Romancing Bogart’s – Living History at Frank’s - “Seersha Heart

I made the mistake of writing that Bogart’s had closed in Ballrooms : Where the Romance Lives last week.  My error was in using an old landmark and not following up.  I confess that when I thought Bogart’s had gone, I felt very sad and not on my game.  Imagine my surprise, my embarrassment and my sheer delight at learning Bogart’s was alive and well.  Only shifted a bit on the grid to Franks Place region. It is all too easy to assume that a club is “gone” since many clubs do come and go in SL.  Bogart’s is part of something much bigger, an SL Icon, Frank’s. Caught with my pants down on this one, I sincerely apologize for writing that Bogart’s had closed.  As you may read here, Frank’s is a place that grows, it doesn’t close.

When I first moved to SL a few years ago, I loved to dress up in gowns.  Most of the formal clubs I visited where couples oriented at that time. I wanted to have a place go where I would feel comfortable visiting as a single person.  Of course, I wanted to wear a gown! At this point in my SL life, I would wear a gown everywhere and I mean everywhere! Searching through destinations I found the club Bogart’s and the name instantly caught my eye.  Changing from one gown to another, I set off to see what Bogart’s club looked like and the crowd that hung out there for the dancing. The landing point is a short stroll from the entrance and there are upscale shops along the walk.  I crossed the small park and looked up at the marquee “BOGART’S”. Going inside I was greeted by a hostess very stylishly. She called me by my surname and pointed out the upcoming schedule and the chilled champagne. Walking deeper into the club the room opens, the ceiling several meters above my head.  The stage is large and colorful. I would later learn that the appearance periodically changes. The room is inviting in rich reds and golds throughout.
I have had the pleasure of meeting people at Bogart’s.  Both men and women appear well dressed and ready to dance providing an opportunity to meet new people.  I’ve attended some very enjoyable events over the years. In 2016 the Sl Enquirer featured Bogarts as one of the top five SL date locations sharing…
“This SL long running classic has shopping and a park on your walk to the club.  Dress is cocktail to formal.  You land down the block from the club and walk up to the dramatic facade of the building.  The marquee proudly proclaims, “Romance is in the Air” and it most certainly is in Bogarts.  Walking inside the first set of doors, scheduled activities are listed to your left by the elevator.  Going further inside to the main room it has the feeling of an elegant theatre with high ceilings and a stage with ornate golden trim at one side.

The color scheme is rich reds and golds throughout.  You will be greeted as “Mr.” or “Ms.” by what I feel are the best hosts and hostesses in SL.  They make you feel welcome and have that breezy air about that may be best described as elegant fun.  The DJs are equally top notch.  Requests are played quickly and as a dedication or a request.  Imagine requesting a romantic Norah Jones song and dancing with your date.”
Amazingly Bogart’s has not strayed from this level of style and service.  I remember fondly when chatting Huckleberry Hax about various dating locations in SL.  We spoke of a couple of different stops and then Huck gave me a quote that truly fits; “Good old Bogart’s”

I could not have phrased it better or more succinctly.  Maybe you will sit down at one of the cozy tables off the dance floor and get to know someone new.  I have met many people at Bogart’s and shared a dance or two with some new-found friends. Bogart’s is not a ‘hookup’ joint, though I suspect there are hookups [it IS SL], it is a place you return to many times.  It is the place I fell in love with the melodic sound of Nora Jones as well as older rat pack jazz favorites. Bogart’s is part of the most popular jazz complexes in SL Frank’s.

Frank’s began as a jazz club for with a formal dress code.  These days Frank’s has expanded to five regions and become an entire entertainment complex.  The formal dance and jazz club has bloomed into more clubs and shopping.  Elegant and welcoming Bogart’s is a top place to take a date.
Fly me to the moon; Let me play among the stars; Let me see what spring is like; On a-Jupiter and Mars…”

SPOTLIGHT on KyrinCorvus- A DJ, Enforcer and Security.- Lanai Jarrico Reporting

If you can think it , chances are it is in Second Life. That is the great thing about this amazing virtual world. You can do or be whatever you want or express your style, skills and curiosity.  For me it has always involved virtual world media but I also love to explore and have fun when I am not in search of the next topic to post in The SL Enquirer. Many times I find inspiration directly from activites I get involved in. Recently, I was a guest on The Pamela Live Show discussing SLE and thought it would be a great idea to give a Spotlight Feature to an audience member.

