Ocean Pointe Puts Family Time First- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

There are a variety of communities in Second Life that focus on different activities for family role play. Ocean Pointe is one of them. Established in June of 2012, it is open to any family looking to be part of a welcoming community. There are 8 sims in total with over 50 things to do. Owned and operated by JA Handsome and Cinn Hansome (Aine Highfield) together they have created a charming and peaceful town environment right in the heartland of Canada.  Some of the many features include a friendly town atmosphere with parks, picnic areas and playgrounds. Amenities include a shopping center with familiar names like Tim Horton’s, Peter Cottontail Bargains, Jazzy Footwear, Lickety Splits Ice cream Parlor, Yoga studio and the Hansome Medical Center which provides healthcare to ailing residents as well maternity care for expectant parents .

The SL Enquirer sat down with JA and Cinn Hansome to learn more about Ocean Pointe.

Welcome Center

Interview with JA & Cinn Handsome

SLE: Hi JA & Cinn, where are you both from and what brought you together in Second Life?

JA: I’m from Toronto Canada, and Cinn is from south of Boston Mass. We met at Sweethearts Ballroom late one night and found an instant attraction. We talked the night away and only after I left realized we didn't even dance. We saw each other the next day and haven't missed a day since.

SLE: What was your inspiration behind Ocean Pointe?

JA: Well that’s not a simple answer, really, there are three main factors. Before we built Ocean Pointe we had opened our maternity Clinic on a different sim. We strived for realism not only with the information and services but with our builds and attention to details. Our clients kept asking if we had houses because they loved how the clinic looked, so we thought we should try and build a little town. When we started planning it, we agreed to make it Canadian because I had searched all over SL for Canadian content and had found little. The third factor is that Ocean Pointe is not for money but a labor of love by both Cinn and I. One of our residents described it beautifully as our love song to each other.
Cinn: This was something I wanted to do for Jay. I’m on Ocean Pointe everyday to make sure it runs as smooth as possible because I know it is important to him.

SLE: Can you tell me what SL family means to you?

JA and Cinn:
Cinn: People always ask me what the secret to the long lasting, loving relationship that Jay and I have... my answer is simple... there is no 50/50 in a good relationship- its 100/100.  As long as both of you are on the same page- understand what your partner needs and wants... your relationship will thrive
JA: As long as you both have the same goal, the goal you are working towards is a happy healthy relationship... all your decisions are based on what is good for you as a couple. If we are on different sides of an issue, we figure out which is the best path for us as a couple and no one loses.

SLE: How many families call Ocean Pointe home?

Cinn: About 65 right now.

SLE: Who should families contact if they are looking to rent a home at Ocean Pointe?

JA: Cinn or I. We don’t have managers because we want to know everyone and make sure they get the attention they deserve.

SLE: What type of events do you have for families and how often?

Cinn: We have daily events; we have school, and play dates. We have dances that are family friendly. We have bowling night, greedy or game night and are always open to impromptu events. We have an events meeting every week as well and all residents are welcomed to come.

SLE: You have your own premiere radio station, can you tell us more about it?

Cinn: WOPR Radio is Dekadence Radio Network and is owned by Mysti Drake-Vilotta and Izzy. It’s Internet wide stations that has streamed music as well as live DJs. They have events at the station every week.

SLE: What has been the most rewarding and challenging things you have faced operating such a large family based community?

Cinn: The most rewarding thing, I’d say, is the friends we have made. Some caring and loving people have come into our lives through OP. And for me, working with JA everyday has brought us closer together.
JA: nods in agreement. I see how Cinn works, what kind of person she is, how caring and loving and drive to make sure things are right.
Cinn: As for challenges, balancing growth against personal attention. If you don't grow, you go backward, but with each sim we get, time becomes more of a challenge.
JA: Yes for sure. Cinn and I spend most of the time doing things around OP and rarely have time together anymore. We love doing what we do and wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves if OP suddenly vanished, but long gone are the days of dancing all night long at a ballroom.

SLE: What are your hopes for the New Year?

JA: On a personal level we want our relationship to grow. As for Ocean Pointe, it will grow too. We have plans for more sims. We don’t rush into any expansion; we grow only when it’s right so that OP remains stable, we want it to be here for a long time.

