Spotlight on the Kissing Booth and Valeria Paster-Bimala Tagore Reporting

The Kissing Booth brought to Second Life from The SIMS Online nearly a decade ago. Its objective was to become a local icon through lighting and friendly club entertainment and has certainly made its mark. Valeria Paster is the creator and responsible for this a small intimate friendly place. Both Drums, a great dancer and guru of music along with Valeria Paster represents the joy of living intensely. Following-up and continuity are important, as well as keeping promises to become a musical cult and unique club with kind avatars, DJs and mentors. The Kissing Booth features the kind of attention that is sure to gratify the most challenging visitor and will certainly stimulate the five senses of those who appreciate relationships, worthy music, kisses, bites and funny people who share the same interests.

Valeria is firmly established as an entertainment promoter in Second Life and it is something that nobody would deny, because she has more followers and true friends more than most in Second Life. It can be seen by the large numbers of avatars who gather at the club.

Interview with Valeria

Bimala: Valeria, could you tell me about the trajectory of Kissing Booth’s. I know you started in “The Sims Online”, a highly popular computer game, and then migrated to Second Life in 2006. Tell us about this amazing historic process.

Valeria: Oct 2003 I downloaded the “Sims online”, when searching for a place I saw a place called “The Kissing Room” so I landed there. There was a girl named Sally just building the room. She asked me if I wanted to be a roommate and I said yes at that time. She was charging like 10 “Simoleans” for a kiss any way’s then  I went on vacation for 2 weeks when I came back she had changed the name to “THE KISSING BOOTH” and no longer charged for a kiss :)  We were number one romance house in “The Sims Online” after 6 months Sally turned over the “Kissing Booth” land to me she said that it was me and I was always there running the place for her. She moved on in “The Sims online” for other avenues, so, I decided to make a kissing booth in Second Life when “The Sims online” went out of business. I think it was like august 2006. I made a Valeria in Second Life who was owner in “The Sims online” and along with my RL Sister Tammie Trottier we decided to buy two plots of land which had 117 prims for each plot. We had total of 234 prims for our very first Kissing Booth in Second life. We put a kissing booth stand that my friend made, and asked another “The Sims online” friend to make 4 walls and floor with no ceiling. However most the people that came to “The Kissing Booth” was friends from TSO but we continued to make new friends here in Second Life at that time we just played R&B on the radio but one day we found out that we could stream into Second Life, so we got a DJ friend from “Sims online”, his name is DJ Canuck who worked for Volt Radio at that time. Then we started having DJ's coming in then themes & contests. DJ Dreams, DJ Pasing Wind, DJ Stella, they would bring their friends and the friends brought their friends and it just snowballed. This is how the “The Kissing Booth” got started in Second Life.

Bimala: The best DJs from all over the virtual world come to Kissing Booth joining the best club and the best nightlife.  Since the beginning of the Kissing Booth, your venue has been a welcoming “domicile” for new members and also the best spot to meet and share with friends over the last 8 years. In this regard, Kissing Booth´s is where many Djs take pride in sharing music with patrons. Most of them manage their own music collections. Why is Kissing Booth so successful and how it packs the house every weekend?

Valeria: I feel the “Kissing Booth” in Second Life is unique & we are PG which it’s safe for just about any age, it’s a small & friendly club, after myself going to other clubs the KB always feels like home and I have been told that many times over the years. We have loyal regulars VIPs & STAFF. We have about 1400 in the group, but over all we are family at the Kissing Booth. We greet everyone that comes in and make them feel at home. We have many awesome dances in dance pad, dance balls and couples dances, unlike other clubs you walk in don't know where the dance balls are, no one greets you. We also give a little linden love as well with a random drawing, coin tosses, etc.

Bimala: We are individually responsible for the influences that we apply on others. Noob support is some kind of social assistance in this virtual world and in this amazing story, Djs entertainment are the main attraction in your club. We entertain ourselves by dancing around the fires to the beat of the music or joining the ritual of good companionship because we all know music is a cultural phenomenon in Second Life. Please tell us about the huge body of virtual souls congregated in Kissing Booth?
Valeria: We have awesome DJs who are free to play what they want, which is many genre and people keep coming back so it tells me we are doing the right thing. We are almost to 80k people coming in the KB for the last 5 years. Did not count how many before that but I think that's a very big accomplishment and tells me we are doing something right

Bimala: I will take this opportunity to express my gratitude and appreciation to those DJS who initiated this noble job and their followers. They deserve our appreciation. You told us about Volt Radio, sparklingly creative community of crazy Djs. “The Kissing Book” supports its own radio. Tell us about the story of “Fly High Radio”.