Before the show I set out a raffle jar on the stage and at the end, a winner was drawn.  You don’t have to own a business to be the subject of an SLE interview. Everyone in Second Life has a story. That is was makes Second Life a neverending source for news. KyrinCorvus was the winner of The SL Enquirer Spotlight feature that night. He is a DJ at mOBSCENE, the Enforcer in Diablos Legion (MC) Motorcycle Club and also happens to be security for the Pamela Live show.

Interview with KyrinCorvus

Lanai: How did you discover Second Life?
KyrinCorvus: I was looking for a new alternative way to chat and meet people compared to the choices at the time. I didn’t much like Second Life at first but came back a year ago and rather enjoy it

Lanai: I’ve hear that from a few people. A Second look brings more clarity. Would you consider Second Life a game or an extension of your real life?
KyrinCorvus:  Second life to me is an extension to real life because it is a way I can spend time with the people I care about the most.

Lanai: What type of things are you involved with in SL?
KyrinCorvus: I am the Dj Manager @ the mOBSCENE,  Enforcer @DLMC, Im learning how to Build motorcycles. Along with many other things

Lanai: You are a busy man. Can you tell our readers about The mOBSCENE?
The mOBSCENE was created by real life family members Raiven (tricialyn) and Halen (schminke) as well as myself, after we decided we wanted a club where we could all hang out and work in Second Life together. Raiven likes to dance, I like to DJ, and Halen likes to ensure operations run smoothly, so we work together incredibly well. The mOBSCENE is a mixture of gothic style, rock music, and a grunge atmosphere, which when combined has created a very unique, alternative hangout for all of us, and anyone else who has had trouble "fitting in" in Second Life.

Lanai: Having family working together in SL must make for interesting conversation at family functions lol. It seems to work well for you. So KyrinCorvus, you are also involved with a Motorcycle Club, can you tell me about it?

KyrinCorvus: I am theEnforcer @Diablos Legion MC, We are a small Group founded by jimmiejax, the president is Cowboy Sunny and the vice president is Caramena , we are looking for members to join our MC so message them with questions.

I’ve hang out at MCs before. I have to say it is like one big family. The atmosphere is more involved in conversation and activitives than the usual music venues with regulars.  Another thing I think is so great is the charity work involved in the MC community. Many Motorcycle Clubs do charity work in Second Life, what causes does your MC support?

KyrinCorvus:  Being a relatively new member we do support all charities but haven't been working with any at this time.

Lanai: When you do, let me know I think it is a great community services. What other things are you involved in on the grid?

KyrinCorvus: I am security for the Pamela Live show,  an advisor for JPAW Radio, and a layout designer for Infinity Magazine, I have my irons in a lot of fires

Wow, working for a magazine alone can be demanding.  I wish you well in all you aspire to do in Second Life. Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers as we look ahead to 2017?

KyrinCorvus: I am working on opening up a Motorcycle Shop.  (no grand opening as of yet). I would like to thank Lanai Jarrico for this opportunity and wishes of luck in 2017.

THIS JUST IN! Linden Labs Appears To Have Upped Their Game with Respect to Music Copyright Infringement.

NOTICE FROM GLOBAL DJ FEDERATION

LL adheres to the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) http://secondlife.com/corporate/dmca.php and have begun sending representatives out to clubs in SL looking for DJ's that appear to be playing stolen music (napster, youtube etc.)

They are looking specifically for DJ's that are playing OBVIOUSLY stolen music.

We all like being able to fulfill requests, but don't put both yourself and the club at risk.  If you don't know how to change the title of a track, ask for Help. It's not hard to do, so stop being lazy and clean up your tracks!  If all else fails, DON'T PLAY THE TRACK!!

