Celebrating 12 Years of Raising Funds for Cancer Research

Thousands of Second Life Residents from all across the real globe joined together on July 16 and 17 for the 12th Relay Weekend of Relay For Life of Second Life and celebrate.

“It’s incredible to see how this Relay has grown over the last 12 years,” said Stingray Raymaker, American Cancer Society staff partner. “That first year, 2005, there were 315 Avatars walking the track to bring attention to the importance of cancer research. This year more than 3,000 will take to the track. We have become the largest fundraiser in SL and other virtual worlds.”

Relay Weekend kicked off at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16 and featured 24 hours of themed laps, activities and entertainment. The weekend wrapped up with a massive party at 1 p.m. PDT Sunday, July 17.

For those who could not be at the Relay sims, they tuned in to T1 Radio, at T1radio.com, which  aired the festivities through Relay Weekend.

“Our 2016 season has brought about outreach like no other season” Said Random Padar - Darrow, 2016 Event Chair. “We have over 60 new teams this year.  At every team event we have seen more and more new faces.  I am thrilled that our Relay Weekend is almost here!  We will begin with an opening ceremony beginning at 10am on July 16th, followed by our Honor Lap for our survivors and caregivers to walk proudly. At 9pm we will hold our always inspiring and touching Luminaria ceremony.  As I walk through our sims this year I see some amazing builds!  Team campsites along with special designer sims will compete for awards that display cancer education and theme inspired builds.  Once Upon A Cure season will go down in the history books as one which was filled with stories from our passionate Relayers, while working to write the end of the story!”

Relay For Life of Second Life is an annual activity that takes place in Second Life in July each year. Volunteers form or join teams to have fun while fundraising and raising awareness from March through mid-July. In July, teams build campsites and walk a track, just like in a real world Relay.  Over the last eleven years, Relay For Life of Second Life has raised almost $3 million for cancer research and is the largest charity event in the virtual worlds. Several thousand volunteers from more than 80 countries participate each year, truly making it a global event.

There are many ways to get involved in Relay For Life of Second Life and another way to show your support is through sponsorships. Relay For Life of Second Life is proud to have the following as premier sponsors:  RGF Estates, Rockliffe University, Sol Existence and Runestone and other sponsorships are available; please contact the Cathy10 Longoria, Sponsorship Lead or Random Padar, Event Chair for more details.

Keep up with the news on Relay For Life of Second Life through it’s website, Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr pages:

A Somber Look At The Trace Too

The Trace is a wonderful work by Kylie Jaxxon.  Kylie's way of creating beauty with subtle, simple creations, are beyond compare. The Trace is seasonal, and changes with the seasons,

Visit here.  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The%20Trace%20Too/128/128/0?title=The%20Trace%20Too

In 2014 she informed us all that she had leukaemia, and had to close the trace to take care of herself.  After several chemo sessions, and occasional waves to us on the SL feeds, she announced that her leukaemia was in remission, and that The Trace was returning!  We were all elated, and could not wait for it too open.

The Trace opened (now called The Trace Too) and we flooded in to see.

Sadly now we have not heard from Kylie.  Her SL account is gone as well as her blog, and other websites.  One of her last pictures called "Anchored and Gone"  is here on Flikr https://www.flickr.com/photos/76614164@N02/19044843900/in/dateposted/

We at the spaceport paid the sim's tier up to the 29th of August.

There will be fundraising events for tier at The Commune Utopia, with 14 DJ's on Thursday the 23rd of July.  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Orga/20/88/29 and Lagrange Point Spaceport on Sunday the 26th, with a few hours of live music. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lagrange%20Point/128/128/0?title=Lagrange%20Point  More info on these events to follow.

Trinity Yazamoto informed me that she would hold an art auction at the Trace.  The exhibition should start around the 2nd of august and she’s accepting submissions of photographs or digital artwork featuring The Trace Too from now on. You can IM her in world (no notecards please).
This is also a call out to Kylie's friends to get involved.  If you love Kylie and the Trace please contact me!

We are going to try to keep the Sim open till September the 1st, so you can come to The Trace and remember.  Sadly after that The Trace Too must close so we can keep the Trace safe in our own memories.

So please do come out and visit the lovely Trace Too, and celebrate Kylie's Life with us!"

Relay Rockers Announce 2015 CRFB Top DJ Competition Schedule and Return of Relay d’Alliez

(Arinultra Cay) The Relay Rockers executive committee held its 2015 organizing meeting and selected Sue Peregrine as the 2015 Team Captain. The daughter of Alliez Mysterio and CEO of dAlliez Estates, Sue has been a member of the team since its inception in 2005. The team also announced its plans to once again host the very popular Celebrate Remember Fight Back Top DJ Competition and to provide, with dAlliez Estates, Relay d’Alliez as a venue for teams to host Relay fundraising events during the 2015 season. The 4th annual CRFB Top DJ competition is a fundraising contest, challenging online DJs to raise the most donations for the American Cancer Society during a series of 1 and 2 hour sets.

