Linden Lab confirms project name for new virtual experience platform
Wednesday, May 06, 2015

Project Sansar is the internal code name Linden Lab has been using for the new platform, and they plan to use the name externally in its early stages (like the invite-only alpha they begin this summer). However, this is just the project name, and LL anticipate changing it prior to launching the platform to everyone.

After the Mexican American War and the Reform
War, the Mexican Treasury was nearly bankrupt, Banito Juarez, the then Mexican President
issued a moratorium to suspend all foreign debts for two years. In response
Britain and Spain negotiated with Mexico and withdrew their naval forces.
However, France was then ruled by Napoleon III, saw it as an opportunity for a Second
Mexican Empire. In the late 1861, the well-equipped French fleet won at
Veracruz making the President retreat. Moving on to Mexico City, the strong
6000 French army was a defeated by 2000 ill-equipped Mexican army on May 5th,
1862 at Puebla.
Cinco de Mayo is a festival to celebrate the
victory of the “Premier army in the world”. It symbolizes the unity and pride
for the Mexicans to establish a much needed sense of national unity and Patriotism.
In Second Life, there are various events and

If You Could have anything in Second Life, What would It be?- Nena Dreadlow Reporting
That is the
question that I went around second life asking “If you could have anything on
Second Life What would it be? The answer will surprise you. For me when I hear
that question I think maybe bigger land or better skins, maybe even a new
outfit? But, surprisingly those are not the answers that I got; five residents
where nice enough to answer this question.
Nena Dreadlow: If you could have anything in sl what
would it be?
Muse Monigal- “We’ll I’ve been On Second Life since it began and am on
my second Character Now , and while support has improved for those who are us
joining our community in second life I would like to see more organizations
geared towards more hands on help for those that have arrived. We want our
community to grow.”
I would have to
agree with Muse. There does need to be more Help available for new people
arriving in second life. SL has grown so much that there is so much to learn
and without any kind of help in world, it’s hard to get around and to learn
what to do.
I asked the same question to Mspink Lips and
this is what she had to say:
Mspink Lips- “I would
like a easier way to make money Some
people don’t want to be a stripper or go through a lot of drama. Maybe you can
earn money by going through a loyal administration and not by just a random
person who you won’t know if it is a scam or not”
MsPink has just
started playing but luckily she has a
friend who has played a few years helping her. I remember when I first started playing sl
and I had no idea how to even get a job. If there is someone who could have
helped me like Mspink suggested, it would have been a lot easier
Next to answer
the question was Kat ( dawn nite) and she said, “ I would like a way sl can verify someone’s
real life age and gender. I want to go to someone’s profile and be able to tell
who I am talking to and not worry that I’m is talking to someone other than I think”
Kat has had
problems in the past with this as I’m sure a lot of people have. I never have thought
about this before but I think if there was a way to make sure you are talking
to who they say they are then it would be better then knowing right away then
finding out later. There is a term for people who aren’t who they say they are;
catfish.
While doing
this poll I went to a hair store and
talked to a few people there.
Harlon
Mongtomery says, “I think that the type of clubs are
limited on sl”.
Harlon wants to be able
to search for a club and the type of music and then go to that location and be
able to hear that type of music he likes and not go there and hear something
different”
I know that I’ve
run into that problem before where you go and look for a music genre and then
you get to that club and they are not playing the music as advertised. They should stick to what they said so
visitors can enjoy the music that you love.
Vivian Klees
was the last person I asked and she said “ She wants better
Region crossing Vehicles and avatar
crossing regions on the main land. This needs to be worked on and the current
physics engine needs to be upgraded for a better gaming experience”
All the SL
residents I polled gave great answers to think about. playing Second Life isn’t
just about the items people buy or what they have. SL is made up of so much more. Things that can be changed by just talking
about them is a chance that Second Life can be bigger and better than before. Don’t stop talking about what can make your SL
experience better and continue to explore and learn about new ways to better
improve your world.