Valeria: Since Fantasy2u Deere joined Second Life back in 2006, her sole aim was to share her distinctive style of music with others. By first gaining experience with her residency at the popular Kissing Booth Club, she perfected her producing skills. DJ Deere continues to entertain audiences with her original blues sets, ubiquitous rhythms, soulful melodies and unique artistry. She raises the bar as evidenced through a simple listen to her widely-acclaimed radio station, Fly High Radio. So we made her station our own station.

Bimala: In marketing some people say that a good name will last.  Kissing Booth is some kind of attraction where the man or women running the booth aren’t kissing customers for money. Why did you choose that name for your club? Have you ever seen or participated in a kissing booth? ;)

Valeria: We never charged for kisses but it does make people come in wondering what a kissing booth is. So they come in and check it out. We are in the process having a KB event where singles can come in & pay for a kiss... our club is really PG almost any age is welcome. We make everyone feel welcome if you are furies, fairy, gay, we do not discriminate in any way.

Bimala: Your support makes the difference. You have helped so many new residents get a head start in SL.  Could you expand a little bit more about this?

Valeria: If a newbie comes in whoever in the club will help them get started giving clothes, hints where to find stuff on market place or even give them skin, shapes, hair and a nice outfit. I know when I made my first Avatar in SL back in 2004 I was a complete newbie for over a year no one helped me and I almost stopped playing.. so my mission in second life is to help others enjoy second life as much as I do now... so if you are newbie and need help the kissing is the place to go... so many people drop in saying someone told them to come here to get help so I feel we are a first-aid station for newbies :) most of the newbies will move on after a month or two but to my delight they will pop in once in a while they never ever forget the KB..Below here are some feedbacks from a sign I have at the kb for the last 3 months

Definitely KISSING BOOTH is the place to be! Don’t forget to visit this fantastic club.

Looking for a Place to Live in Second Life? Ccoursey Reporting...

Renting in Second Life is something we all do or have done.  The only thing is deciding where, what, and who to rent from.  There are many factors: Price, amount of prims you want, what you'd like the land for, and how much interaction you'd like with the landlord or lady.  It is so much more than just finding a place you like and handing over the lindens.  I went exploring options in Second Life, from skyboxes to just land.  It is always good to explore options before settling on anything.

Seychelles Isles

Teleport inside a beautiful Yacht Club in Port Victoria Isle.  Upstairs there is two boards set up to see available land and available boat slips.  To purchase property you must contact one of four people, Jericho Napoli, Baila Palmira, IrishGent, or Ericaanne.  There is a staff board set up across from the land boards to let you know who is currently online to contact.  The purchase price is one week's tier plus the first month's tier which helps pay for domain costs, support staff, community costs, advertising, and landscaping among other things.  Once you pay for your land, you'll be invited to the group for residents as well as the Seychelles Isles Yacht Club.  There is a builder available to make sure all parcels are consistent with the theme and aesthetic tropical design Seychelles has established.  Custom terraforming is available to tenants.  The waterways are connected with direct access to the Linden Ocean and the Blake Sea promoting boating and flying.  To invite anyone to the group you have to contact either the CEO or Chief Operations Officer, this protects everyone's privacy making Seychelles Isles more secure for each tenant.

Virtual Reality Skybox, Skybox Rental

When you teleport into skybox rentals it is an office with boards to click for information on the inside, outside are teleporters to take you to each skybox.  The scenery and housing can be changed anytime here, some are fully furnished.  There is mention if you'd like unfurnished there might be a price break.  Prices starting at 295 L's a week.  Security orbs allow tenants to decide who is allowed within their home, all intruders are ejected when they get within 1m of the skybox.  It is a virtual reality cube located high in the clouds. For privacy, you are not seen from the outside.  There were several options from just a plain platform to a ritzy motel room, an Egyptian setup, even a deserted island looking house surrounded by water.  There are over 20 scenes to choose from.  The beds, some furniture are equipped with pose balls, there are available prims to buy and use to decorate as you wish.  The radio is set to Contemporary music and cannot be changed without affecting all the tenants, also the TV isn't set to keep lag down.