SLE: Do you have anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Cinn: Just a personal philosophy I’d like to share, if I may, at the end of the day, no matter what your avi is, no matter what your role play is, the person behind the monitor is a real person with real feelings and real thoughts and real needs. Therefore, it is very important to treat everyone with dignity and respect.
JA: I agree, it has been one of the guiding principles to how we serve Ocean Pointe residents.

Now it is time for you to see for yourself what makes Ocean Pointe one of the best family communities on the grid.

What Are Your New Year's Resolutions? Bimala Tagore reporting

Did you know New Year Celebrations started in pre- Christian times and was observed by the Babylonians in March?  The Romans are responsible for changing the celebrations to January and beginning the tradition of New Year resolutions. Another interesting fact is that January is derived from the name Janus; a two-faced pagan god who was the protector of gates. One face looks backwards at the old year and the other face looks forward into the New Year.

Image from Quacked.com

We still practice this tradition today as the end of a year approaches and the beginning of a new one begins. It is a good time to evaluate your life situations; both the good and the bad. It is time to say goodbye to the past and look forward into the future.
So many memories are created and awareness grows with time. Many people are touched, loved and cared about. December is the last month of the year to remind ourselves of the need to affirm, begin again, find meaning and purpose as well as demonstrate our true selves with trust and confidence.
What are your New Year's Resolutions? What are you going to do or change in your first and second life? That is the crucial question to be posed here. All of these resolutions are laden with consequences and concern the meaning of life itself.
Some of our friends have already expressed their purposes and they will make present to our readers their projects and goals for this coming year.
Let me introduce you to Teer Latzo. He is a writer of elegant and fluid language. On the road, he looks at profound attitude of his writing and his goals reflect on how far he has come and where he hopes to go next.

Teer Latzo: “2015 is a big year for me. One of the goals I have set years ago will finally come to fruition. My resolution for this is to make the experience as good as possible. I will also continue to write and add to my blog and continue to reach out to other writers and artist, giving mutual positive support. As a writer/artist I see the need for support reaching desperation: I have never seen so many artist and writers so self-absorbed and looking down on those working hard at the very same thing. There is only competition if your work is the same as everyone else’s. My resolution is to continue to show support and talk about ideas and concepts with others. I would also like to utilize SL and offer some of my new works to publication and or use throughout as part of the writing community. This includes any interested parties in the SL writers community such as the SL Enquirer and etc,.. I wish everyone a fantastic New Year, full of fresh ideas and goals”.

Kathryn Audurburgh is like a beautiful flower, full of color.  Her love for blossoms and books was complemented with her interest on poetry. She is a distinguished poet. She won the first prize of “Tagore Poetry Competition in Second Life 2013”

Kathryn Audurburgh : “My New year’s resolution for 2015 would be to build again. I haven't built anything in 2 years so my flower shop has no new products. I bought a lot of building materials before but i lack the inspiration to make anything. Maybe a change of season would do the.  I should do that more often. And I have been planning on documenting some of my sl adventures or make a blog about sl. This might help others trick. I also would like to hear Live Concerts in Second Life. I have only been in three”.

Scarlette Dubrovna is a passionate woman who sings about love, who touches different genres that deal with deep emotions.   The connection with her audience gave her a sense of mission that reflects her feelings.

Scarlette Dubrovna: “I plan on being my own woman, with my own ideas and voice them all the time. I am the one who sets the limits and goals. In this sense, I work towards my own philosophies and passions. My second resolution for coming year it is to start singing more in venues. I really like singing and that is why I feel that music can help me express myself. Finally, to tell the people in my Second Life that I love them and care for them as you never know when it’s the last”.

Miha Shamen captivated his audience with his unequaled and powerful voice it includes many genres and different styles, which made up Miha´s repertoire preserving this singer´s unique voice.

Miha Shamen: “I Love My Family. I Love to Entertain and Sing My Music, but most of all, I treat every day as if it was my last, & I treat others how I Like to be treated. Every day is a new day at my age i dont look to the future i look at the present and remember my past. Happiness is not acquired through living for the moment, but through surrendering to a meaningful goal”.

Lyle Lindman and Sedona Bluemood are a charming couple with special training in helping people to learn, grown and solve problems.

