New Year Resolutions: Happy 2014 – Glossom Resident Reporting…

"Here's to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old; here's to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold." -- Anonymous

New Year, New Life! To not jinx the new year and being true to tradition, every end of the year we strictly follow a ritual at the stroke of midnight to enter the New Year on the right foot: wearing something white or blue or wearing something new, jumping on the chair, eating raisins or lentils, jumping from a bridge or swimming on cold waters to wash away the evil, just to name a few. These rituals are part of cultural and religious beliefs, to each country their own.

What would you like 2014 to bring you? The arrival of a new year brings high hopes and prospects of a better life and of new opportunities. It is time to reflect on ones actions and behaviors in the past year and to make promises of positive changes in one’s life.  Without further ado, let’s get a sheet of paper and pen and wisely note down this year’s resolutions, hopefully achievable ones. With a little luck we will not fall into old habits.

SLE went around Second Life asking residents what are their New Year resolutions?

Thank you all for participating.

Celebrating 2014 in Second Life- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

On December 31st, 60 seconds before midnight EST the famous Time Square  ball will begin making it’s 141 foot descent  on New York City’s Time square.  This tradition was first organized by Adolph Ochs; owner of The New York Times Newspaper on December 31, 1907.

Every year besides the wartime blackouts in 1942-43, the streets of  Manhattan, New York are filled in every direction with onlookers waiting to ring in the New Year with confetti, cheers, kisses, proposals and resolutions. For many it is a reflection of 2013 and what they can do to make 2014 better. Hopeful eyes fill with tears as they spread the emotions of change and celebrate with the world.

In Second Life, residents have the opportunity to stand side by side with friends from around the world as the ball drops upon the hour like a domino effect in the different time zones.  Sims across the grid are prepared to ring in the new year with glitzy parties, live music and events that will attract thousands. Whether you have plans in real life or unsure what to do, the parties will ripple across Second Life!

Here are some places around the grid that are celebrating the New Year in Second Life style.

Ring in the New Year with Bonaire Estates! December 31st from 7-9:30 pm SLT

You are cordially invited to join Bonaire Estates at their New Year’s Eve Party on Tuesday, Dec. 31st at the Caribbean Harbor Club! We will be partying from 7:00 p.m. SLT to 9:30 p.m. SLT.
Since there are so many time zones represented in Second Life, we decided to schedule the party around the Eastern time zone midnight celebration. This wonderful venue has been decorated for Christmas, but now we have added party decorations for ringing in 2014!

You must come by and see the amazing ball drop that Henri DeCuir of Celebrations Fireworks created, and that we have purchased and put up at the club. It will be set to count down to midnight at 9:00 p.m. SLT. We also will have party hats with fireworks for everyone. There will be balloons and champagne, and cake!

The highlight of the evening will be live performances by two wonderful singers. First, we are honored to have the smooth, baritone voice of HammerFla Magic from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Then, Clarice Karu will grace the stage from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Bring your dancing shoes, dress up to the nines in your best formal wear, and ring in the New Year with Bonaire Estates!

We look forward to seeing you there! Sending the limo: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bonaire%20CountryClub%20Parkway/133/66/23

Sights and Famous Landmarks in Second Life America- Piers Diesel Reporting...

Many have probably visited  one or several American landmarks in Real Life so it is important for second Life creators to not only get these locations authentically replicating the Real Life one but to also incorporate entertainment to keep people coming back.

I have found 5 landmarks which not only keep you entertained while on the sim but also resemble the Real Life landmarks in the US.

Stalkers in Second Life: Welcome to the Dark Side – Glossom Resident reporting…

A few years ago we incredulously witnessed the news of a SL romance ending in real life stalking, attempt kidnapping and crime of virtual passion. Cases like this are increasingly recurrent.

In Second Life stalkers see their art made easier with more ways to torment people and with more amenities to hide behind the screen, a supposedly safe and consequence-free place to impetuously pour out their frustrations on others, therefore, exacerbating their actions.

A Virtual Christmas Tale – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Once upon a time, in a virtual virtual world, and on a cold and snowy winter day there was a young Nicolas who, driven by sadness to observe such poverty around him, threw a bag of gold and silver through an open window to feed and to warm up the poorest ones’ bones. The streets were filled with laughter and happiness as Nicolas shouted “It is in giving that we receive”, in perfect synchrony with the sound of coins rattling on the streets.

For spreading good fortune and joy, Nicolas came to be known as Saint Nick. With a lump of coal for the price of gold and a nice piece of the finest meat (turkey) unreachable before, inhabitants gathered together around a warm fire for supper and fed their poor stomachs in celebration to the generosity of a young man. It was an unforgettable day whose story and joyful spirit passed on from generation to generation, the day of the masses, gatherings of the dear ones and the day of giving.

Looking back to 2004 when I was in The SIMS Online and thought it would be a neat idea to create a newspaper website for my circle of friends, never in a million years would I have thought that my work  and the work of a full blown Team of writers would be recognized as the most favorite SL Media Source in Second Life but here we are!

Social Anxiety Disorder: How Does Second Life Help Overcome This Anxiety? – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Shyness, anxiety, increased heart rate, shortness of breath, sweating, blushing, trembling hands, dry mouth, panic attacks, difficulty to speak and stuttering are very familiar symptoms to the worldwide community that suffers from Social Anxiety Disorder, also known as Social Phobia. The intensity of the symptoms varies from individual to individual with varying degrees of anxiety.

Social Anxiety is triggered by past traumatizing experiences of any nature, to name a few, bullying at school, aggression suffered in childhood and adolescence, prolonged illness or even as a consequence of  an economical crisis that generates unemployment thus leading to depressive states and social isolation, among others.

Give This Season to Second Life's Top Trusted Charities-Tea Couturier Reporting...

Charities in Second Life(c) help create awareness on a
global scale and raise money for real life organizations. In SL, there are multiple events and fundraisers that can be found. It is volunteers who help in the fight for a worthy cause while providing special events and activities to residents in the virtual world.

However, just like in real life is can be hard to find the right charities which really help the causes they are working for. Also, If we donate, we want to know where the money is going directly too. I highlighted a few trustworthy charities that are raising not only money but awareness in SL while helping people around the world.

 CHARMED CHARITIES
This charity raises money to help provide care and support for approximately 100 children in Awassa, Ethiopia, most who have been orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. The children are given the necessary nutrition, clothing, housing, education, and counseling required for a healthy upbringing, and in-turn, the opportunity to become a self-reliant and active member of the Awassa community. It focuses on the areas of
1.    Housing
2.    Education
3.    Health
4.    Counselling Support
5.    New Children Settle in
6.    Pre School Service

THE STATION; An Original Floating Club on a Steampunk Sim- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Steampunk is a 19th century Victorian or wild west culture depicting a post apocalyptic future.  It is based on fantasy and a science fiction hybrid sub-genre that features machines powered by steam, like spring propelled hot air balloons, steam engine trains, trolleys and other mechanical vehicles. Steampunk can also be associated with an artistic style in pseudo- Victorian fashion that incorporates mechanical parts, top hats, boots, monocles, pocket watches and digital gadgets.
