Stareyes on prairie |
Tombstone is a role-play estate set in the year 1899 that
portrays an anachronistic recreation of the late 19th century
boomtown atmosphere.
Stareyes Galaxy took a coach journey there, to explore the
Wild, Wild West of SL. This is her travel report. I set out with the task of reporting to our Readers the
true state of the West.
In many reports, what I felt a gross exaggeration; the
dangers of the frontier are overplayed, and I felt someone needed to set the
facts straight.
Landing at the welcome center, a greeter is there to
welcome the casual visitor and take her through an orientation, upon which she
will be able to enter the Tombstone proper. My greeter was an Apache woman,
whom, after a first shock, I found very welcoming.
I decided to interview as many people as I could, to get
a feel of the atmosphere, and how things are run in these parts. First, a
rather liberally-dressed young woman, known as Frisco June, led me to Dutch
Annie’s, a local establishment for questionable entertainment. She has been in
Tombstone for two years.

Ub Yifu – RFL Designer Builder-While at the Relay for Life track, DrFran Babcock ran into one of the more interesting builders, Ub Yifu. Going about in his one of a kind avatar, Ub had been busy at work on one of the Relay's designer sims. He talked to DrFran about how he came to Second Life, his work as a 3-D artist, and his build at the Relay.

I work all night, I work all day, to pay the bills I have
to pay
Ain't it sad
And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me
That's too bad
In my dreams I have a plan
If I got me a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball...
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world
A man like that is hard to find but I can't get him off my mind
Ain't it sad
And if he happens to be free I bet he wouldn't fancy me
That's too bad
So I must leave, I'll have to go
To Las Vegas or Monaco
And win a fortune in a game, my life will never be the same...
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world

Not long ago we were celebrating St. Patrick's Day,
jiggling and reeling in an Irish style to the sound of traditional Irish music.
But while outsiders listen to it as exotic and captivating music by the traditional instruments used and the “magic” sounds produced by those instruments, Celtic music transcribes many valuable stories that resume the cultural identity and heritage of the Celtic nations: souls abundant of emotions.
But while outsiders listen to it as exotic and captivating music by the traditional instruments used and the “magic” sounds produced by those instruments, Celtic music transcribes many valuable stories that resume the cultural identity and heritage of the Celtic nations: souls abundant of emotions.
Geographically bordered, this music genre, covering a
spectrum from pure acoustic folk to folk rock, etc, becomes global in this
great little virtual world, bringing communities together to celebrate whatever
occasion to the rhythm of the distinctive sound of bagpipes and the vigorous
drumming. Better than an energy drink, it will make you dance until you fall
off your couch.
To better understand what Celtic music and Connection
Production is we have talked with the owners, Brielle Coronet and Rik Xaris, here
as CCP, who also own Club Catalyst.

Haven’t you ever secretly wished to come across a
virtual millionaire who likes to drop some fat lindens into your account? That
would solve your money troubles for a while but it is not likely to happen. Sadly
lindens don’t fall from the sky and spending all day long walking down the
streets of Second Life looking for some lost coins seems to be a complete waste
of time. So how can we stop being broke in Second Life? When easy money is hard
to get, hard working money seems to be the easiest call.
Imagine what you could have with some extra lindens: renewing
the wardrobe or buying that gorgeous outfit that you have been anxious to get
but can’t afford; giving yourself a complete makeover; refurnishing the house or
getting a king-sized bed for that huge house that you have been sighing for… Now
that I got you motivated, it's time to kick laziness away and to take action on
finding a job.
Here are some tips on how to find a job and, above
all, how to keep it.

What gets under an Avatar’s
skin? When you log in day after day is there something that makes you
cringe?
When you’re exploring Second Life do you have something that
makes you want to just pull your hair?
What irritates people
that play Second Life is the question I went to find out. It seems,
everyone had a similar answer that even I can nod and definitely agree with; Griefers.
I have one right now
that keeps sending me group notices. I can’t decline it. I can’t even block it, and he just repeatedly sends
them. Linden Labs has refused to help even though I’m a premium

Real-life pictures in Second Life © – Stareyes Galaxy reporting ….
In
Second life ©, there is a bifurcation of the attitude to sharing one’s own
real-life (RL) pictures. Many avatars are dead against such a practice, saying
that SL and RL are two separate entities. Then there are others who freely
share their real-life pictures, right on their profile. Furthermore, many design
their avatar appearance to match their real-life looks. I interviewed some
avatars to get behind the reasoning behind the different views of sharing
real-life images.
The
question of the day is “Does sharing real-life pictures enhance the fantasy, or
kill it?” I met Anastasia at MIAMAI main store, where she works as a model. “It depends,” she answered.
SLE: How, and on what does it “depend"?
Anastasia: First and foremost, it would depend
on how well and for how long I have known the person. I am not going to give
out RL info or images to just anyone I come across.
SLE: Would you, at a certain point,
insist on seeing that other person's RL picture, and would you be willing to
share yours?
Anastasia: I don't know that I would insist on
sharing RL pictures. I have known many people
in my SL for a year or more and we have never seen a RL pic of each other...
With others whom I consider close friends or family I have shared a RL image,
and they with me.
SLE: Does seeing
someone's RL picture change your perception of that avatar?
Anastasia: I can't
say for me personally it has. I get to know the person first and foremost, and I
try not to judge a book by its cover. If
in a SL relationship of a romantic nature, it may alter perceptions, as you do
get used to someone looking a certain way as an avatar which may differ greatly
from their RL person, but the underlying person is still the same either way.

