Celebrating Seven Years of Success at Club Lion- Rere Sandalwood Reporting…

In an SL world where clubs come and go, coming across a club that has been around for seven years or more is rare.  Thus, when the SL Enquirer learned about Club Lion’s upcoming seven year anniversary, we decided to investigate the club’s key to longevity.
To further our investigation, we not only relied on club owner ITA (huanita.wunderlich), we also turned to her partner Ricardo AvalirA.

With over 152 people in attendance, the May 1, 2015 Club Lion Anniversary Celebration was, according to ITA (huanita.wunderlich) and her partner Ricardo Alvaliro, a huge success.  According to AvalirA, “ITA designed the whole [decorative] platform for the party, and she took some pics…” To get a better understanding of just how awesome the decorations were, ITA was kind enough to share her pictures with the SL Enquirer.
In addition to ITA’s willingness to share the pictures she took of Club Lion’s Seven Year Anniversary, the SL Enquirer asked Alvaliro about his take on Club Lion’s key to longetivity. He states with no hesistation, “ITA’s vision and dedication to her venue.  She is meticulous…it is amazing to watch her create everything for her club….”
ITA’s meticulous nature is not only apparent in the way Club Lion is built, but it is also obvious when one takes a look at the surrounding landscape.  Delicate rose bushes, trees and neatly trimmed shrubbery surround the Club.  In addition, there is a sitting area available for patrons, as well as an area where patrons can candidly stare at the Club’s waterfront.

Outside of Club Lion’s entrance is a neatly decorated, grey cobblestoned entrance that connects to a black dancefloor trimmed in red.  In the middle of the dancefloor is the Club Lion’s name…a name that seems to spin and flash as a reflection of ITA’s accomplishments.
In addition to ITA’s meticulous nature, Ricardo AvalirA also credits her dedication to others as the key to her longevity.  He explains, “I use to sing at ITA’s club years ago…then I took a break…but I have been singing in SL for about five years…”
What is impressive about this comment is the fact that AvalirA not only worked for ITA prior to taking an SL break, but that he was allowed to return to his position as a singer at ITA’s Club Lion upon his return to SL. Though it is easy to assume that the reason for his easy return was due to his partnership with ITA, to dismiss his return on that basis is unmerited because it keenly demonstrates another secret to ITA’s longevity:  cultivating and keeping strong relationships with her employees.

ITA Discusses How Cultivating Friendships Has Led to Club Lion’s Longevity
ITA states in a matter of fact fashion, “Well, [many club owners] just set up a box…a stage, and call that a club…and sometimes, I really wonder about that…” She smiles, then continues, “…you have to stand by your club and your singers…There is so much work to running a club. People just think they can open a club and make money...lol. For me, I find that if the chemistry between the singers, as well as the hosts and other employees is ok with me, that often helps me to keep them as long term employees…”
With honesty and friendship acting as a foundation to Club Lion’s longevity, ITA’s vision, according to her profile page, “…was to create a place where people in Second Life could come to have fun, meet new people, here great music [specifically live performances, though there is a DJ themed event at her Goth Club on Thursdays, too], or just to relax.” This philosophy is regularly practiced by ITA on a daily basis, and she ascertains that this practice is similar to what many have to do on a daily basis in RL.  She contends, “[yes, cultivating and maintaining friendships in SL] is like RL…there are some that like you and some that don’t…you can’t change that…you can only try to make people feel comfortable…treat people like how you want to be treated.”

One of many ways ITA treats others…specifically her employees…the way she would like to be treated is by regularly supporting them when they perform at other venues. For instance, she recently supported Ricardo AvalirA’s performance at Sunshine’s Cove Beach Club and Mermaid’s Reef (61, 75, 22).  While ITA contends that this is normal and in keeping to being partnered with AvalirA, she acknowledges that this kind of support is rare when it comes to SL employee relationships.  She contends, “Supporting one another should happen, but [I know] it does not happen often enough…”
Because ITA is so steadfast in her support, her staff members, in turn are very helpful to her.  She explains, “I have a good staff too…they help me a lot, and they also live with me on the [Club Lion] sim, so I have the best people around me…”

Multitasking and Asking for Help:  Another Secret to Club Lion’s Longevity
Besides cultivating positive and long term relationships with her employees, ITA contends that it is also important to ask for help…particularly if you are interested in opening a club of your own.  “I would strongly suggest to consult with someone who is experienced in running a club….”  ITA continues, “[because]..there are many things that can go wrong. But the biggest thing is that you believe in what you're doing...and keep strong!”

