Sledding- Stacey Cardalines Reporting...

Winter can be a drag in the real world, with freezing cold temperatures, driving on ice and all that. It is important to remember that it is also a season of fun, especially when you factor in sledding. January and February need not be a season of misery. You just have to know where to go to find fun winter things to do. Enter Stacey...

Sledding is a lot like her cousin, skiing, but sledding is easier to do. Skiing involves buying a bunch of gear and driving up to Vermont to go to the mountains. Sledding can be done in your hometown (if your hometown has snow) with a sled you got for $9.99 at Target. You don't have to buy a ridiculous spandex bodysuit to go sledding, although I did so.

I have an image to uphold, and I also wanted to dress brightly so the St. Bernard dogs could find me in whatever snowbank I sledded into. I then went off in search of somewhere to go sledding.

I went to a place called Brave Island, which has the Wonderful Winter Wonderland theme going, at least for the season. I had the place to myself, although I keep odd hours and the place might be jammed during different parts of the day. Either way, I went to the top of the mountain and got ready for some downhill work. It took me a while to find the sledding part, but you are most likely less stupid than I and would probably fare better in a search.

Brave Island provides the sled for you, a simple one for a single sledder and a team bobsled (?) type for couples or very good friends. Once you sit on it, you start heading downhill. You get a good ride, not too fast. The ride could be a little longer, but you can extend it somewhat by sledding through the non-sledding parts of the sim. It's very impolite, but I was there by myself, and someone had to do it.

I would estimate that I got going 35 mph or so, which is like 70 kph for all you Europeans reading this. I never quite figured out how to stop, other than crashing into something that halted my forward progress. I used a head-first sledding methodology, as I'd rather crack my head than break both legs and maybe the ol' Five Hole as well.

Sledding into a wall is usually the worst-case scenario, but the other sledding sim that I tried out- one with a mammoth luge-style elevated track- actually saw me fail to negotiate a curve and sled off the sim into whatever passes for outer space in SL. I actually had a picture of me doing so, but I was very small in it and would have been unrecognizable without the caption.

I did think of a sport that I would like to try... Sled Bowling with humans! Line ten people up in Candlepin formation at the bottom of a hill, go to the top of the hill, come down heavy on the sled and see how many people you can deck. It's got speed, exotic settings, violence, humor and appeals to a wealthy demographic... what's not to like?

I'll have to get Lanai to pay me enough to hire ten models to act as bowling pins, but I think I can make a go of it. Some clever animator will have to make an animation that mimics pins falling. Who knows? Maybe I can give up journalism and feed myself by running a Human Sled Bowling operation. It might be illegal in the US. Someone told me to maybe try Indonesia.

There was no NBA or NFL 150 years ago, and now you can't turn on the TV without seeing someone dunking or throwing a touchdown pass. Who's to say Human Sled Bowling won't catch on in a similar manner?

The fun thing about SL is that Human Sled Bowling probably exists somewhere, perhaps in BDSM form. I just haven't been crafty enough to find it... yet.

Winter Things- Stacey Cardalines Reporting...

Most people hate winter, but I'm not one of them. I love snow, cold, and all that other stuff that turns people off from the Cruelest season. If I have firewood, drugs, and remaining vacation days, a blizzard is one of my favorite things. I may be twisted, but if the normal people can't throw snowballs at each other, eff 'em.

I like winter on SL even more, because SL isn't cold unless you open the window to your computer room in January. I went to a winter sim today, and- as you can see from the pictures- I had no problem at all casting aside my business dress, putting on a hockey shirt, and climbing snowy mountains with nothing but pantyhose on my legs and heels on my feet. That would equal frostbite in the real world, but in SL, it just meant that Stacey had less things to do in her inventory.

I set out to find a snowball fight sim today, but there aren't many of them, and the ones that exist have it somewhere that I couldn't locate. I gave up, but the sim I gave up on it at had ice skating, so I figured WTH?