When you go In Second Life © (SL), it is quite clear that
the time spent is taken away from one’s real life (RL); this being the minimum
effect of SL on RL, what other consequences on one’s RL are there due to
various encounters in SL?
Stareyes Galaxy polled avatars on this subject, and also
asked an expert for an assessment.
I had the pleasure of discussing the subject with Hondo
Slade (Lone Wolf), who had a heart-breaking RL story, and thing or two to say
about services to veterans in SL. In his opinion, the strongest effects of SL
on RL are in relationships.
SLE: So, you mean,
when you are with someone in SL, it will carry over to RL?
Hondo: Yes, it does. Have you
ever had a partner that you trusted so much that you start to talk about your RL
to your companion?
Hondo
told of his experience with a girl in a neighboring country, with whom he fell
in love. After two years of dating in SL and in RL, she dropped him cold. After
a few months, he’s still depressed and gets less on SL than when he was in this
relationship. “Bottom line: [in] relationships
just like in the real world, [breakups] hurt after many years of being
together.”

The
duality of existence is seen when we try to “escape” reality, creating anonymous
virtual – selves giving us the freedom to unleash ourselves from self and
society determined roles, and experience the world afresh. Yet, the “real” us
sits behind a keyboard and types via our avis, thoughts in our “real mind. The
thoughts we think about our own-selves, we project to the world. Unknowingly,
we come to understand our First lives better. Second Life does not seem less “real” than a phone call. Experiences we
acquire online be it good or bad, spill over and change our lives in the real
world, often without our awareness. How can this be translated to improving the
“real” me is the question. Because once the computer is shut down, that is what
I have to face....
Today
we have the "Real Deal"; the combo SL+RL fighter and the anarchist. Yet
at the same time the softie who wouldn't hurt a dog's tail. This self described
Jessica Rabbit is "Julya Lykin". This is the story of one Avi on SL
who has shown me the true meaning of fighting to live for the right reasons. She
has fought through heart disease and 6 surgeries and still believed enough in
the goodness of this world to find her love in SL and now married to him over a
year. She is certainly not the only one. There are wonderful people in SL and
RL who fight to live each single day. This is a representation of all of you
fighters out there; and also for those, looking for a reason to live.
And suddenly, out of
the blue, SL makes sense....

At this point everyone in my vampire family hates me except Snake.
I was called for the first time by Amy to tell me what a slut I was, when I
hadn’t looked at Snake that way once. One he was introduced to me as
Amy’s, two I wasn’t interested at the time in that stuff, and three his avi
really wasn’t that appealing to me. I had also experienced my first day as
a stripper in the clan’s club… Let’s just say I wasn’t so great on a
pole. One of Ophelia’s friends came to the club to teach me and a few
others how to emote. ‘Brutus’ is one of the most awesome emoters I know
on Second Life to this day and the best part- he’s a really great guy. So
I sign on to SL where the clan that hates my guts ignores me, another stripper
‘Genie’ befriends me, and I go to the emote class.

Part 1:
Trying to practice Business without knowledge
is like sailing an uncharted sea. I talked to some avis, who have managed to
make a success of themselves in business in SL and yet have not forgotten who
they were to start out with and have remained true to themselves. These are
honest detailed interviews, though lighthearted at times. While it is true that
business is dull facts and sheets, there is nothing to stop us from having some
fun. Understanding the minds behind the ones who have made a strong business
can sometimes be more rewarding than trying to look for easy “tips and tricks”
to be successful overnight.
So here’s the candid and amazing Pixy and
another secret avi for you artists out there … read on!

Crσιㄨ aka Pixy.Snook ; you are a successful
blogger and businesswoman in SL. Thank you for spending time out with us to

Pixy.Snook: You are SO
welcome! I'm honored really. I never expected to be doing an interview.
Orchids: Who’s αмαɭϮнєα Ɗﻉ ɭα Crσιㄨ?
Pixy: I am me. I'm sugar and spice
and everything nice. Toss in some sparkles, something shiny, lots of color, mix
in some love, shake it all up and that’s me. The RL me has pink hair, piercings
and tattoos - I know many in SL have these but are perfectly 'normal' in RL. I
embrace this in RL and SL but I can. I've always held down a job, and had a
relatively prosperous career WITH my pink hair but I also have the personality
to back it up. I'm cosmo Goth geek, with a smidge of bubble Goth mixed in. I
think this tends to reflect in my designs. Oh Ohhh and the name Amalthea - that’s
the name of The Last Unicorn, a great cheesy 80's animated movie, the Lady
Amalthea. Teenie bit a triva in there I guess and one of my favorite movies.
