Inside the World of Relay for Life - Part Two -- Coco Lierfatte Reporting
In memory of Courtesan DeCuir
As the various events for The Relay for Life for 2012 get ready to kick off I would like to share this story with you.
In 2007 one Courtesan DeCuir arrived in Second Life. Courtesan DeCuir who had been a prior cancer survivor took Relay for Life very seriously. One year she did a tribute as her music Idol “Martina McBride” during Relay for Life to help those who were in need and another time we heard Courtesan speak once more through Martina McBride in the words of her release “I’m Gonna Love You Through It”.
Now it's forced smiles and baggy shirts
To hide what the cancer took from her
But she just wants to feel like a woman again
She said, "I don't think I can do this anymore"
He took her in his arms and said “That's what my love is for”
In her time in SL, Courtesan met and eventually married Ortho Vargas. Courtesans’ impact on Ortho was immediate. She mentioned to her friends that her greatest moment was when he took a picture of her hair and with that image he created the REDHEAD.
On the very last day of Relay for Life 2011, Courtesan DeCuir passed away from a brief illness. Her loss has transcended friendship and family.
The team at JCS decided to dedicate the ‘Devoted to a Cure’ logo for the 2012 Relay for Life to her.
The BASS GUITAR is the BC RICH READHEAD. The original graphic in the guitar is of Courtesans hair.
The Four Strings signify the four years Courtesan blessed us with her presence. 2007 to 2011. Each year symbolizing a year. The wings signify her Transition and Ascension into heaven. At the very top behind the neck of the Guitar you will see a heart; the shadows mean that she continues to reach out to everyone. You will also notice two streaks of water; the first streak is to remind us of the tears shed when we learned she had passed away. The Second streak is for the tears shed on the day of her memorial. Behind the wings are linked music notes. These represent the harmony Ortho and Courtesan shared with one another and to remind us of the music that brought them together.
The connected circles you see are really a C and an O = Courtesan and Ortho.
And finally the last partially filled in circle is called the circle of life. JCS believe that it takes a lifetime to really get to know someone, especially when that person accepts your hand and agrees to share that lifetime with you. They also feel that Courtesan was taken away too soon. So they left this circle partially unfinished to remind us all, just how precious life truly is.

Dedicated to Courtesan DeCuir by
Johnathan Hiess, Jenna Coppola, Tari Ember and the Entire JCS Family

Willowdale High School - An Education Experience -- Amanda432 Cheviot Reporting
For me, I had the same reservations. Strangely, teaching high school in Second Life is too close to my real life experience and a lot of us in Second Life are trying to separate the two. And even stranger, I teach High School Algebra. When making your dream in Second Life come true, the last thing I thought that would be is being a high school Algebra teacher.
Willowdale High School (WHS) is my first SL high school (yes, there are actually others out there!) and I’ve been there for almost a year. Why do I stay? Well, because it’s fun. But not only is WHS an education environment, it is also an RP. People role play as teachers, students, and WHS staff. This was a new experience for me because I’m not a general RP’er. There are times I’ve found myself having to role play as a teacher with the students and times I’ve actually taught something in class. Then again, isn’t this the same in real life?

Press Release : Launch of a new group for promising starter models, “A Star Is Born!”
February 29, 2012
Announcement: Launch of a new group for promising starter models, “A Star Is Born!”
Kay Fairey announces today that she is launching a non-profit group that is dedicated to providing promising starter models with actual runway show experience to initiate their career start.
This group will be led by Kay Fairey and will admit a maximum of 20 new graduate students from any model academy in Second Life to provide real on-the-job runway show experiences which the members can list in their resume when applying for agency castings. Kay stresses that the group is neither an academy nor an agency and will not be affiliated with any particular model academy. All members will be asked to leave after they have three show experiences including shows by other groups in order to open their spots to newer graduates. This activity will continue while Kay is able to provide this service.
Shows will be organized and run by Kay at runways that will be rented with the support of BLVD Agency under BOSL Organization, where Kay is currently CEO. Blackbarbie Bravin and Wicca Merlin, who support this concept, have joined the group as Officers.
There will be a minimum payment made to all models which will be less than the market average for professional models but Kay stresses that she wants future top models to be accustomed to the idea of paid modeling jobs as she is also an avid promoter of paid shows.
“Models spend a lot of money to style the given outfits so that they look good. I think it is only fair that models get some payment even if they will usually spend more than they earn. Free shows with no payments made to models are taking advantage of the money models pay out of their pockets to make the outfit and the agency look good and this is not fair to them.”
The way new graduate students are invited to this group may change in the future but for now only those who have been recommended by various modeling academies will be invited to the group to make sure the promising future top models get priority in taking advantage of this system.
A separate letter will be sent out soon to modeling academy Owners and Directors.
A special thanks goes to Frolic Mills of BOSL Organization for supporting this concept and allowing this group to use his runways as show venues.