The sim is called "Christmas Skate Rink And Holiday Market Christmas Shopping," which is the kind of name that made me think that the sim owner may be ESL. I checked, she isn't, and she appears to be a Vampire. That might seem odd, but Vampires are/were people too, and there's nothing in the Vampire manual which prohibits vampiric enjoyment of winter sports. If Dracula went to Alaska instead of London, I don't think Van Helsing would have beaten him. I went to the sim during sunlight hours, so I'm safe. It may turn into Salem's Lot after dark, I don't intend to find out.

This vampire had a skating rink, so I was all in. I'm a terrible skater in real life. This is embarrassing because I live in a hockey state, but it is what it is. I can only skate if there is a much larger person standing right next to me who might not fall with me if I lose my footing and panic-grab for his arm. You don't see figure skaters wearing hockey helmets, and if that sort of competence/confidence exists in a woman somewhere, the very balance of nature demands that there must also be a klutz woman walking the earth who screams in a panic a lot and falls before she gets on the ice. I fill that role in nature.

I was a hockey cheerleader, both on SL and in (real life) high school. It's easier on SL, where I could wear next to nothing, and where the hockey league carved out a large section of the arena for the cheerleaders to operate in. We were sort of our own show, somewhat akin to that old "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" joke, just with dancers. The only time I was on the ice was when I posed for the league calendar.

In high school, we were kept in the bleachers and reduced to stomp/clap-type cheers. We were mostly just trying to keep warm and not get hit by errant pucks. The girl right next to me got a puck to the nose once, and I'm still somewhat haunted by it. It did damage. She went from Prom Queen level to maybe a step above Sea Hag in one deflected slap shot. If you can imagine a blonde, rich-school 110-pound cheerleader with a Toucan Sam nose, that was the end result. I felt badly for her, but better her than me.

Either way, skating wasn't required of me as I performed these services. This is a good thing because the Traumatic Brain Injury that would have resulted from me pursuing skating never came about. Otherwise, this article might read "Cambot dongo at the banana patch" and- denied a career in journalism- I might have resorted to a life of crime. Fortunately, for all of us, it never came to that.

Becoming an expert skater on SL is as easy as jumping on a poseball. I started off in skates, but I got my skates at a sim where they assumed everyone was 6 foot 8, so they looked silly on me. I'm pretty short. Any game like SL that relies on the willing suspension of disbelief (I can teleport! I can carry 30,000 item inventories around with me!) will survive me skating in heels. I did have a hockey sweater on, so I score points there.

They have casual singles skating, pairs skating, and trick skating. You can bang out some pretty cool moves with even the simple menu. I didn't try the pairs menu, as I went to the sim by myself. I do my dirt by my lonesome. The pictures of me skating in this article are mostly from the Trick Skating menu. I didn't fall once.

They also have a little market there with some cute things. Some of it is Christmas-themed, but not so much that you think you went back in time a month. I was a big fan of the campfire with the warm-your-hands animation. You can kill some time at this sim, both touring and skating. It is one of the few vampire-owned skating rinks that I choose to recommend.

If winter comes and goes and you haven't gone skating, I can't even do business with you, dog.

SPOTLIGHT ON THE MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT- CONTE ALCHEMI

The exact origin of skiing is up for debate but the Sami people of Northern Scandinavia used them to effectively get from one point to another for travel and hunting on the cold harsh snowy landscape about 8,000 years ago. If this is true, skiing would be the oldest sport in existence besides spear chucking. Today it is not used for hunting or transportation unless you are into off-grid living in Alaska or Antarctica. With the invention of modern ski lifts, snow machines, and a nice slope on a mountainside, skiing has become a seasonal pastime for the young and old.

Many winter sports enthusiasts flock to ski resorts to experience the adrenaline rush of flying down a mountain doing fancy moves, and even going aerial!  Others prefer to take the less aggressive approach by going cross country, Nordic, or telemark skiing. In Second Life you don’t have to worry about breaking an ankle, leg, or a few ribs if you fall off a lift or slam a tree on the way down.

The Mountain Resort is a stunning mix of rustic and luxury for Second Life residents who don’t want to brave the harsh elements to have a good time. Guests can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding snow-covered valleys and foothills. Explorers can also hike on foot and take in the beautiful forest and the great outdoors. The SL Enquirer met up with Conte Alchemi to learn more about this perfect winter vacation spot on the grid.