Touring Historical Landmarks in SL- CeciliaRosalie Reporting…

I’ve been in Second Life for three
years and recently felt an impulse to
research second life’s historical regions.
In this article we are going to travel back in time to the first years of SL.
If I was asked to give a different tittle to this topic, It would be “A virtual
nostos”.
My main resource for this task
was the SL’s historical museum, which provided me with valuable information.
Second life opened its doors to the first residents in
2002-2003. It was named LindenWorld and
then it was renamed to Second Life. At this time the grid was made up
of 16 regions. Da boom, the first sim created. For most it holds a reference to
the Big Bang theory conception of the virtual world. Da boom is a nice water
front area with a lot to see and discover. I personally enjoyed the view of the
marina and Lindens Playground. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Da%20Boom/128/128/2
As I mentioned the first second
life resident, I was curious to see her first home. This lovely mansion was originally built by
Steller Sunshine way back during the Alpha (early, early testing) days of
Second Life.
All other builds created during
Alpha were deleted except for the Mansion and another build by Steller which
was a cabin, her first home; The mansion which resides in Clementina, was given
by Steller to the Linden's to preserve it for the cross over from Alpha to Beta
testing. The mansion was home to Steller through-out the Alpha testing phases,
and was the location for many of the first parties in Second Life and other
memorable events. With its beautiful view, great architecture, fantastic use of
prims, and friendly environment, this mansion still stands as one of the great
historical builds in Second Life. You can visit it here http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Clementina/189/122/62
The Ivory Tower of Primitives at
Natoma, is anoher historical locations. It is actually a library where you can
find out more about SL’s building system. Useful tutorials and building lessons
will give you a start if you are interested in building. Of course today we
build with mesh so prims seem a bit obsolete but primitives were the raw
material our virtual world was once built on so anyone who would like to start
learning the basics in creating stuff should start from there. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Natoma/204/166/28
Moving on my journey to SL’s
historical locations I stopped by Abbotts Airport, which is the oldest of its
kind and well-known of the high-quality planes and other aircrafts. It is a safe place for new comers to visit
after the welcome area. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Abbotts/96/212/27
My next stop was the first
freebie shop on the grid since 2004. YadNi s Junkyard is a paradise for
newbies, it offer a variety of high-quality stuff from clothes to weapons. They
also have a free learning area for new residents who want to make their first
steps. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Leda/214/25/53
I’ve been running around many
historical places until this final presentation. During my journey I always had
a feeling that something is missing… and then … It was there, A Castle. Blackmoor Castle’s construction
started in early September 04’ and is still on going. Research was performed on
various RL castles. Blackmoor draws some exterior influences from Cinderella's
Disney World Castle. So, Let the fairy tale journey begin!!! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Stillman/27/191/59
I hope you enjoyed your tour of
historical destinations in Second Life. Learning the history behind Second Life
and being able to go back in time and see how things once where gives us a
better perspective of how far we have come in the virtual world.

attention to Lupus and its impact on the lives of millions of individuals and
families.

the past 5 years, Sigma Upsilon Nu, SL Sorority has worked to raise awareness

bringing awareness and raising money, we are hosting a Month of Events for both

there after, some of the hottest DJs in SL have donated their time to this
cause from 6 pm -10 pm slt. On Sunday, May 24 will be our annual Lupus Fashion
Show in which we showcase some top as well as up and coming designers on the
grid. We will close out the month on May 30 with live performances from several
of SL’s finest performers.
In addition to the above mentioned
events, numerous designers have set up shop at the Lupus Awareness Fair. There
you will find some Lupus exclusives as well as some designs that they are known
for, proceeds will be donated to the cause. And we have not forgotten about you

