Introducing Discount Roulette- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Everyone loves a great deal when they are out and about shopping in Second Life. With the countless malls and stores across the grid it can become overwhelming trying to look for items that are both quality and match your shopping budget. Here is an interesting solution to your shopping dilemma, how about playing a little bit of Discount Roulette? It is the newest most exciting way for merchants to show off their newest products.

It works in two ways. For merchants, it allows them to put products in the machine and set the price. When customers pay the set price, they will receive a random discount anywhere from 10%, 20% or even 100% off! You may think nothing is free but why not take the chance and have some fun.

To learn more about this unique product, we sat down with creator Julya Lykin to talk more about it.

Interview with Julya Lykin

Lanai: Hi Julya, can you tell me a little bit about Shame Me Designs and what your brand has to offer Second Life residents?

Julya:  Shame Me Designs started off as a shape shop.  It had progressed into other things, dabbling in applier friendly clothing, and now Discount Roulette.  Thus far, Shame Me Designs has also been the home of the hunt Dare2Bare (next one is January 15th – February 15th).

Lanai:  You have an interesting product:  Discount Roulette.  What made you come up with the idea?

Julya:  I’ve always had a passion for marketing.  Being a designer myself, I know the price it takes to put out a freebie.  Designing anything takes time, and time is money.  This way the designers will be able to make their cost back from making the item, and give the customers an exciting reason to come frequently, to see what’s new.  It’s a true win, win!

Lanai:  The features for Discount Roulette seem simple. Can you explain how merchants can add items and set a price? Also, how many items can be put into this machine?

Julya:  Setting up the machine is quite simple.  Edit the machine, and put your price in the “Description” box.  Then click over to the “Contents” Tab, take out the “gift box,” and put your item inside.  While you’re in the “Contents” Tab, double click on the script and simply click the reset button, close everything up and your ready to rock.  One item per machine.

Lanai: Can merchants have multiple Discount Roulette Machines?
Julya:  Yes, the machine is sold as copy, no transfer.  You can set up as many as you like.  As other versions come out, there will be free updates.

Lanai: Do you have to join a group in order to receive discounts?
Julya:  No.  Anyone can play.  It is set up to be completely random.

Lanai: Where can merchants purchase this system?

Julya:  There are two different ways you can purchase the machine.  In-world you can purchase it at Shame Me Designs.  There is a machine set out with an item inside.  Or if you prefer, you can also purchase it on Marketplace.  It is available at both locations for L$350.

Lanai: With products like Discount Roulette available to shoppers, I think it makes shopping a bit more fun. Will you be coming up with other ways to bring merchants and customers together?

Yes, there is a group made called Discount Roulette, in which customers can find all the newest locations and designers can inform customers of their new items.  Once a week there will be an updated list posted in notices of stores with slurls attached for your convenience.  The Discount Roulette blog is now up and running, where the list will be maintained.  Another feature will be designer items blogged.  We have a few more tricks up our sleeves for the future =).

Thanksgiving is Coming Soon! Here are some festive Holiday Hunts Happening Now in Second Life- Ceciliarosalie Reporting…

Thanksgiving day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the U.S and Canada as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of harvesting and of the preceding year. Although it is mostly referred as An American holiday there are several places around the globe which hold similar traditions and celebrations for the day. Thanksgiving day has its roots in religious and cultural  customs. Strange as it may seem there’s not a fixed date for this holiday and dates vary depending on the exact country separately.

Let’s have a closer look on these different dates

Canada: on the second Monday of October , U.S.: Thanksgiving, currently celebrated on the third Thursday of November, Norfolk Island: Thanksgiving is celebrated on the last Wednesday of November and in Germany is in early October, though German festival is influenced by Christian religion.

Most families follow traditions begun on the first Thanksgiving, but many have their own traditions that they follow each year. The best thing about Thanksgiving is spending time with family. Many people live far from their inmates and travel long distances by any means of transport to be with their loved ones. Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year!

Traditional foods are a large part of Thanksgiving celebrations. Many families include the entire family in the food preparation. Traditional foods include turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, cornbread, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. Many people serve pie for dessert at the end of the meal. Popular pie flavors are pumpkin, pecan, sweet potato, and apple.

Many generous folks use Thanksgiving as an opportunity to help the less fortunate. Some people volunteer to serve food at homeless shelters on Thanksgiving Day and others donate to shelters or participate in canned food drives.

The Wishbone Feature!!!