Interview with Conte Alchemi

SLE:  Can you tell our readers a little bit about yourself and how you discovered Second Life?

Conte: I came to SL about 13 years ago. I love this world and the possibilities it gives to everyone to express their creativity. My mentor was a builder and introduced me to that. I loved to build but even more to terraform and landscape. I consider myself to be very lucky! In those years, I had the chance to get to know and to work with very talented people. It was an honor to be employed by some of the most influential and well-known estates in SL. I work as an estate manager in Sailors Cove South and Sailors Cove North Estates. I also work as a sim builder and landscaper for private clients. I thank all of them for always trusting in my work. About 10 years ago, I moved to Sailors Cove and met Fanci Beebe and Patrick Leavitt. They were the founders and the owners of Sailors Cove and Fisher Island Yacht Club. I felt very privileged, to say the least, to work with them. After a little while, I had the opportunity to create a new project with Patrick. We made what we call "The Rainforest" estate.

SLE: That’s what Second Life is all about, using your imagination to create. Now that the winter season is here, It is the perfect time for snow sports to begin.  What inspired you to create Mountain Ski Resort and what can visitors expect to experience?

Conte: During a chat with Patrick, we talked of the good times and pleasurable memories of the years spent in SL. We also spoke about an old estate that left a hole for many people in their Second Life for great places to go. It was called the Wolf Mountain Ski Resort. That estate was one of the very best places to go in Second Life.  It ran for many years before the owner had to close it. I also had the honor of building it and being a co-owner until the end. So, speaking about that, the thought occurred "why don't we do it again!"  Of course, it would not be an exact replica of the original one. I now use mesh and other things that were not available at that time. So, thanks to Patrick, who generously added 7 additional sims to the Sailors Cove Area and then created a new estate called Sailors Cove North. After that, we made the ski resort named "The Mountain." In a certain way, it's sort of a tribute to one of the best ski resorts ever seen in SL. I may be biased, but the current one is substantially more interesting. Plus, it offers a ton of amenities for our guests to enjoy. We have fine-tuned the on-mountain experience where our guests can expect breath-taking scenic views of snow-capped mountains and vistas. Gaze upon awe-inspiring frozen, icy lakes and streams. Watch as deers and other animals play upon the landscape.  Become fully immersed in their memory-making visit, which just leaves them saying WOW! They will hear the call of the trails beckoning them to hike. They will feel themselves turning into an adventurer detective to locate the hidden caves where they can find in the arctic-like ice a bar to relax in luxury. Perhaps our visitors have lost their way and find the tent spot just big enough for two to wait out the night in warmth and comfort. Maybe they will see that perfect rental that draws them into wanting to extend their visit. They can rezz a horse and ride the various freshly snowed trails and paths. Also, there are three ski lifts to the top of the mountain. They can also jump aboard a snowmobile and go to the peak where our always open Coffee Shop is warm and welcoming. There they can restore themselves with a favorite drink or a hot coffee after spending some time in the snow.

SLE: We do remember Wolf Mountain Ski Resort. It sounds like Patrick was a great mentor and friend having shared the idea of making this new and improved Ski Resort! Skiing can be intimidating. Are there different levels for beginners and experts?

Conte: Not really. Skiing is done at your own pace on The Mountain. There is a race system for those who are a little bit more competitive and wish to race themselves or against their friends.

SLE: What a relief for clumsy avies like me.  Learning how to navigate sports HUDS can be difficult too. Does The Mountain Ski Resort offer lessons with an instructor?

Conte: The skis we offer to our guests are placed in the rezzers around the resort. They do not require a hud to be used, as they are just "wear & go." They offer a limited range of animations compared to those driven by a hud but are so much easier to use. That's why "casual skiers" prefer them;  "pro skiers'' want to use their own skis with huds for racing and acrobatic tricks. Currently, we are not providing lessons with an instructor. In the future, we hope to enlarge our staff. Maybe that will include a ski instructor too!

SLE: Rezzers are even better! After hitting the slopes, it's nice to unwind in the lounge by a nice warm fireplace and just relax. What other amenities does the resort offer guests?