Power Dressing for Ladies in Second Life - Lacy Muircastle reporting
Friday, May 01, 2015
Avaway, Bandit, lacy muircastle, Maitreya, Mimi Juneau, Mimi's Choice, second life, SF Design, SL Fashion, Swaffette Firefly
1 comment
I was browsing through my flickr when up popped a picture posted by none other that the doyenne of fashion herself Mimi Juneau of Mimi's Choice. The pic is of a stunning suit by Swaffette Firefly of SF Designs and is just one of her latest offerings. This prompted me to write this piece on power dressing for the ladies of SL.
I mean really, how could I not, You all should know just how hot you too could look ....
Power dressing need not leave
you looking like a 1980s throwback. There are plenty of ways to dress like a
powerful sexy modern woman without having to resort to shoulder pads and
ill-fitting suit sets. Power dressing is all about exuding confidence in the
clothes you’re in, looking sexy at the same time.
I mean really, how could I not, You all should know just how hot you too could look ....
Adding a blazer to your
outfit is one of the easiest tips for modern power dressing. A well fitted
blazer will instantly smarten up your outfit. For a corporate look team a
tailored blazer with cigarette pants and patent pumps. Right now the trend is
for matching suit sets which is lucky for us as it just screams power dressing. A classic tip for power
dressing is to wear well fitting, tailored clothing.
You don’t have to stick to fitted,
tailored clothes all the time. Another way to work some power dressing magic
into your wardrobe is with luxurious textures. Textures like silk and cashmere
are perfect for modern power dressing.
by Avaway |
When you’re choosing
jewellery for your outfit, keep it classy and elegant. You want pieces that are
stylish but not too trend-based or overpowering. Keep jewellery simple and avoid
anything too costume-y. Chunky man-style watches are a stylish option if you
want a bolder piece of jewellery that is still fairly classic.
Black and grey colours are
pretty standard for power dressing, but experiment with colour where you can.
Right now we’re seeing a lot of designers embracing boldly coloured matching
suit sets. If the occasion allows for it, try wearing a brightly coloured
outfit. Red, yellow, orange, blue – take your pick! Alternatively, try adding
some colour in the form of accessories like your shoes or a bag. Either way, a strong dose of colour will give
off powerful vibes.
by Maitreya |
Shoes can say a lot about a
person. When it comes to power dressing, a pair of heels is an instant
confidence booster. In most cases, you can’t go wrong with a basic black pair
of pumps. Choose ones in a patent finish with a more pointed toe for a bit of
extra oomph. If you’re in a more creative setting, experiment with different
shoe styles that best fit your personality.
When it comes to modern power dressing, you’ve got to wear
what you love. Being confident in your
looks is a major part of oozing confidence and power. It’s all about owning
your outfit and your look.

