To Mesh or Not to Mesh - Tea Couturier Reporting...

Mesh has taken over the way we dress, live and socialize in SL. However, how is it made and is it hard to do?

If you’re a content creator you probably use the software packages such as Maya or Blender to create your products. However, if that is too advance for you there are kits you can use which allows you to create mesh as a structure for the design or pattern you wish to make. Here are a few businesses that provide this for you.

Architectural Mesh
Wall Mesh with full permissions - ZimberLab Builder's Kit A - Basic
To create walls in SL for a house in mesh will or could be difficult if you do not know how to use the software packages to create mesh but with this kit it cuts out all the stress and helps you begin building your custom dream home or your customers designs.
Mesh Package:
50 extra parts to extend your building possibilities.
All parts match with the parts of the regular set.
The full sloped and pointed walls can also be used to create complete side-face walls with 0.5 Land Impact.

- AO maps applied providing basic shadows.
- UV maps included for accurate texturing.
Textures easy both in-world as in image editor.

Spotlight On SL Fashion Model Nickle Sparrowtree - Jessii2009 Warrhol Reporting

Last Saturday was the debut show organized by Nickle Sparrowtree. This was a special show, which was in honor of World Pride. The show also was a Relay For Life of Second Life fundraising event. Many raved about the show, especially the organization of Nickle. I caught up with Nickle to ask her a few questions about her modeling career and her thoughts on Second Life.

A Quick Guide on What NOT to Wear Once You Have Passed the 2 Month Marker in Second Life- Tea Couturier

Now I am not one to tell people what not to wear and what to wear in SL, however, I do feel I could help give a few pointers about what to avoid wearing to not make yourself look like a noob or one that has not moved along with the fashion times in Second Life.

When you first enter Second Life, your first point of call is the freebie shops. However, once you are a regular and have been in SL for over 3 months. I feel it is time for you to start looking at what you’re wearing and worrying about your appearance. Your appearance can reflect on you and your social life in SL. Remember, first impressions are important.

Vintage Fashion Finds a Home- Jenna Odisark Reporting…

For those into role play or portraying different historical eras you will be excited to find out that there is a new vintage and retro. One of the most difficult areas of doing role play in a vintage time period is to find the proper fashion to wear.

This new endeavor is a partnership with Old Time Prims and 1920's Berlin. Frau Jo Yardley and Mila Edelman have teamed up and are opened a new sim for supplying the retro and role play communities. The name is Old Time Prims.  It is a simple, basic straight to the point name, and one that is known as a place for vintage fashion for some time in Second Life. The new sim is striving to be the ultimate place to shop for vintage and retro clothes and items. They cover pretty much everything between the Victorian era and the 1960s.

Spotlight on ROMANCE COUTURE; A New Elegant and Classy Collection in Second Life©- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

The Fashion Industry in Second Life is on a constant high. If it wasn’t for designers dressing us up, we’d either be left to our own devices of making our own clothes (which can prove disastrous), or walking around with all our business half hanging out like a bunch of cave people. The fact is clothing helps define our styles and personalities. What you wear can tell a lot about you. For example, if you walk around Second Life in scantily clad attire, one might assume you were a streetwalker making lindens up and down that pole. If you are dressed in business attire, one may think you’re a big ballah', high rollin' in the Lindens.  Meet fashion somewhere in the middle and you create a style just your own. It can be an ensemble created by a mixture of designers or you found that one who really knows what you like. Whatever the case may be when it comes to fashion, work it because you own it and remember there is always room for something new.

Speaking of New, Romance Couture is a new store on the Second Life scene with high fashion designed by Eleseren Brianna. You may or may not have heard of her, it all depends if you have been to Inworldz. *Gasp* yes, I mentioned another virtual world but I am no traitor in the least. I’m celebrating the fact that such great talent and eye for design has decided to come back and bring her collection with her to Second Life. I had the pleasure of interviewing Eles and learning more about her and her collection. Be sure to welcome her back to Second Life by stopping by her store and even picking up an item or two. If you are anything like me and into shiny new things, you will leave with a handful of bags and a smile.

