind the computer screen, many of us can hide the worst facets of our personality, or on the other hand, discover the wonderful gifts that can be found when interacting virtually with others.

In my opinion it’s important that everyone enters into virtual friendships with their eyes open.  To think that there are no rules of engagement when establishing these friendships would be foolish.  Many residents in Second Life, maintain and grow their list of online friends, while others do not. Why is that the case? It depends on your motivation.  Those who maintain their friendships keep in constant contact with said friends.  Frequent but not excessive interaction facilitates the consolidation of the virtual friendship. You have to maintain a certain balance, otherwise you may have the opposite effect and start to bother and annoy people, and end up losing the potentially lasting friendships.

In conclusion we can say that a virtual friendship allows us to explore amazing possibilities which are often impossible in the real world. Moreover, these friendships can save us from loneliness, encourage us to forge ahead, facilitate our projects and possibly even surprise us.  Unfortunately as with our real friends, some of our virtual friends will let us down.

Spotlight on The 1920's Berlin Project - Camury Reporting...

Take a trip back in time to Berlin in the 1920s and enjoy this interesting political and cultural moment.

The 1920's Berlin Project is a historic community role-playing in Second Life that simulates daily life in Berlin during the Weimar Republic. This is one of the few sims in Second Life that is based on a historical period.

Teleporting to this region gives us the feeling that we actually are in Berlin in the 20s, in a realistic and authentic way. The project was conceived within the virtual world to help people understand Weimar (an unofficial designation for the German state between 1919 and 1933).

This sim has rules for all visitors. Before exploring this great city, people should dress in the 1920’s style (you can pick up free period costumes at the entrance), or buy some clothes from the vintage shops in town. The main idea is to see that all visitors and residents feel as if they belong to the period of time.

The sim has various roleplay elements to it, in as much as you will find residents living and working on it. Regular townsfolk behave gracefully and it is common for residents and visitors to use German phrases to greet one another.  In the city there are many English-speaking visitors and several other languages are also regularly spoken.

When walking the streets, you will see buildings which are exact replicas of real buildings, such as the exclusive and luxurious Hotel Adlon, the Alexanderplatz station, Zum Nussbaum inn and Brandenburg Gate. There are also other buildings in the architectural style of this era, such as the large block of Bauhaus-style apartments.

By exploring the place, you will find amazing modern houses where rich people in the live in the lap of luxury and leisure. Walking through the alleys and the dirty narrow streets, you will see small apartments where the poor working class live.

You can visit some of the most popular places in the city, such as:

Der Keller Tanzlokal (Nightclub)
-  a very crowded nightclub located in a wet basement, in one of the lanes of the city, where anyone can dance the Charleston or chat, and knock back a beer or two.

Asta Cinema - theater visitors may attend cartoons, news and movies that belong to this period.

Cabaret Eldorado - a fun club which the gay community attended.

Odeon Theatre and The Hindenburg Schule - are cultural spaces where visitors can find educational activities, films, dance, and live entertainment.

Schloss Museum – when exploring this museum visitors will find several exhibitions. When I was there, they were exhibiting old photos of Berlin in the 20s.  The Berlin Project 1920 has been maintained thanks to tenants living in the SIM, supporters and random donations from visitors. The residences in the city are almost always busy.

Come and see with your own eyes! Travel back in time, and enjoy beautiful Berlin in 1920 in Second Life.