Lyle: I need to disappoint you a bit. In general I don't make any resolutions for a new year. Of course I have ideals to which I strive. But I try to evaluate and ponder life whenever I have a few moments in a peaceful surrounding.  Growth is maybe something that happens step by step. And sometimes a long walk in nature can be the right time and place.
Sedona:  My resolutions in SL are related to “Soul Food Lounge”. It is a place where we have a great time with wonderful people and reading selections that help you in the situation that you are in. These lectures are very important. As a matter of fact, as we need physical food in order to live, we also need spiritual food in order to nourish our spiritual grown.

At this time write down your list of resolutions. This list should be in order of importance from the highest resolution to the lowest.  Start the New Year with goals and try to accomplish them. This will help you get a new start on your journey through life.

We wish you much luck and success for 2015 and beyond.

Note from Lanai Jarrico

As we begin a new year and look back at the past, we should remember that each and every experience we have had, shapes who we are and what we will become in the future. People enter our lives at different times in our journey with a purpose to remind us that our differences teach us and helps  make us all unique. We should take the good with the bad and learn from it. Forgive the negatives, it helps us move forward while the positives add substance to our lives. Take a moment to reflect on the past year and then store it in your box of memories, file it away to make room for new memories. Together we all move forward as time waits for no one. Remember this and step forward into 2015. I look forward to what news it will bring.

May you all have a safe and happy new year.

New To Second Life? - LadyLoveDr reporting

It's a big world out there!  Especially, for newcomers that are just setting foot on their first adventure in Second Life.  A place so big can really be overwhelming when you’re starting out.  I have spent the last week scavenging the SL world for some awesome and helpful places that would benefit all the new players joining us.  One place I ended up was down right scary!  It's that "wrong turn, oh no, do I have cell reception" kind of panic you feel when a stranger asks if you'll be a good submissive little girl.  Luckily all of our Second Lives come with a 911 panic button in the form of CTRL + Shift+ H.  After the horrible experience I did manage to land in some pretty interesting and helpful places.  Listed below are the ones I thought newcomers would benefit from the most.  They are in no particular order.

Help Island was kind of small when I landed there but I quickly learned that big things come in small packages.  They have money chairs which are a fantastic way for newcomers to earn some Lindens!  Two of the chairs are high value but they are only available to avatars who are less than 30 days old.  The island has a ton of free items to offer inside their shop.  Not only do they have loads of stuff for women but they also have a whole top floor dedicated to men shoppers.  As a bonus, if whatever you grab in the shop happens to need unpacking, right outside is a rez (sandbox) area.

New Citizens Incorporated (NCI) is a huge place to visit with lots to offer everybody!  They host numerous classes and events like Show N Tell, Photography, Making Money, and Q&A’s.
There's something for everyone to learn on this sim.  They cover lots of need to knows, like building things, looking good, cool places to visit, sl etiquette, land information, textures, scripting, and even a bit of SL history.  They also host a free photo booth so you can take your first photo for your SL profile.  They offer lots of extras also like sandbox areas, freebies, and a very helpful group.

Virtual Ability -  This is a great spot for any new player but it focuses mainly on those with disabilities.  The landing point starts with the most basic tutorial of how to navigate your avatar through SL.  From there it will lead you on a path full of knowledgeable information from tips and keyboard shortcuts to assistive devices such as voice recognition and adaptive keyboards.

Noobia - This is a fantastic place to relax for free!  They give brand new avatars free apartment rentals as long as the person is less than 30 days old!  They also provide their own version of classes including but not limited to hosting, gestures, land ownership, building, de-scripting, and groups.  There are some small shops and areas noobies can hang out and get to know each other.

We were all newbies at the beginning of our Second Life journey. It can be hard trying to figure out what to do and where to go.
One of the best things you can do for a newcomer is welcome them with a kind gesture and share some positive advice.

On behalf of The SL Enquirer, welcome to Second Life.

SL Newser: Man of the Year: Ebbe Linden / Ebbe Altberg

As much as the residents don't like to admit it at times, without Linden Lab, there would be no Second Life. And it's most visible member, if not always it's most important, is the CEO. And this year, Ebbe Linden was appointed as Linden Lab's fourth CEO.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us in the Scottish Highlands in Second Life.