If an infringement violation is filed against any one DJ, both the DJ and the owner(s) of the stream allowing the music to be played are subject to a $500.00 USD fine.  Accounts that are unable to cover the cost of the fine are simply frozen until they can.

If you download music, please ensure that it is LEGAL, or at the very least, ensure that tracks are LABELED CORRECTLY.  (i.e. no "with lyrics")

DJ's that are currently including illegal/mislabeled tracks are now putting both the RUBBER ROOM and themselves at risk.  Therefore, we cannot afford to send out warnings to individual staff members, but will instead immediately remove offenders from staff.  It's nothing personal.

Harsh, but there's not much else that we can do.

Spotlight on DJ Sofie Knoller-Exonar (sofie.knoller) – CeciliaRosalie Reporting..

Sofie Knoller – Exonar first joined SL in 2007 by chance while she was researching for alternative networking methods. Since then she has tried different career moves as she is very energetic and full of innovative ideas. She has been a successful model in the past, however, as she states being a DJ was always her ambition. She has a wide range of genre including Arabic and Egyptian tunes. Let’s see what Sofie has to share with us.

Interview with Sofie Knoller Exonar
Cecilia: Hello Sofie thank you for your time. Let’s start by answering a few questions about yourself so we know who you are.
SOFIE: You are very welcome! I am doing great. I hope you do too!
Cecilia: When did you first join Second Life?
SOFIE: I started SL late 2007. I stumbled upon it while doing some research on online networking methods.

Cecilia: What careers did you follow before you discovered your passion for music?
SOFIE: I was a hostess and then I did some modeling at Calamity haute and Arai agencies.

Cecilia: That is Great! When did you started feeling that is time for a change and why did you pick a DJ career?
SOFIE: I started DJing early 2008 at an Arabic venue that no longer is around. It was quite an accomplishment for me. It opened a whole new world of opportunities. I always admired DJs and their work and to be one has been a dream come true! I didn't really replace modeling with DJing I do all sorts of things on SL as much as my time allows. In fact I recently joined MVW modeling academy to brush up on my skills and increase my opportunities and I'm still a model for Solo Evane agency.
I first started to DJ to provide Arabic entertainment mainly in a world where the Arab culture hardly existed and I wanted to introduce it to Second life in the form of music but it has opened a whole new world for me introduced me to new music from all over the world.  Can't deny it also provides nicely for my shopping addiction :)
Cecilia: When was your first time DJING? How did you felt at that moment tell us about your experience at that time.
SOFIE: I was too excited and nervous at the same time! but after a few songs I totally got in the mood and got really calm and started to really have fun.

Cecilia: Sofie, how would you describe yourself?
SOFIE: I'm a very dedicated person who strives to perfect anything I do and this applies to all my jobs including Djing I'm also a very friendly and outgoing person and I get along easily with people.
Cecilia:  What do you think it takes to be a good DJ?
SOFIE: I think DJs need a good ear and a sense of rhythm also a DJ needs to be very perceptive to what his audience like and I find a good memory an essential perk to a DJ who has regulars. Being a good performer with good audience rapport is definitely a bonus :)
Cecilia: Do you have wide range of genres and what do you prefer most, mixed sets or each set to be represented by one specific genre?
SOFIE: Yes, I have a wide range of genres that I play, ranging from Techno and Trance to Jazz and romantic ballads!  I love being international with my sets and I play songs in several different languages.
I usually use mixed sets to accommodate all kinds of listeners but it really depends on the venue where I'm playing and the general attitude of the audience

Cecilia: Tell our readers where you DJ at the moment so they can come enjoy your sets.
SOFIE: I currently play weekly sets at Habibi Arabic club also at Frank's Elite jazz and BPM club.
Cecilia: How can club owners contact and book you if they are interested? Do you have a manager who makes the arrangements or you are by yourself?
SOFIE: No, they can just drop a note card to Sofie Knoller. I usually answer in less than 24 hrs.

Cecilia: Is there anything else you would like to share with SLE readers?
SOFIE: “Music is the universal language of mankind” I absolutely believe in this and it's very prominent especially here on SL where all boundaries have been crossed and borders don't exist.