Some families include breaking the turkey's wishbone as part of their celebration. The wishbone is found attached to the breast meat in the turkey's chest. After the meat has been removed and the wishbone has had a chance to become dry and brittle, two people each take one end of the bone, make a wish, and pull. Whoever ends up with the larger part of the bone gets their wish!

But what happens in SL on Thanksgiving day?

Just like in RL avatar families are gathered feasting and celebrating Thanksgivings Day.
As for my dear shopping addicts…

Almost every shop operating on the grid announces sales and great deals on that special Day. There are also some great hunts which are worth mentioning.

Dirty Turkey 5.0
Jerky Turkey Hunt 4
Golden Thanksgiving
Gobble Gobble Hunt

Keep in mind that more parties and events always come up at the last minute. ;)

Best Wishes

Spotlight on Linda Lauren and her new book; Sentimental Journey- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

It is my pleasure to share such an accomplished woman with The SL Enquirer fans in this spotlight feature and someone I proudly call a dear friend.

Linda Lauren is a 4th generation psychic medium who owns and operates a metaphysical center in Mountainside, New Jersey. Her abilities have taken her on an interesting journey through life. Her professional career in intuitive zoning stems back to 1978 where she first began consulting law enforcement in murder investigations.  She has went on to help many find peace and healing throughout her career.
I have had the opportunity on several occasion to spend time with Linda Lauren and her assistant Susan Dolinko at her metaphysical center where I’ve experienced my first Reiki session, got a personal reading as well as two separate visits to see Max, one of the 13 ancient crystal skulls.  I have also gone to two of her book signings in New York City. All I can say is Linda is the real deal and one of those unique people that leave a lasting impression. Her presence radiances love, healing and peace and she also inspire me with her kindness and abundance of energy.
Today, Linda Lauren spends her time as a resident psychic on Sway in the Morning radio show on Sirius/XM, The Ron and Yaya in the Morning radio show in Reno, and making appearances on numerous media sources such as CNN, NBC, ABC-TV ,The New York Times, The Daily News and The Wall Street Journal just to name a few.
She also loves to blog, contributing color forecasts on The Huffington Post, The SL Enquirer, writing and meeting with clients at Linda Lauren’s Embracing the Universe in her native New Jersey,  as well as in the virtual realm here in Second Life.
If her répertoire isn’t impressive enough, Linda Lauren is an energy artist as well as author of several books including Medium Rare, Hostage in Time and her latest work, Sentimental Journey.
Without giving too more much away, I will let Linda share what inspired her as well as latest book and where you can get it.

Interview with Linda Lauren
Lanai: Linda as always it is such a pleasure to interview you about what is going on in your very busy and exciting life. You have really kept busy since the last book signing I went to for Medium Rare in New York City. How are you doing these days?

Linda: I'm doing well and enjoying both my real life and my Second Life. I have been doing a lot of writing, blogging and creating my daily Linda Lauren's Color Forecast™ to share with people to help them create their day.

Lanai: You have done so much in the 6 years I’ve known you. How do you manage everything and still stay sane and balanced?

Linda: Meditation is key for balance. I open and close my day with at least a half hour session.

Lanai: Let’s jump right in and discuss your new book; Sentimental Journey. It takes place in wartime, 1944 and is about a romance that seems to happen by fate. Can you give our readers a teaser about the story and the main characters Allison and Johnny?

Linda: I explain it like this: What if you had the cure for the common cold available to you whenever you needed it? What if that cure was in the form of a twenty-four-hour time-release capsule?  What if it not only cured your cold but also took you back in time by twenty-four years?
Now imagine your cold returns when you return, and you discover there is a forty-eight-hour time-release cold capsule in the experimental stages. Would you be desperate enough to take that capsule? What if in doing so it takes you forty-eight years into the past, making you a spirit in time and meeting the love of your life smack in the middle of World War II?
That is what is happening to Allison McKay in the year 1992, and her dilemma is further complicated by the man she meets and the people she befriends. Enjoy watching love race over two different time periods to bring two people together.

Lanai:  I notice, you like to write your books with the scene being in the early time periods? What draws you to that time?

Linda: What draws me is a family or karmic connection that I might feel about the era. Then I start to research and get into the atmosphere of the time period.

Lanai: What is your most favorite genre to write about?

Linda: I enjoy writing time travel romance, ghost stories, and, of course about my work as a psychic medium.

Lanai: What inspires your writing? Do you ever use real life experiences and incorporate them within the themes of your non-fiction work?