Conte: Located in the main lodge, on the upstairs level, is a state-of-the-art fitness center, yoga mats, and a tanning bed. On the main floor, we have a small spa area where you can sit or take a dip in the Meditation Garden Pool, use the sauna, massage table, and shower. Also located on the main floor, you will find cozy, casual dining, a meet-up piano lounge, game and movie rooms. A hidden surprise is our music venue. Also, on the upstairs level, you will find the Moosehead Bar and S'mores Outdoor Deck. You can also sail, kayak, and take a scenic balloon tour. If you want to take a moment to reflect or plan an intimate wedding, there is a small chapel settled like a beautiful jewel in our forest.

SLE: Wow there are a lot of things to do here! Besides Skiing, hitting the spa, having dinner, or getting married, what other winter sports can visitors experience at your resort?

Conte: Our guests can partake in a plethora of winter outdoor activities offered year-round. They can enjoy snowboarding, snowmobiling, ice skating, hiking, and sledding. We hope to add fishing for the Lake Area of the estate and a winter horse trail.

SLE: The winter horse trail sounds like a fun date! We will have to come back and check that out.  Are you currently hiring staff? If so, what are you looking for to help enhance the skiing experience in SL?

Conte: The Mountain staff includes two estate managers, Joy Canadeo and myself. Our focus is on building and helping our guests. For this reason, at this time, we are currently evaluating hiring staff. Primarily we are a Resort Rental with many amenities for our guests to enjoy or participate in. Our intent is to give our guests the very best possible experience at The Mountain. With that in mind, we are looking for an event manager.

SLE: Do you host Ski tournaments? If so, do you have a calendar of events and instructions on how guests can join?

Conte: The Mountain is still under a bit of design construction. We are about 98% complete. We have hosted a snowboarding tournament. We hope to host more tournaments and contests in the near future. We haven't had our grand opening as of yet. The calendar of events is one of the items that is a work in progress. When it is completed we will post around the estate and within our group, with instructions on how to join in on the fun.

SLE: We look forward to the event announcements. Do you have rentals for those who want to live on the resort?

Conte: All rentals are available for guests, for however short or long they wish to stay. Our cabins for rent cover a wide range of styles and they are available furnished or unfurnished.

SLE: Thank you for giving us a tour of this beautifully designed resort. We wish you much success. Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Conte: Unlike other Winter Resort Sims, The Mountain attracts summer visitors, too, making it a great year-round destination. We have a part of the resort that is seasonal. The Mountain is always in winter, whereas the Lake Region experiences all 4 seasons. We also have 2 other themed rental estates that are Rainforest and Tropical in nature. They will come as visitors and wish to stay as renters. I invite your readers to visit and explore The Mountain or any of our properties.

Thank you, Lanai, for the opportunity to share my passion with your readers!

Spotlight on ll ƜIƝƬƐɌ ll (11winter11)- An acoustic rock star with a voice that melts snow - Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Winter, unlike the season, brings warmth, passion, and a vibrant personality full of humor to SL's live music environment.  He performs professionally in Real Life in countries all over Europe; Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus, Serbia, and Hungary.

This powerful songwriter/performer performs a high energy, rock, blues rock and classic rock guitar show covering tunes from Elvis and the Beetles to Bon Jovi, White Snake, Aerosmith, Gun and Roses all the way to Metallica!

A home atmosphere filled with music encouraged him to begin playing the piano at seven and then he picked up the acoustic and electric guitar at the age of twelve. He had his first professional concert in 1998 and since then has performed for audiences as large as 15-20 K!
As a songwriter/performer he says, "The emotion is what the song and the story behind it is what represents me and to those that listen."

With Winter, you can be sure that you will only get a real live performance. There is no pre-recorded playback. You get all the little variances of his "in the moment" showing, as he radiates out to each of you that request his interpretation, the finest music in SL.  Yes, my friend, WINTER IS HERE!

Interview with Winter

Lanai: Hi Winter, It is a pleasure getting the opportunity to chat with you. I’ve been hearing your name around the grid. You seem to be creating a buzz. Where are you from and what is your history with music?

Winter: Hello Lanai! nice to meet you, and thank you for your kind words! I am from Cyprus. My History with music started when I was 6 years old, as I began learning the piano, at 15 I picked my first Guitar and created my first Band. I Have been doing that ever since! :)

Lanai:  What does music mean to you and which person or people inspired you the most?