Besides having a strong belief in what she is doing, ITA stresses the importance of being talented in multiple SL sectors.  One way to express this talent is by multitasking, which ITA is a pro at. “In my spare time,” she explains, “I design clothes and make music globes—among other items—that I sell in my storefront.” Though she coughs to denote some sarcasm, the SL Enquirer has seen ITA multitask with ease.  This is because, in addition to designing clothes, ITA  is also a talented Believe me, when you run a club you don't have a lot of spare time. (cough) I design clothes and make music photographer and also runs a Goth Club. And though ITA coughs once more and says, “Believe me, when you run a club you don't have a lot of spare time…” the SL Enquirer urges everyone to look to ITA as a fine example of a Club Owner that not only DOES, but CAN multitask!
In the course of multitasking, ITA also advises that club owners should stay on their toes and be prepared for surprises. “You should always be ready for the unexpected and be prepared…There are so many things to do behind the scenes that nobody sees and believe me, it is a lot of work, but [also very] rewarding.”

Helping Other Charities and Standing By Those That Work For You…
ITA believes that the best way a club owner can be duly rewarded in SL is by sticking by those that work for them rather than treat them like disposable commodities. ITA states, rather emphatically, “It's always been my dream to own a club and sl gave me that chance to live my dream…” she continues, “…and at times had to fight for that dream. [However,] I strongly believe that I am doing good for others by providing great singers from all over the world. It's always fun to meet new people who [later] become friends.”
Fueled by her belief in helping others, ITA cites her talent in doing so as one of her many accomplishments. She explains, “I have raised lindens for cancer charities and have done many singer contests…as well as contests for our guests [complete] with linden prizes.”  Thus, by reaching out to the community she serves, ITA has successfully built strong relationships with other organizations, as well as sufficiently catered to those that patronize her club.

Be mindful that ITA is very modest about her accomplishments.  However, all modesty aside, there is an aura of respect that exudes from an establishment that has been in SL for seven years.  For this reason and more, the SL Enquirer applauds ITA’s accomplishments, and offer our unconditional support in insuring that Club Lion remains a successful SL establishment. To ITA and the Club Lion staff, here is to another seven years in SL!

Located on the coasts of Adore is a place called Friendship Harbor Estates. It is a cozy oceanfront community with a friendly feel. Owned and operated by Nikki Miami (nikki.tryce) and Braxton Miami it is currently home to 7 families with room for plenty more.  If you are house hunting or looking to relocate, there are apartment, townhouses and boat houses available.
Created with love and care Friendship Harbor Estates is not just another community on the grid. It is much more than that. Nikki and Braxton’s vision was to make it a home for residents with growing families. Activities include lots of family fun with a pool, a skating rink, park, Movie Theater and a small beach. The SLE caught up with Nikki to learn more about what makes Friendship Harbor Estates a unique community.

Interview with Nikki Miami

SLE: Ever great idea starts with a little inspiration. What inspired you to create Friendship Harbor Estates?

Nikki: I grew up on the coast of Maine with beautiful ocean views, so I wanted to recreate such a beautiful place in second life.

SLE: What makes this community unique compared to other communities in Second Life?
Nikki: At Friendship Harbor, you are more than a tenant to us, you are our friends, our neighbors, and will feel like part of our family. We truly care for one another.

SLE: Having something to do in a community setting is very important. What type of activities do you offer residents and their families?
Nikki: We have two beautiful parks, a roller skating rink, Movie Theater, public swimming pool, a public beach, and restaurants.

SLE: Do you have property for rent? If so, who should visitors contact for a tour and information on renting?
Nikki: Yes we have a great variety of family homes, as well as apartments and beach front homes. If interested please contact Braxton Miami, Chesneyhaven, or me for information or a tour anytime.