Mystic Rentals

As soon as I landed at Mystic Rental property there was a rental agent there to help me.  She was filled with information, knew all available lands, and gave me links to helping me find the perfect land to suit my needs.  There is a Marketplace available to check out the lands from Mystic at https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/149942 .  There is also a website with information www.mysticalrentals.com On each land is a rental box with all the information you would need.  There is different size rez areas and also different themes to chose from.  There are full sized parcels available at 1480 L's a week with 1005 prims, 980 L's a week with 702 prims, and 1/4 sized parcels available at 480 a week with 310 prims.  There are 15 themes to choose from.  You receive a prim counter and a intan dance ball.  All properties are private and come with security orbs that give you eject and ban rights.  There is a radio hud for each land, and access to shared TV media.  What I love is the websites allowing you to search around at the options without having to visit each one.  First time tenants here get a 5% discount if they rent for four weeks with their initial payment plus ten days free.

Bella Pointe

You teleport into an office filled with boards of the different lands available here.  Then you have to click the board of whatever land you are interested in to receive information.  They rent commercial land from the small rentals of 16,384 square meters with 250 prims for 399 to the large rentals of 65,536 square meters with 1000 prims for 1499 L.  There are Winter Bliss domes to choose from, Hollow, Cove, Sakura Island, a Mountain Retreat, and Canyon Falls.  Each has options of 65,536 sqm- 1000 prims for 1499 L, Medium rentals of 32,768 sqm-500 prims for 799 L's, and Small rentals of 16,384 sqm with 250 prims for 399 L's.  No one that worked there teleported in while I was there, there is names to message with any problems, but I might talk to them first.  It says in note card that once you pay into the available sign that the next available member of management will stop by to move the signs out of your way and check in on you.  I like to be at least on talking terms when I rent from someone (personal choice) so would have to message and meet to see if I did need something there would be someone available.

KC Estates

As soon as you touch ground there is a bot greeting you.  Each option has a picture showing how many available, prims, price, and teleport so that you can look from their office.  The castle look is only 190 L's a week with 40 prims,a Vegas look with three floors and 40 prims a week for 240 L's, a pink skybox (win) with two floors and 40 prims for 240 L's a week, and a beach with 350 prims for 700 L a week.  The beach does say it is a quarter of sim though, which isn't a bad deal.  You can't use a TV or a radio in the skyboxes, but you can change for another model anytime and your rent will be transferred.  The skyboxes here are older styled, but great animations.

Shark Key Residential Land

This is a beach themed residential sim with the option of furnished or unfurnished space and 937 prims. 4096 sqm furnished is 1400 L's a week or unfurnished is 1300 L's a week.  Gypsylynn Whelan is the manager to contact.  There are no poofers, temp rezzers, or breedables to keep the land low lag.  Each parcel has privacy rights restricting voice, gestures so that you can be only seen and heard by those on your own.  You have terraform rights on parcel allowing you to achieve whatever look you'd chose to go for: from beach homes, tiki huts, cabins, or villas.  The land is beautiful with many options for decorations and living choice.

The Children of the World Charity Project- Sponsors Wanted!

Helping the World of Children through Music.

Friday, December 12, 2014 at 12pm slt through Sunday, December 14 at 12pm slt

This is a charity event for Children of the war in Syria and Iraq, we have chosen them for many reasons but especially because we can provide life-changing support to the most vulnerable children whose families, communities and schools have been torn apart by war. Some kids have lost an entire family and their homes. We cannot change the world but we can help a bit <3

We are going to unite all the bigger clubs, shops and any other kind of business or help we can get in Second Life for a good cause. Let’s show the world what we can do by helping those kids that most need it in real life by crossing the barrier from the virtual world into the real world to help others.

Sponsorships for this event will be clubs, shops, builders, designers, blogger and anyone else who wants to contribute their time and efforts. Any help we can get for this cause would be amazing.

Sponsors do not need to pay anything to help raise money. Word of mouth is just as valuable. Sponsors can help by driving traffic to the sim just by using their name and resources. Supporters working together will make this event successful.

Every club will have one stand at our sim where they will put their name ,lm and any publicity they wish (all PG is for kids!). ,the stands will be around the main dance area where the DJs and hosts will be performing for 48 hours. All tips and donations will be donated to the kids.