Winter: Music is my life. It keeps me sane... the first bands that inspired me the most, were bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Manowar and Megadeth.

Lanai: How did you discover Second Life and what were your first thoughts?

Winter: I first Entered Second Life in 2011 where I was in for only 6 months, on another Account. I deleted that account and after a 7 Year absence, I came back 2 years ago on Halloween :)

Lanai: Who helped you get started in your SL music career?

WInter: Dj Flames, Arisha, helped me get started and explained the basics. I used to sit around campfires and play songs for friends on voice. I really didn't know there was a live scene.

Lanai: Now that you have been performing in SL for the past 2 years, do you consider SL a game or an extension of your real life?

Winter: I consider SL a little bit of Everything! And a part of my RL! :)

Lanai: Every artist has something uniquely different from the other. How would you describe your style and genre?

Winter: My style and genre is Rock and Hard Rock, with a little Blues inside sometimes played with an acoustic Guitar. there are no effects (other than a little reverb), no playbacks, no Loopers or anything like that. I try to change a lot of songs to fit my style and way of playing. A lot of people call it 'Winterify' :))))

Lanai: What Genres of music do you personally listen to and which ones do you like to perform?

Winter: My Main Love is Heavy Metal and Classic Rock. I love to also listen to more toned down rock and Blues stuff. To me the most important part is Catchyness and Melody. This is also the style that I play in SL.

Lanai: What fulfillment do you get performing in Second Life compared to performing in front of a live audience?
Winter: It is VERY different. The coolest part of it, is that you get to play in front of People from ALL over the world at the same time. People who might not have ever heard you in RL. Another Cool thing is the friends that you make throughout the journey!
Lanai: Do you also perform in real life? With the pandemic how has that impacted you?
Winter: Yes I do perform in RL. I am the singer in Rock/Metal Band . Our 6th Album was just released 2 months ago and we have not been able to tour it or even get to perform some of the songs. I can't wait to perform for people again. The Buzz you get from the crowd and the reactions, when you see someone is VERY different, and emotions run high.
Lanai: You are a very talented artist. It shows in the crowds you draw in SL. What advice would you give others who want to perform and find success in SL?
Winter: My BIGGEST advice is Stay grounded and true to yourself and the people who come to watch you. Don't try to ride the high horse cause people are not stupid. Stay Humble and appreciative.
Lanai: What is your availability and how can venues book you for a performance?
Winter: Unfortunately the time zones are sometimes a disadvantage. I am on European Time. I can play anywhere between 9AM and 3PM SLT

Lanai: Is there anything else you would like to share with our reader?

Winter: I just want to say a BIG thank you to ALL the people who support me. I really appreciate them and all the fun and memories we create every day! Cheers and thank you!

Thank you Lanai for this interview.

GiZzA Creations Knows what is Hot for Winter– Camury Reporting

Get ready for the coldest month of the season with a sporty and cozy looks.  Winter is here and  SL designers worked hard for this season’s collections. Gizza Creations is one such fashion destination that has filled plenty of wardrobes for years. So, let’s get to shopping!

Those who love and follow the trends of fashion consider winter the most glamorous of the year. It is during this time of the year that coats, beanies, gloves and boots come out of the inventory to accessorize.

FURS
Just as in the Autumn, furs are going to dominant the look of winter. You will find this trend in full pieces, such as jackets and vests, as well as detailed fur shoes and handbags.

WE WANT GOLD
Silver and gold is one of the biggest trends this season. These metallics are perfect for  brightening up the sober looks of the season. Long coats, bodies, boots, skirts, etc. It definietly brinsg on the bling with the application of lurex and sequins.

COATS
Coats are a must to combat the cold.  It you don’t want all the padding and bulk, a nice knit sweater works too!  arrive at parties in the cropped and maxi models, showing that the classical trend of the season can also be refined. In addition to these items, dresses and knit skirts are also great choices for that warm and cozy look.

STRIPES AND PLAID
Other trends that are popular this season are stripes and plaid. Those patterns will continue to be featured in winter.  If you like this style. You will find skirts, blouses, pants and dresses to add to your wardrobe.