The State of Mesh Clothing in Second Life- Stareyes Galaxy Reporting…

Mesh clothing has taken the grid by storm, since Linden Lab started allowing
mesh uploads over a year ago.

As an apparent answer to their clothing woes,
especially female shoppers have made it a necessity for designers to change
over to mesh completely, or at least to open sections of mesh clothing in their
stores. However, despite its seemingly great benefits, mesh does not completely
solve all problems of traditional Second Life clothing.

I wore my SLE Media Group tag to interview both customers and designers of mesh inworld.

SL Newser: News and Commentary: Real-Life News Article on Avatar Clothing Isn't News- Bixyl Shuftan Reporting...

This is news? At least that's what I was thinking when I first heard of the study, featured in an ABC article (and other sources). Canadian researchers "stalked through" Second Life observing over four hundred avatars "for several weeks." Their conclusion: females wear less clothing.

"Well DUH! Thank you Captain Obvious."

FASHION: Pimp Your Avatar - Pandora Drezelan Reporting...

Creating Your Second Life Avatar

When you first sign up for Second Life you will have a choice of standard avatars to choose from. Let’s assume that you choose a human avatar and then go on to entering the virtual world of Second Life.
Your ‘virtual you’ will be very basic and NOOBY to begin with and it is up to you to make your avatar look the way you want it to and to improve it’s style therefore making it unique.
I have seen many avatars in Second Life who despite the fact that they are years older than me still have a NOOBY appearance and clearly have done little or nothing to improve the appearance of their avatar.
Personally it doesn’t bother me if someone wants to live their entire Second Life as a NOOB however this is my set of guidelines of changes that people can make to their avatar if they wish to.
Not everyone can afford to spend real life money in Second Life and I will address that also for those of you who need a few freebies.

An Introduction to Mesh Clothing...Jaded Exonar Reporting...

If you are a new fan of mesh clothing, you may have received the dreaded I.M, ‘You do know you’re naked, right?’. No! Well, to some, I’m afraid we are!

“My first mesh dress was beautiful. I had chosen the size, ensured it fitted perfectly to my shape, and walked confidently into a party in a PG zone. I can’t recall how many messages I was sent, but they began to ping only seconds after my ‘glamorous’ entrance. One kindonlooker even sent me a screenshot – I hang my head with pure embarrassment to admit that I was indeed, not only naked, but waving a huge coloured ball around in my hand like a drunken party crasher! “ Rhiana (Who would prefer to be mentioned by her first name only) laughs as she shares this with me, immaculately dressed in a mesh business suit, I might add!
The truth is, despite this happening some time ago, it is still a concern to many in SL. There are no requirements regarding the modesty layers, if any, to be included with mesh items, so it is up to us to guard against it! There are a few ways to do this. First, we need to know why this is happening to us!

Why am I naked?
Well, different viewers have different levels of features on offer. Some have the ability to see mesh, and others simply do not. I’ve created a fairly comprehensive list of mesh enabled viewers here, along with some useful features.

Another thing to remember is that some viewers will not view the alpha layers either! So perhaps adding a layer of underwear to your outfit is advisable!

In the Know with Clothing Designer Caelia Bellic

There are many things I like to do in-world, but two that stand out are perform and find hot clothes to wear. As a part of the group Unity Productions, I'm able to do both in our latest production, The Misfits. Not only do I get to dance and strut my stuff on the stage, but I'm also able to wear the grunge-tastic wares of clothing designer Caelia Bellic, owner of Cae.B designs. I was a fan of Cae's clothing before the production, and have spent time with a friend going to Cae's mainstore [slurl] and waxing philosophically about the artistry of Cae's designs. How much do I dig Cae's grunge couture? There is a folder in my invy marked "ALL CAE.B." And it's stocked!

As a lover of Caelia Bellic's clothing, I sought her out to ask a few questions about what inspires her to design her wares...among other things. And she graciously replied...

The Xues Do Photography and Fashion and MORE at Urban Alley

I love clothes. There. I said it, confessed it. I spend a great deal of time on the grid looking for quality deals and cute clothes--and then finding someone to take a great picture of me while I'm in that hot 'fit. With Candi and Makaveli Xue and their Urban Alley Photo Studio & Main Store, I can get BOTH!

And so can you!