Nearly 50 DJs from all over Second Life have taken part in the contest since it began in
2012 and the CRFB competition has raised over L$6,000,000 to support the Relay For Life of Second Life.

According to Competition Director and Rocker CoCaptain Ariel Stormcrow, the Rockers will once again be inviting Second Life music venues to be “Partner Venues” and host preliminary rounds of the competition. She also stated that, in response to suggestions, the team will provide for the use of Dual Team Kiosks during the preliminary rounds for competitors who are registered members of another Relay For Life team. Online registration for the competition, which will run from late March through May, will open during the first week of February and will be open to the first 16 competitors. For more information please contact Ariel Stormcrow ariel@relayrockers.t1radio.com

Relay d’Alliez, which the team made available in 2014 through an arrangement with their premier sponsor dAlliez Estates, will once again be available as a fundraising event venue for registered teams. Teams will be able to reserve the sim in parcels or its entirety beginning with Kick off Week through event weekend in July. More information on how to place a reservation will be announced in early February to the Relay For Life Volunteers group and on T1Radio. For more information about Relay dAlliez contact

Their Barbershop Kiosks will be set up on March 11th and 18th, respectively with their shearing to occur one week hence. The Rockers also plan to hold RelayStock ‘15 as a multi team event and invite all teams to begin planning to attend.

The Children of the World Charity Project- Sponsors Wanted!

Helping the World of Children through Music.

Friday, December 12, 2014 at 12pm slt through Sunday, December 14 at 12pm slt

This is a charity event for Children of the war in Syria and Iraq, we have chosen them for many reasons but especially because we can provide life-changing support to the most vulnerable children whose families, communities and schools have been torn apart by war. Some kids have lost an entire family and their homes. We cannot change the world but we can help a bit <3

We are going to unite all the bigger clubs, shops and any other kind of business or help we can get in Second Life for a good cause. Let’s show the world what we can do by helping those kids that most need it in real life by crossing the barrier from the virtual world into the real world to help others.

Sponsorships for this event will be clubs, shops, builders, designers, blogger and anyone else who wants to contribute their time and efforts. Any help we can get for this cause would be amazing.

Sponsors do not need to pay anything to help raise money. Word of mouth is just as valuable. Sponsors can help by driving traffic to the sim just by using their name and resources. Supporters working together will make this event successful.

Every club will have one stand at our sim where they will put their name ,lm and any publicity they wish (all PG is for kids!). ,the stands will be around the main dance area where the DJs and hosts will be performing for 48 hours. All tips and donations will be donated to the kids.

The sponsors will give us access to their groups for 48 hours to post about the event,(as host)and we will provide them with a stand with our LM and picture for their club/shop etc . Set up will begin 3 weeks prior to the event so sponsors can build up awareness.

The more sponsors we have the better,

Want to help? Send an IM to Asuquitar Resident in-world

Depending on how many clubs join us, the event will be hosted on one or two sims (the price for sims would be pay by Asquitar Resident as her own donation and NOT taking from the donations boxes)

The sim theme will be like a festival with open air space and decorated accordingly with the charity featured prominently with some creative touches.
We have builders working on this sim as sponsors too, everybody involved is donating their time and services for free. So far we have managers, DJs, host, bloggers, builders, friends and more. Without all of you generous people this event won’t be possible.

DJs from each club will be able to participate and donate their time as they wish and same with the staff. All entertainment sponsors and hosts are managed by dexevils resident, please im him to be put in the schedule.

About Donations
All donations collected will be sent to a very recognized non profit organization in the UK, The donation box will be open to public to view throughout the event. Once the event is over, all lindens collected will be change to pounds by Asuquitar Resident.  The exactly amount shown on the donation box will be print screened and a copy of the document will be featured on our Facebook group.

After donations are transferred, Asuquitar Resident will keep a close follow up until the money arrives to its intended destination. This fundraiser event is associated with War child, http://www.warchild.org.uk

Help us with your voice to reach the world of Second Life, this event belongs to all of us, for the children and their future. Invite your friends to like on our Facebook, webpage so they too can join in this amazing cause.

Spotlight on Brique Topaz- Helping Feed Real Life Children from a Virtual World- Sunny Love Holiday Reporting.

There are many things to do in Second life, but you may not know that you can actually change someone’s real life through this virtual world too.

Brique Topaz, founder and chairwoman of "Live and Learn in Kenya Int'l" came to second life with just that in mind, arriving 4 years ago and establishing the great Feed a Smile project.

The Feed a Smile project allows second life avatars to sponsor a child in Kenya. This sponsorship provides enough money to support a child’s everyday needs to attend schools, including meals. Also, this project holds concerts at The Lavender Field for Feed a Smile in which all performers give 100% of their tips to the cause. I was delighted to sit down with Brique and get to find out more information.