Linda: Real life is a catalyst for me. In Sentimental Journey, the story came about because my late mother gave me the pink-faced lapel watch pin she received from my dad in 1944. There is a photo of her wearing it in the book, and it is a key element in the story.

Lanai: Your book signing is coming up for Sentimental Journey, where is it taking place and how can fans get tickets?

Linda: The event is taking place at the Carlyle Hotel in NYC and is by private invitation. To get on the list, please call or write using the information below. Please call 908-518-9001 or email info@lindalauren.com

Lanai: Where can our readers purchase Sentimental Journey and other books you have written?

Linda:  My books can be found on amazon.com iBooks and on my website.

Lanai:  What do you have in store for 2015 that we should be watching for? Any messages you would like to share with our readers for this coming year?
Linda: The new year ahead is going to be invigorating and positive. Personally, my next books will be fiction and non-fiction. I'm writing about color and energy and also introducing a possible new time travel series character.

Thank you for sharing what you have been up to and giving our readers a sneak peek into your new book. I wish you all the best!

Linda Lauren's Color Forecast™!

And they Lived Happily Ever After-The Wedding of Nicholas Courtois and Bubbles Song Debby Sharma Reporting...

Samual Wetherby; edited by Debby Sharma to form to a collage.

The sun was almost setting; it was 3:00 pm. We could see the rays peering through the branches of the trees at the start of the altar. The trees blossomed blue and white flowers with white lights hanging down and transmitting a perfect romantic aura in the environment.  On 26th of October, 2014, Nicholas Courtois and Bubbles Song wed in the holy matrimony of forever love.

The groom walked down the altar, covered with petals, with the groomsman, Cowboy Swansan. Nicholas stood there waiting at the end of the altar with his eyes sparkling as he looked down thinking about the last few moments of his bachelor life ended. Then the flower girl, Sara, followed by Ivy, the bridesmaid with Blackheart, Best man and son of the couple, entered and walked towards the altar. The groom looked up with the smile and thinking all the dreams he had dreamt with his love. Becks and Bubbles held hands while climbing up the steps to walk to the end of altar. Every one smiled at the beautiful bride. The groom, Nicholas looked determined and convinced that she is the only one who could complete him in every way.

The beautiful white wedding gown sewed with soft silk and ribbons were custom made by “Junbug”. Bubbles says, “It was a weird story actually. Ever since I was a little girl, I've always said that when I get married I want Sarah's ball gown from the movie The Labyrinth. I couldn't find a mesh version in SL so I settled for a beautiful dress made by my friend Tori. When I was out shopping for bridesmaid dresses, I stumbled across this one, which is almost an exact replica of my dream dress, so I had to have it. Thank you so much Tori.”

The preacher, Vasanti Romano, started the wedding ceremony by saying, “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join together Nicholas Courtois and Bubbles Song in the hands of marriage.” After a moment of silence, she asked Becks Jarman, bride’s best friend to give her away to Nicholas Courtois. The preacher asked both Bubbles and Nicholas if they wanted to take each other to be their wedded husband and wife respectively. Would they love, honour, comfort, and cherish each other from that day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto each other for as long as you both shall live. Bubbles replied “I do” with commitment and love in her eyes. The couple looked at each other sharing a smile with sparkle in their eyes. Nicholas replied without any hesitation, “I do.”

When it was time to exchange their vows, Nicholas chuckled saying, “Course it's me first..." while searching his pockets, he said, “I wanted to cheat and take the words I had written for you in my picks and recycle them, not because I waited 'til today to write my vows, but because they capture how I feel for you and how I've felt for you since the day we met.” Bubbles smiled as she looked at her organised man. He continued, “On that day I was looking for a DJ to hire instead I found you, a friend, my girl, my angel...my songbird. Granted, I never spoke to you much after that day and did all I could to avoid you but the moment I needed you - you appeared. You made me laugh and gave me no down time to wallow in shit. And since that day you've been caring for me, loving me and, let's face it, you've had moments you've been "dealing" with me. For a while there I was scattered and struggling and ready to book but you, with all your patience and sweetness made it your mission to help me see how lucky I am. If anyone doubts it I'll confirm to them right now that you are the most amazing woman. You showed up right when I needed you. You replaced bullshit with sanity, conflict with calm and doubt with your own brand of goofy optimism - all the while dancing around me, sticking flowers in my hair as I scowl and try not to laugh...A songbird...a siren who has sung me into a fog of something new and strange. Those were my feelings then and they're my feelings now, but here on out I get to love you as my wife.”