This week brings 2014 to a close and we finish the year with our Traditional Hogmany Party.  This will run from 10am to  very very late to try to cover as many New Years as possible.

All are very welcome to join us and we promise you a Guid New Year to all with drinks on the house, great music to dance to and some wonderful friends, old and new, to spend this fantastic evening with.

Winter Fashion Finds- Tea Couturier Reporting...

If you didn’t notice the Duchess of Cambridge wore lovely jackets to be warm and yet stylish for the NY winter, so I thought it would be only fitting to add a few coats to my winter find. As we go deeper in winter it is that time where we have to make sure we not only look fashionable but we keep warm as well.

Addams // Wool Coat for women with Sweater and Hoodie FREE // FATPACK

I prefer fat packs to buying singular garments. This is cost effective and gives you variety. This is a perfect pack with a lovely woollen coat, a sweater and hoodie which enables you to keep warm and look trendy.
Now you can get the version FAT PACK containing:
• 1 HUD CONTROLLER
• 2 Version Wool coat
• 1 Hoodie for Coat
• 1 Sweater w/shirt For Coat
• 10 Color Wool Coat
• 5 Color hoodie
• 8 Color Sweater
• 18 color Shirt
 This fat pack costs:765L

Bowtique - Military Pea Coat (with HUD)

This is a perfect smart coat for those cold winter days when you want to look smart and warm. It is a mesh pea coat in 5 standard sizes, with HUD; 20 fabric options, 4 button colors to choose from. It costs only 149L so is definitely a bargain.

::DANITY:: Mesh Gia Jacket w/ Texture hud

This Gia jacket w/Sweater comes with texture hud!  The sweater and  jacket comes in various colors and works well with jeans and boots in the casual look.  If you wish to dress it up a bit pants with pump shoes work well also. This costs 425L

*MIRUS* WINTER Complete Outfit with HUD

This is one of my favourite outfits for winter. It also comes in lots of various colors so this is perfect.
The Complete Outfit:
1 fitted mesh dress and 5 sizes rigged mesh dress xxs to xl
2. Mesh scarf
3. Mesh winter hat
4. SLINK high heels w warmers in 3 sizes
5. Alpha for dress

G I O M E N - Duster Coat FAT PACK

This is a perfect men’s winter coat which works well worn casual with jeans and a sweater. This is a fat pack and includes:
5 different sizes (XL, L, M, S, XS)
What is included with your purchase is:
- The Duster Coat (All 4 colors) in 5 different sizes.
- The alpha layer
GioMEN Duster Coats are `rigged` so they will move along with your body's natural movement, will follow your avatar movement (to a certain extent) because they are "attached" to your avatar skeleton, they will bend with your avatar joints and stretch with height. You can modify them (only texture will work) after having dropped them to the ground or with open EDIT window, NOT while wearing them. You cannot reposition or resize the object. It will fit the way it fits no matter what. Modifying their size will have no effect on the worn rigged meshes, while worn they'll "revert" back to their original size.
Price for this coat is 340L

G I O M E N - Woolen Cardigan [HUD]

Again from the GIOMEN collection I found this woollen cardigan which comes in 8 different colored Cardigans, with different colored/texturized inside shirts and 8 different scarves to go along with your cardigans. The available colors for the Woolen Cardigans are BLACK, RED, GREY, YELLOW, WHITE, GREEN, LIGHT BLUE, PURPLE.  It is possible to wear the cardigans without the scarves. -Scarves are attachable. The HUD that is delivered with your purchase helps you change the cardigans, shirts and scarves. All parts are interchangeable so feel free to make your own combinations.
Priced at 380L a good price for a cardigan.

Happy Winter Shopping!

Merry Christmas from SLE & Fans 2014

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Christmas is one of my most favorite holidays next to Valentine's Day. The showing of love from both these holidays gives me a sense of how much people in both Second Life and in the real world show they care about others. The week before Christmas is when I receive a shower of gifts and cards from friends and fans of The SL Enquirer. I'd like to share some of them with you all.

It is great to see the creativity, time and effort put into each card and the thoughtfulness of my friends. It really brings out the Christmas Spirit.

May you all be surrounded by peace and love this Holiday Season and you ring in the new year safely.
