2015 Thanksgiving in Second Life- Debby Sharma Reporting...

Thanksgiving Day is a day to give thanks for the blessing of the harvest and the preceding year.
It is a National Holiday in Canada and the United States. In Canada it is celebrated on the second Monday of October, while in the United States, it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Apart from Canada and the United States, it is observed in Liberia [1st Thursday in November], Grenada, Saint Lucia [1st Monday in October], Norfolk Island (Australia) [Last Wednesday in November], Puerto Rico, Leiden, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany [early October as Erntedankfest] and Japan [November 23rd as Labor Thanksgiving Day]. Being a secular festival, it is also celebrated by a few who follow Judaism.
The origin of the festival in the United States has been debated upon for decades. The debate is often confused between the Thanksgiving Service and Thanksgiving Holiday Celebration. Some claim that the Thanksgiving religious service was celebrated by the Spanish on September 8th, 1565 in Saint Augustine, Florida- which was codified in the founding charter of Berkeley Hundred in Charles City County, Virginia in 1619.
Others believe that the true origin came from England, when the Pilgrims and Puritans emigrated in 1620s and 1630s who followed a tradition of Days of Fasting and Thanksgiving for the providence. However, later in December 26th, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a joint resolution of Congress changing the national Thanksgiving Day from Last Thursday in November to the Fourth Thursday.

In United Kingdom, the harvest festival of Thanksgiving does not have an official date. It is observed on or near the Sunday of the harvest moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox.
This secular festival is celebrated with singing, praying and decorating baskets of food and fruit to celebrate a successful harvest. The collections of food are usually held which are later given to local charities to help the homeless and needy.  Harvest Dinners and parades are common in Germany. In some places family dinners are common.
In Second Life, residents celebrate Thanksgiving either by partying at clubs, participating in hunts,  dressing up like a turkey, gifting each other and participating in an interactive parade among other things. Here are a few landmarks and events you would not like to miss on Thanksgiving Day.

About Halloween and How it is Observed Around the World and in Second Life- Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

October is the time of year when the leaves begin to change into vibrant colors and the warm summer air cools down into a new season--if you are in a place that experiences 4 seasons. It is also the month when Halloween is observed. Many countries celebrate Halloween, but it is most popular in the United States and Canada. Interestingly enough, trick-or tricking actually originated in Ireland.

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays ever since I was a kid. Loads of candy, of course, being the driving force to celebrate. I still like to dress up in crazy costumes and go to parties or be the one handing candy out while checking out the various costumes people come up with theses based on pop culture.

This holiday began as an Ancient Celtic Festival when the people would wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off ghosts. Along the line it changed names  from All Hallow’s Eve to the present-day “Halloween.” Today it is observed in a variety of ways around the world. For example, the US and Canada decorate and celebrate with  pumpkins, Jack O’ Lantern carvings, corn stalks, Halloween Parties, and Trick- or treating.

In China, Teng Chieh is observed by placing food and water in front of photographs of departed family members along with lanterns and bonfires to help light the path for the spirits to roam. Buddhists create boats made out of paper and light them on fire in the water--both as a remembrance of those who have died as well as to free the spirits so they may ascend to heaven.

Mexico and Latin America celebrates “El Dia de los Muertos,” translated into English is means the day of the dead. It is a joyous celebration that lasts three days from October 31st to All Souls Day on November 2nd. Observers spend this time constructing altars decorated with flowers, candy, foods, drinks, candles and photographs in honor of family and friends who have passed on. Feasts, parades, and even picnics in cemeteries take place.

As you can see Halloween isn’t all about candy and dressing up in your favorite characters and partying with friends. To many cultures it is about honoring the dead and remembering them in various ways.

As soon as October 1st comes around in Second Life, Halloween becomes the focus as avatars begin to decorate, look for the coolest costumes and figure out where the Halloween parties are. You can participate in themed hunts, haunted house tours, costume parties, and contests.

Here are a few fun places I found  across the grid to get you ready for Halloween:

Alternative Interactive Fun in SL-Becca Drascol Reporting

With so many things to do in SL I decided to look at the various interactive options in our virtual lives. Second Life is full of clubs in various genres such as rock, indie, pop, country or venues focusing on Role play or adult entertainment. But that isn’t all to do in Second Life.
While clubs are usually a good place to meet new people or hang out and listen to good tunes with friends.  Usually I'm out watching my own avatar dance with my hubby's avi,  yet there's so much more we can do in SL.  I decided to explore those various things and share them with you.