With tears rolling down, Bubbles wiped her cheeks saying, “I know these are probably longer than your average wedding vows, so please forgive me. But there is a lot I wanted to say to this amazing man, and you all know me well enough to know I talk too much.” With a quick laugh, taking his hand and looking up into his eyes, she spoke softly, “Nick, The very moment you came into my life, is the moment my world was turned upside down. I've never felt so inexplicably drawn to someone from the second they said "Hello". Although I had to bury it away and hide it, I always shone a little bit brighter when you were around. It was a long time coming before we found our way to one another, but when we did, it happened exactly when the time was right for both of us. You have made me feel more deeply than I thought I could, and made me happier every single day than I ever thought I would be. It hasn't been an easy road for us, but I truly believe it has been worth it. We have been brought closer and made stronger and what we have now is exactly what it should be. There is nothing we cannot face if we stand together. You make my heart smile and you are more of amazement to me, each day I rediscover you. I fall in love with you again and again with each kiss and I'm the luckiest girl alive that you chose me to be your wife. And on this day and every day onward, I promise myself to you totally and completely. I promise to trust you, encourage you and respect you. To cherish your love and never take you for granted. I promise to always be honest and open with you. To earn your love every day and always be the girl you deserve. My heart and soul are already yours but I promise to let you keep them, as long as you keep them safe and I promise to do the same with yours in return. I promise to have the patience that love demands, to speak when words are needed and to share in the silence when they are not and to never let us lose our spark. I promise to always argue with you.” She looked up saying, “I told you I'd get that in there!” smiling again she continued, “I promise to always be your good luck charm and cheerleader for every Broncos game. But most of all, I promise to love you unconditionally and without hesitation. Loving what I know of you and trusting what I don’t yet know, I give you my hand. I give you my love. I give you myself. These are my vows, and I make them to you with a soul full of love and a heart full of you. With every beat of my heart, I love you.”

The rings were exchanged. Nicholas placed the ring on Bubbles's finger followed by Bubbles. They took an oath, “With this ring I thee wed. I wear it as a symbol of our love and commitment.” With this Vasanti Romano ends with her final words, “I pronounce that they are husband and wife. You may now seal the promises you have made with each other with a kiss. Nicholas, you may kiss your bride!”

After the wedding and the photo session, the couple went to the reception area, which was a wedding gift from the groomsman, Cowboy. Family and friends raised a toast for the newly wed couple.

Blackheart Taurus, the couple’s son said, “All I can say is I wish you and Nick all the happiness that two special people can have as they both deserve it. One promise I make to you is that I will not let you down in anyway. Congrats and much happiness to mom and dad.”

Becks Jarman, best friend of the Bride said, “Hello! For those of you who may not know me, I'm Becks! I'd sincerely like to thank everyone who could be with us today to celebrate this wonderful day. I have known Bubbles since my very first weeks on Second Life and from the first conversation with her I knew we were sister souls and I came to love her more than I can say! She showed me how much fun there is to be had here and has since been my best friend, my sister, my roommate, and still one of absolute favorite people in and out of second life! And just like Bubbles and i became fast friends, Bubbles knew Nick was the man for her the moment she met him. He was definitely her knight in shining sunglasses! I've never seen her glowing and so happy as I have when she's around this guy and I love him for it! I truly believe these two have something strong and special and I couldn't be happier for you both! I can't thank you both enough for letting me be such a big part of your special day. I'm so honoured and happy I could be here today. I know it's been a bumpy road planning this day, some keyboard malfunctions and crashes.  but we accomplished it like a boss!”

Ivy (Cottonhand) said, “The groom is my brother. I can say that Trinity is a special gift for him. I have known Nick for over a year. We met at a Rock Club. He supported me till that time and I tried to be there for him. When he told me about Bubbles, I could understand that she is very special girl and when I met her, she found a permanent place in my heart. I wish both of them a happy life. I feel so honoured to be her bridesmaid.”

Jeanette Contepomi says, “He proposed to her at my park during her show. I have those pictures too. My daughter is their flower girl too.

Deligaff says to Bubbles, “I am so happy you have found your soul mate, I wish you and him many years of happiness.”