There are so many cultures in Second Life. Like so many virtual worlds, the power to create
is a strong part of the mix. It includes not only creating your avatar into
something fantasy based, but also RP (role play) for most situations. But
why exactly do subcultures exist? Is it the ability to be something
we cannot in RL? Perhaps it’s for the creation of it all. Or even to
relive something via your avatar, which could be the case in becoming a child
avatar or parent.
Being a vampire in SL myself, I can honestly
say it’s to be something that I have always loved the lore of. Stories, movies
and characters with abilities we do not have in
RL...immortality. Bloodlines is one of the top subcultures in Second
life. The Bloodlines web page shows us that approximately 133 thousand players
are registered within this role play system. For most involved in Bloodlines
it’s about family as well. The freedom to create a Vampire Clan, Lycan Horde,
or Human Guild, allows players to recruit friends and have different social
events within that group.
Mermaids...what lovely half human and half fish beings they
are. Who wouldn't want to immerse themselves into the fairytale of
being such a mystical creature? And moreover a creature with the talent to live
in the water or on land and yet be tied to a need for water leaves
vulnerability.
Furries come in many a form. Again another large subculture of
SL. Simply put animal characters with human personalities. Many a
club and hangout is devoted to furries of SL. Some exclusive, others welcome
any and all avies.
Fairies beautiful sometimes winged but usually human in appearance have
been in many a folktale and mythology. I personally have always loved
fairies. For me the draw to them was how they dress, their wings and
just the pure almost innocent look of a fairy.
Tinies...well who can resist cuteness? Am I right? One avatar all rolled
up into a very small package. Special made avies with the intent of being the smallest
avatars around. One would assume the allure to being a tiny is the size and
cuteness.
Finally Child Avies...love em or hate em they
too are an intrigal part of our SL world. Some relive the nostalgia
of childhood via their child avie, while some others also choose to be a child
vampire forever immortalized as a young soul, unable to die but forever within
the innocent naivety that is childhood. Cute clothes and a pint sized you...the
allure that is the beauty of all sweet and pure. While moderate and
adult sims have to have different rules per TOS on child avies there are many a
child avatar and many places where it is more than acceptable to be a lil
one. Some also with the popularity of SL pregnancy have chosen to be
the "child" of others within SL. Another outlet to gain
the bonds and closeness of family through role play.
Existence:
But the question here is
why do these subcultures exist? What draws people to them and why do
they have such a following? Thus far you have read my idea on why
they're here within SL. And now I'll ask one person of each subculture why that
subculture exists to them.
We'll start with Bloodlines which covers
Vampires/Lycan/Human cultures all into one:
Becca Drascol:
Why do you think the Bloodlines subculture exists in SL?
Noir8Sagato Resident: First time for rp but now it is for the
creator a money maker.
Becca Drascol: Why
does bloodlines exist for you personally?
Noir8Sagato Resident: Family and role-play.
Furries:
Becca Drascol: Why
does the furry subculture exist in SL (in your opinion?)
ZeBooty Resident: Well Furries have always existed. And SL allows
people to play as their
sonas fairly easily.
Becca Drascol: And why
does it exist for you personally? Anything that makes it special for you?
ZeBooty Resident: Why it exists... That's hard to say. And I
don't really know how to answer that.
For Mermaids, Fairies, and Tinies I got the
opinion of an SL resident who has been a lil bit of everything:
Becca Drascol: Why
does the mermaid culture exist in SL?
Aurora Yardley:
Mers...are for me truly free. They live in communities or solitary the groups
that gather are like everyone else in SL. They have homes ...dance clubs (the
dances are in 3 dimensions) and graceful.
Becca Drascol: Why do
you feel the Fairy subculture exists?
Aurora Yardley: Ok ...there is a common link to fantasy
creatures Mers...Fae. Petites and tinies ...they all are personal expressions
of one's inner self and like human groups they like to gather and share ideas
avie adaption tips. An endless list they are open to each other and
to the human public.
Aurora Yardley: The sims they all gather in generally are
tailored to their needs. Mermaids and mermen go where there is water anywhere
and mix with the normal humans over the entire scope of SL... Fairy
folk mix in well with fantasy sims very well, they can be
very cute, or devilishly naughty playing pranks. Again like with any
living thing they are unique and no two are alike.
Becca Drascol: Oh I'm
sure there is a lot of creativity to each and for each person.
Aurora Yardley: For each genre it is an endless scope of
variation. I collect skins and adapt them to roles I take on.
Finally we come to child avies:
Becca Drascol: Why
does the child av subculture exist in SL?
BabyGirlVivi Resident: It is a way of life in which they choose to
relive something they didn't get to live in real life, sometimes reliving what
they couldn't in real life gives them closure and helps them battle through
things easier in life reliving it in SL by being more of what they would've
liked to live out more like than they may have RL.
Becca Drascol: Some
people choose to adopt the role of being another avatars child in SL. Is this
something you would do or have done?
BabyGirlVivi Resident: Yes I would love to do that. I have longed to
find a family that would love to take in an avatar like mine. It isn't easy to
come by, some may freak about it others really enjoy seeing avatars like
myself. Another avatar that enjoys a child avatar understands the reasoning for
us the way we are and are a great help to us if they take us in. The connection
of being another avatar's child in SL is again reliving what we maybe didn't
get to in RL, finally with another avatar's help we can feel at home, loved,
cared about, and nourished with open arms and heart of the chosen avatar that
wants the role of a child avatar in their SL lives. And at same time we can
make fantasy for those that choose to do so, that they struggle to have RL.
To Sum it up:
Rather for fantasy or
creativity we create the avatar we feel comfortable in and then we seek a place
to belong and we find that place among some form of SL subculture. Be you Vamp,
Lycan, Human, Furry, Mermaid, Tiny or Fairy, we all have found our place for
our own reasons and our own escape into the world which we call our second
lives.