SLE:  Family RP and child avatars are welcome in this community. How do you ensure it is a safe environment for them?
Nikki: We have managers that monitor the sims when we are not available so someone is here to keep an eye on visitors almost all the time. When someone new appears on the sim, we are very quick to approach them and ensure they are respectful while visiting.

SLE: Jobs are important in SL for those who would like to maintain a certain lifestyle, as well as role play a provider for their family. Do you have community jobs available to residents of Friendship Harbor Resort?
Nikki: We have many role play positions and although we do not pay for people to play the positions, we do allow a fee to be charged for services such as our medical center offers the opportunity for role playing a Doctor and charging for services.

SLE: Is there any other information you would like to share with our readers?
Nikki: Yes, if you’re looking for a peaceful, beautiful role play community, to enjoy your second life, we hope you will consider Friendship Harbor Estates, it’s such a beautiful place to live your Second life.

Linden Lab confirms project name for new virtual experience platform

Project Sansar is the internal code name Linden Lab has been using for the new platform, and they plan to use the name externally in its early stages (like the invite-only alpha they begin this summer). However, this is just the project name, and LL anticipate changing it prior to launching the platform to everyone.

This twitter was tweeted on the 5th of May 2015.

Celebratig Cinco de Mayo in Second Life- Debby Sharma Reporting...

Photograph Credits: Visitrenotahoe.com
After the Mexican American War and the Reform War, the Mexican Treasury was nearly bankrupt, Banito Juarez, the then Mexican President issued a moratorium to suspend all foreign debts for two years. In response Britain and Spain negotiated with Mexico and withdrew their naval forces. However, France was then ruled by Napoleon III, saw it as an opportunity for a Second Mexican Empire. In the late 1861, the well-equipped French fleet won at Veracruz making the President retreat. Moving on to Mexico City, the strong 6000 French army was a defeated by 2000 ill-equipped Mexican army on May 5th, 1862 at Puebla.

If You Could have anything in Second Life, What would It be?- Nena Dreadlow Reporting

That is the question that I went around second life asking “If you could have anything on Second Life What would it be? The answer will surprise you. For me when I hear that question I think maybe bigger land or better skins, maybe even a new outfit? But, surprisingly those are not the answers that I got; five residents where nice enough to answer this question.

Nena Dreadlow: If you could have anything in sl what would it be?

Muse Monigal- “We’ll I’ve been On Second Life since it began and am on my second Character Now , and while support has improved for those who are us joining our community in second life I would like to see more organizations geared towards more hands on help for those that have arrived. We want our community to grow.”

I would have to agree with Muse. There does need to be more Help available for new people arriving in second life. SL has grown so much that there is so much to learn and without any kind of help in world, it’s hard to get around and to learn what to do.

I  asked the same question to Mspink Lips and this is what she had to say:

Mspink Lips-  “I would like a easier way to make money  Some people don’t want to be a stripper or go through a lot of drama. Maybe you can earn money by going through a loyal administration and not by just a random person who you won’t know if it is a scam or not”

MsPink has just started playing but luckily she has a  friend who has played a few years helping her.   I remember when I first started playing sl and I had no idea how to even get a job. If there is someone who could have helped me like Mspink suggested, it would have been a lot easier

Next to answer the question was Kat ( dawn nite) and she said,  “ I would like a way sl can verify someone’s real life age and gender. I want to go to someone’s profile and be able to tell who I am talking to and not worry that I’m is talking to someone other than I  think”

Kat has had problems in the past with this as I’m sure a lot of people have. I never have thought about this before but I think if there was a way to make sure you are talking to who they say they are then it would be better then knowing right away then finding out later. There is a term for people who aren’t who they say they are; catfish.

While doing this poll I  went to a hair store and talked to a few people there.

Harlon Mongtomery says, “I think that the type of clubs are limited on sl”.