Delores Beaumont says, “Bubbles is what her name implies, a very bubbly personality, Nick seems to be equally as fun to be around, I think they have found the perfect partnership and wish them a very long and happy marriage together. Good luck to you both and thank you for inviting me to be a part of your special day.”
Daydream said, “Nick and Bubbles, you are the perfect SL couple.  I wish for you happiness and joy for as long as it is possible here on SL.  Love you both.”

McDerix and Mariza said, “I've known Bubbles for a long time, some would say too long! But we had a date every Thursday at the Rockin Blues Cellar and she became
great friends with all of us!  We'd like to wish Bubbles and Nick a long and happy one and a great marriage too. We love you guys.”

KiikiiDoll and Jayson said, “Congratulations to Bubbles and Nick. Sorry we were not able to make the wedding :( Jayson and I wish you and Nick all the best!”

Photograph Credits: Samual Wetherby; edited by Debby Sharma to form to a collage.

Mrs. and Mr. Courtois thanked Cowboy who graciously allowed them the venue to celebrate. Nichlas laughingly said, “CB who is like my brother, since I met the guy he's had no problem giving shit to me straight and threatening to kick me at every turn. Thanks for the support, brother. Then there's Black, my son, he thinks he's better looking than me but I think it's evident who's the good looking one in this family, his mother.” He continued, “I also want to thank Becks who has been there when I might have messed things up with the girl who is now my wife. So with all that out of the way I say get drunk, request some music, keep up the talking and have fun. Salud!” With this they raised glass for the last time till they put their feet on the floor with a brief cake cutting event and eventually to their first dance.

On behalf of SL Enquirer, we would like to wish all the happiness and love to our newlywed couple, Bubbles and Nicholas Courtois.

Clean Up Holiday Hits Second Life Again - LadyLoveDr Reporting- November 1-November 7th

Welcome to Second Life's traditional clean up holiday!  This tradition was started by Alpha Zaius on the teen grid.  This young guy decided that he had so much junk that he would have to make a holiday out of it.  Every year from November 1st through November 7th, second lifers everywhere are calling in sick to take time out of their busy lives to purge their inventory.  Out with the old and in with the new!

If you're anything like me, you look at your inventory and are completely overwhelmed at the amount of items you've managed to collect over a short period of time.  Then there's the fact that I click on the free items even though I won't use them.  You never know, you might see me on a future episode of "Second Life Hoarders, Buried Alive".  I've collected some tips for doing the dirty work.  Let's get started!

Step 1:  Go to your own land, or a public sandbox if you don't have a place of your own to go.  If your land doesn't allow a large amount of prims you might head on over to the sandbox anyway.  I chose to use the SkyBeam Sandbox because they have 6 levels to choose from and it is easier to find a non crowded level.

Step 2:  Right-click the My Inventory folder and select New Folder.  Name this "TEMP" folder.  Move items's you need to categorize into this folder for sorting.  Do this for clothing, notecards, textures, objects, and so on; one at a time.  Be sure to delete duplicated items along the way.  Drag a bunch of stuff to the ground around you so you can see what it is.  This will make it easier to categorize.  Anything you don't want you can simply throw away.  But remember, any item that is transferable you can yard-sale or visit a place like Auction Wars.  For this I recommend making a folder titled "Yard-Sale" or "Auction Wars".  After finishing right-click on the trash listing and select to "empty trash".

Step 3:  Archiving is the best way to lower your inventory count, thus making it faster to load.  This is also known as cube-stuffing.  You build a prim (you can use a cube, sphere, anything you want) then edit it, go to the "contents" tab and drag items into it.  I would recommend categorizing your items.  For example, don't put clothes in with the furniture.  This will make it harder to sort through when you need to look for something.  Afterward click on the "general" tab and name your prim something you'll recognize like:  Halloween, Shirts, Furniture, etc.

If you want to go a step further and you own your own land that you know you're not going to lose, you may place those prims on the land itself.  Think of this like a storage unit so you don't have to lug all that stuff around.  Warnings and advisories:  If you put one no copy object in a box it will make the box no copy. No copy items can sometimes fail to rez in world and be lost forever.  Do this at your own risk.  Also, If you have more than 1024 scripts total  inside the box, the system will not allow the item to rez.

You could also make your life easier by grabbing an inventory organizer from the marketplace.  I have placed 6 FREE storage containers on the SL Enquirer Media Grounds  to help.   They have hover text over them, but you can edit the script to make it anything you'd like.  I've included instructions in the script to help you. A great item to pick up at the marketplace is a texture organizer, those really come in handy!  What are you waiting for, get organized!