Gold, Fish & Trivia Hunt
For some good old fashioned fun there's Linden Gold Hunt which offers both fishing and coin hunting. Not only do both games offer a lot of fun but also a way to make some extra linden. Simple and easy to play, a player need only get a free fishing rod to fish, or to grab a Gold Hunt hud in order to find coin locations. With a large community of players who actively fish and coin hunt daily, you're sure to meet new people and possibly make new friends as well find many interesting venues along the way. Also somewhat newer to LGH is Trivia Hunt. For those of us who love a good round or more of trivia you can enjoy that via the LGH community as well. It's as simple as finding venues that have a trivia hunt ball and go play.

Xuna's Rock Dance Club and Mall (fish hunt)
With all LGH games you gain a virtual balance which is able to be exchanged to your linden balance when you have earned at least $1.00 in LGH balance. For land owners there's the ability to place coins for Gold Hunt and buoys for Fish Hunt to bring people to your land and is a fun way to not only gain traffic for your land but help the LGH (Linden Gold Hunt) community thrive and grow.

LGH(Linden Gold Hunt Headquarters)

Venues With A Variety
Some venues such as Rosetta Stone have Gold Hunt and also have horse riding in a very beautiful setting that is peaceful and relaxing. A place to kick back and enjoy the scenery or if you so wished to grab a horse and ride around while collecting coins.

Rosetta Stone (horse riding/gold hunt)
Other venues such as mine and my husband's, Secret Erotic Desires, have a bit of everything. We have Gold & Fish Hunt, as well as Skippo. Relax with a few friends and play cards. And aside from interactive fun we have themed events, dancers and other adult entertainment.

Secret Erotic Desires
For some card gaming, bowling or 7seas fishing I found a lovely venue called Fallen's Games & Entertainment Paradise. The sim is done eloquently with a getaway vacation look which I found quite nice. Fallen's also features a few interactive games I personally had not as of yet seen in SL, such as Sparkle, SLictionary and En Garde. Definitely a nice non-skill gaming place to stop by a while and just enjoy.

Fallen's Games & Entertainment Paradise (mixed non skilled gaming)

With so many things within SL one should never feel afraid to venture out and see what interactive fun you just may find. Perhaps it was by accident you found a bit of something different, or perhaps it was simply luck or referred by a friend. But with SL's users are able to create our virtual world, with that a bit of real life comes in many forms.
My hubby and I had some interactive fun on this little journey and some relaxation in some wonderful venues along the way.

What are you doing in Second Life? There are so many possibilities.  I hope you go out and enjoy some interactive fun today.

AVIE POLL: Top Places To Have Fun in Second Life- LadyLoveDr Reporting

Looking for someplace to go and have fun while in-game?  I set out and hit the roads of Second Life looking for citizens to poll with the famous question, "Where in SL do you love to go when you're looking to have fun?".  The number one response was "Depends on what your idea of fun is".  This survey really opened my eyes to how much content Second Life really has in it!  There were a few places that got mentioned multiple times so I went on a few road trips to experience them for myself.  They are listed below:

Clubbing:

            Black Horse Country

If you're looking to shake your honky-tonk badonkadonk in Second Life, pull on your dancin' boots and head to Black Horse Country. Set in nice log building, the club houses an enormous dance floor where line dancers strut their stuff in between trips to the bar for amazing drinks. No matter what time you're looking for some boot-skootin-boogie you can count on Black Horse Country to have a Live DJ 24/7.  While you're there, be sure to pick up a free cowboy hat and some shirts!

The Arts:

            Multi Media Arts Center

The Multi Media Arts Center is a great place to find all your media needs.  Relax  in the Jazz Club, Underground, or Cabaret Carolotta.  Once you get your fill of these head on upstairs to have a laugh in the Comedy Link Laugh Club.  While your up there stop in and check out their cinema and World Stage!  There's plenty to do here when it comes to entertainment.  Invite a few of your friends and enjoy the  word scramble with a $2 L reward.