Harlon wants to be able to search for a club and the type of music and then go to that location and be able to hear that type of music he likes and not go there and hear something different”

I know that I’ve run into that problem before where you go and look for a music genre and then you get to that club and they are not playing the music as advertised.  They should stick to what they said so visitors can enjoy the music that you love.

Vivian Klees was the last person I asked and she said “ She wants better Region crossing Vehicles  and avatar crossing  regions on the main land.  This needs to be worked on and the current physics engine needs to be upgraded for a better gaming experience”

All the SL residents I polled gave great answers to think about. playing Second Life isn’t just about the items people buy or what they have.  SL is made up of so much more.  Things that can be changed by just talking about them is a chance that Second Life can be bigger and better than before.  Don’t stop talking about what can make your SL experience better and continue to explore and learn about new ways to better improve your world.

Touring Historical Landmarks in SL- CeciliaRosalie Reporting…

I’ve been in Second Life for three years  and recently felt an impulse to research second life’s  historical regions. In this article we are going to travel back in time to the first years of SL. If I was asked to give a different tittle to this topic, It would be “A virtual nostos”.
My main resource for this task was the SL’s historical museum, which provided me with valuable information.

Second life  opened its doors to the first residents in 2002-2003.  It was named LindenWorld and then it was renamed to Second Life. At this time the grid was made up of 16 regions. Da boom, the first sim created. For most it holds a reference to the Big Bang theory conception of the virtual world. Da boom is a nice water front area with a lot to see and discover. I personally enjoyed the view of the marina and Lindens Playground. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Da%20Boom/128/128/2

As I mentioned the first second life resident, I was curious to see her first home.  This lovely mansion was originally built by Steller Sunshine way back during the Alpha (early, early testing) days of Second Life.

All other builds created during Alpha were deleted except for the Mansion and another build by Steller which was a cabin, her first home; The mansion which resides in Clementina, was given by Steller to the Linden's to preserve it for the cross over from Alpha to Beta testing. The mansion was home to Steller through-out the Alpha testing phases, and was the location for many of the first parties in Second Life and other memorable events. With its beautiful view, great architecture, fantastic use of prims, and friendly environment, this mansion still stands as one of the great historical builds in Second Life. You can visit it here http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Clementina/189/122/62

The Ivory Tower of Primitives at Natoma, is anoher historical locations. It is actually a library where you can find out more about SL’s building system. Useful tutorials and building lessons will give you a start if you are interested in building. Of course today we build with mesh so prims seem a bit obsolete but primitives were the raw material our virtual world was once built on so anyone who would like to start learning the basics in creating stuff should start from there. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Natoma/204/166/28

Moving on my journey to SL’s historical locations I stopped by Abbotts Airport, which is the oldest of its kind and well-known of the high-quality planes and other aircrafts.  It is a safe place for new comers to visit after the welcome area. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Abbotts/96/212/27

My next stop was the first freebie shop on the grid since 2004. YadNi s Junkyard is a paradise for newbies, it offer a variety of high-quality stuff from clothes to weapons. They also have a free learning area for new residents who want to make their first steps. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Leda/214/25/53

I’ve been running around many historical places until this final presentation. During my journey I always had a feeling that something is missing… and then … It was there, A Castle.  Blackmoor Castle’s construction started in early September 04’ and is still on going. Research was performed on various RL castles. Blackmoor draws some exterior influences from Cinderella's Disney World Castle. So, Let the fairy tale journey begin!!! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Stillman/27/191/59

I hope you enjoyed your tour of historical destinations in Second Life. Learning the history behind Second Life and being able to go back in time and see how things once where gives us a better perspective of how far we have come in the virtual world.

So, if you'd like to check the works of some amazing photographers in SL, and maybe acquire some of them and help the efforts of Relay For Life of SL, go visit Hope Haven Heroes Gallery during this May, and join us for the opening party.

Visions of Hope is hosted by Hope Haven Heroes. Hope Haven is where the survivors and caregivers support groups meet. Hope Haven Heroes is the RFL of SL team that represents it (more info on Hope Haven support groups at the gallery).

*Note: The official opening is set to May 3rd, but there will be a soft opening on May 1st for the press and for those who would like to visit the gallery before the auction starts.