BLACK CLASSIC OR GOTHIC CHIC
The total black look can be sleek, sexy and worn in many occassions.  Accessories give all black that extra kick needed to create your own personal goth or classic look.
Take your gothic outfits out of the closet and use and abuse of the black color. Black is the main color in this trend!

LINGERIE
It is very common for  avatars to be spotted with underwear showing. For example,  in the bars, clubs and adult hangouts where clothing is optional.  Believe it or not, lingerie is trendy any time of year. We're going to see sensual laces and bras made to be displayed. From the vintage and classic to the contemporary- Silk, satin , lace and velvet in pajamas, robes, tops and kimonos. A nice pair of heels for the ladies or some body art for the men, really add to the sexiness.

PUT A SCARF ON IT
This season just like every year, scarves are an essential accessory. Enjoy this little charm to brighten your winter look. Just make sure it works with the rest of your winter ensamble.

BET ON THE HATS
Hats are a trend in the winter fashion and they are part of the favorite accessories of several men and women. It can be a tricky accessory for woman when using hairstyle that seem to poke through the seems.  What better excuse is there to shop for hair that works with a hat!

Winter Fashion Finds- Tea Couturier Reporting...

If you didn’t notice the Duchess of Cambridge wore lovely jackets to be warm and yet stylish for the NY winter, so I thought it would be only fitting to add a few coats to my winter find. As we go deeper in winter it is that time where we have to make sure we not only look fashionable but we keep warm as well.

Addams // Wool Coat for women with Sweater and Hoodie FREE // FATPACK

I prefer fat packs to buying singular garments. This is cost effective and gives you variety. This is a perfect pack with a lovely woollen coat, a sweater and hoodie which enables you to keep warm and look trendy.
Now you can get the version FAT PACK containing:
• 1 HUD CONTROLLER
• 2 Version Wool coat
• 1 Hoodie for Coat
• 1 Sweater w/shirt For Coat
• 10 Color Wool Coat
• 5 Color hoodie
• 8 Color Sweater
• 18 color Shirt
 This fat pack costs:765L

Bowtique - Military Pea Coat (with HUD)

This is a perfect smart coat for those cold winter days when you want to look smart and warm. It is a mesh pea coat in 5 standard sizes, with HUD; 20 fabric options, 4 button colors to choose from. It costs only 149L so is definitely a bargain.

::DANITY:: Mesh Gia Jacket w/ Texture hud

This Gia jacket w/Sweater comes with texture hud!  The sweater and  jacket comes in various colors and works well with jeans and boots in the casual look.  If you wish to dress it up a bit pants with pump shoes work well also. This costs 425L

*MIRUS* WINTER Complete Outfit with HUD

G I O M E N - Duster Coat FAT PACK

This is a perfect men’s winter coat which works well worn casual with jeans and a sweater. This is a fat pack and includes:
5 different sizes (XL, L, M, S, XS)
What is included with your purchase is:
- The Duster Coat (All 4 colors) in 5 different sizes.
- The alpha layer
GioMEN Duster Coats are `rigged` so they will move along with your body's natural movement, will follow your avatar movement (to a certain extent) because they are "attached" to your avatar skeleton, they will bend with your avatar joints and stretch with height. You can modify them (only texture will work) after having dropped them to the ground or with open EDIT window, NOT while wearing them. You cannot reposition or resize the object. It will fit the way it fits no matter what. Modifying their size will have no effect on the worn rigged meshes, while worn they'll "revert" back to their original size.
Price for this coat is 340L

G I O M E N - Woolen Cardigan [HUD]

Again from the GIOMEN collection I found this woollen cardigan which comes in 8 different colored Cardigans, with different colored/texturized inside shirts and 8 different scarves to go along with your cardigans. The available colors for the Woolen Cardigans are BLACK, RED, GREY, YELLOW, WHITE, GREEN, LIGHT BLUE, PURPLE.  It is possible to wear the cardigans without the scarves. -Scarves are attachable. The HUD that is delivered with your purchase helps you change the cardigans, shirts and scarves. All parts are interchangeable so feel free to make your own combinations.
Priced at 380L a good price for a cardigan.