The sponsors will give us access to their groups for 48 hours to post about the event,(as host)and we will provide them with a stand with our LM and picture for their club/shop etc . Set up will begin 3 weeks prior to the event so sponsors can build up awareness.

The more sponsors we have the better,

Want to help? Send an IM to Asuquitar Resident in-world

Depending on how many clubs join us, the event will be hosted on one or two sims (the price for sims would be pay by Asquitar Resident as her own donation and NOT taking from the donations boxes)

The sim theme will be like a festival with open air space and decorated accordingly with the charity featured prominently with some creative touches.
We have builders working on this sim as sponsors too, everybody involved is donating their time and services for free. So far we have managers, DJs, host, bloggers, builders, friends and more. Without all of you generous people this event won’t be possible.

DJs from each club will be able to participate and donate their time as they wish and same with the staff. All entertainment sponsors and hosts are managed by dexevils resident, please im him to be put in the schedule.

About Donations
All donations collected will be sent to a very recognized non profit organization in the UK, The donation box will be open to public to view throughout the event. Once the event is over, all lindens collected will be change to pounds by Asuquitar Resident.  The exactly amount shown on the donation box will be print screened and a copy of the document will be featured on our Facebook group.

After donations are transferred, Asuquitar Resident will keep a close follow up until the money arrives to its intended destination. This fundraiser event is associated with War child, http://www.warchild.org.uk

Introducing Discount Roulette- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Everyone loves a great deal when they are out and about shopping in Second Life. With the countless malls and stores across the grid it can become overwhelming trying to look for items that are both quality and match your shopping budget. Here is an interesting solution to your shopping dilemma, how about playing a little bit of Discount Roulette? It is the newest most exciting way for merchants to show off their newest products.

It works in two ways. For merchants, it allows them to put products in the machine and set the price. When customers pay the set price, they will receive a random discount anywhere from 10%, 20% or even 100% off! You may think nothing is free but why not take the chance and have some fun.

To learn more about this unique product, we sat down with creator Julya Lykin to talk more about it.

Interview with Julya Lykin

Lanai: Hi Julya, can you tell me a little bit about Shame Me Designs and what your brand has to offer Second Life residents?

Julya:  Shame Me Designs started off as a shape shop.  It had progressed into other things, dabbling in applier friendly clothing, and now Discount Roulette.  Thus far, Shame Me Designs has also been the home of the hunt Dare2Bare (next one is January 15th – February 15th).

Lanai:  You have an interesting product:  Discount Roulette.  What made you come up with the idea?

Julya:  I’ve always had a passion for marketing.  Being a designer myself, I know the price it takes to put out a freebie.  Designing anything takes time, and time is money.  This way the designers will be able to make their cost back from making the item, and give the customers an exciting reason to come frequently, to see what’s new.  It’s a true win, win!

Lanai:  The features for Discount Roulette seem simple. Can you explain how merchants can add items and set a price? Also, how many items can be put into this machine?

Julya:  Setting up the machine is quite simple.  Edit the machine, and put your price in the “Description” box.  Then click over to the “Contents” Tab, take out the “gift box,” and put your item inside.  While you’re in the “Contents” Tab, double click on the script and simply click the reset button, close everything up and your ready to rock.  One item per machine.

Lanai: Can merchants have multiple Discount Roulette Machines?
Julya:  Yes, the machine is sold as copy, no transfer.  You can set up as many as you like.  As other versions come out, there will be free updates.

Lanai: Do you have to join a group in order to receive discounts?
Julya:  No.  Anyone can play.  It is set up to be completely random.

Lanai: Where can merchants purchase this system?

Julya:  There are two different ways you can purchase the machine.  In-world you can purchase it at Shame Me Designs.  There is a machine set out with an item inside.  Or if you prefer, you can also purchase it on Marketplace.  It is available at both locations for L$350.

Lanai: With products like Discount Roulette available to shoppers, I think it makes shopping a bit more fun. Will you be coming up with other ways to bring merchants and customers together?

Yes, there is a group made called Discount Roulette, in which customers can find all the newest locations and designers can inform customers of their new items.  Once a week there will be an updated list posted in notices of stores with slurls attached for your convenience.  The Discount Roulette blog is now up and running, where the list will be maintained.  Another feature will be designer items blogged.  We have a few more tricks up our sleeves for the future =).
