Introducing the SL Enquirer's very own Agony Aunt - Lacy Muircastle reporting ....

In our quest to be of service to our loyal readers and to the SL community at large, the SL Enquirer now offers an Agony Aunt column.

That’s SLife … with Lacy

Your SL Enquirer Agony Aunt

Really? And what exactly is an "agony aunt" I hear you ask?  According to that 100% accurate repository of all human knowledge, Wikipedia, an agony aunt is "[a]n advice column . . . in a magazine or newspaper written by an advice columnist (colloquially known in British English as an agony aunt, or agony uncle if the columnist is a male)."

Do you have a burning question about manners, style, sex or relationships* in Second Life?  Lacy has experience with all of these, in spades, and she will knowledgeably answer your questions about them!  (And, unlike your real aunt, she won’t judge you.)

How do you ask advice from Lacy?  Simply ask your question by sending me a detailed notecard inworld or emailing me at lacy.muircastle@yahoo.com.  I will then post your question and my answer below in the SL Enquirer, in a relatively timely manner.  Your question may be modified slightly for clarity/brevity's sake or in order to omit identifying information, or ignored if you're clearly just messing with me.

* Lacy will not give legal advice, but may be able to point you in the right direction
   Lacy regrets to inform younger readers that this column is for persons aged 18+.
   Lacy reserves the right to decline to answer any letter.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Food for Thought: Alternative Accounts also known as Alts – Ccoursey Reporting…

            Have you ever approached an avatar on Second Life and they already knew you, talked as if they were your best friend, yet you’d never even heard the name mentioned before and/or they were really young compared to the people you are usually around?

Then they tell you they are the alternative avatar or another, an alt.  We’ve all met one, some don’t even own up to being alts.  When is it time to call your Second Life quits and began anew?   Is there a time?  Why do people make alts?  I’m only four months old and I had an alt for all of a week.  Yes, I was ready to disappear from current radar and drop off the current road I was taking.  A friend made a comment that really stuck with me though:  People who are alts are too cowardly to face the paths they have carved.  True or False?

Make a Wish in Second Life- sarahelisebeth Brenham Reporting…

Wouldn't it be great if Second Life© came with a lamp that produced wishes? Let's dream a little and see what wishes we would make.

Depression In Second Life Part 2 - Interview with Lanai Jarrico - Orchids Zenovka Reporting…

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;
And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.
And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.
Much of your pain is self-chosen.
It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.
Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquillity:
For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen,
And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears.

SL Business interview and advice - Part 2 - Orchids Zenovka reporting ....

View of an Artist:

So you are the temperamental artist. Oh! You don’t believe in the business of business. Well, let’s take a leaf out of our very own earlier SLE interviewed artist Judi Lynn. She has the right focus while not losing any of the artistic enthusiasm …

Orchids: Who is JudiLynn India?

JudiLynn: Known in SL as JudiLynn India and RL as Judi Lynn, my mission is to share my vision and message as an artist with the global community.

My work embodies my spirit and personality. My goal is to allow you to experience the image with your own mind's eye. My work is entirely intuitive. I get lost in the layering of texture and color. Occasionally, I will include figurative work if my spirit is so presented with the composition. Just as there is order in the chaos of the universe, the energy within me is brought into focus one canvas at a time.

DEPRESSION IN SL, PART 1: How do you reach out for help or help others overcome emotional issues- Orchids Zenovka Reports

SONNET 29
When, in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possess'd,
Desiring this man's art and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.
PARAPHRASE
When I’ve fallen out of favor with fortune and men,
All alone I weep over my position as a social outcast,
And pray to heaven, but my cries go unheard,
And I look at myself, cursing my fate,
Wishing I were like one who had more hope,
Wishing I looked like him; wishing I were surrounded by friends,
Wishing I had this man's skill and that man's freedom.
I am least contented with what I used to enjoy most.
But, with these thoughts – almost despising myself,
I, by chance, think of you and then my melancholy
Like the lark at the break of day, rises
From the dark earth and (I) sing hymns to heaven;
For thinking of your love brings such happiness
That then I would not change my position in life with kings.

Postcard from Philadelphia: Back From My Vacation!- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

I am finally back from a two week vacation from Second Life and finally all caught up with emails . I didn’t skip town or fly off to some other country or some fancy trip away,  I stayed in Pa and was host to family that flew in from the Caribbean and Hawaii.
With a houseful of 9, plus more family that came to visit the visitors, Numbers reached to a good 14 at times!  My days were jam packed with school, finals, food, late nights, food, outings, food, a zoo trip, food, bowling and more food! I was, to say the least, very busy!  With an extra few pounds added to my scale and a totally embarrassing bowling score…I am officially back in Second Life.

Before I share what transpired in the last couple weeks, I would like to give Lacy Muircastle a big shout out for stepping into my heels and handling SLE operations while I was gone. Thank you!  If you all didn’t notice anything different, my sneaking away for a couple weeks went unnoticed…perfect.

Blurring the Lines Between SL and RL -DoctorKaren Kanto Reporting…

There is, and has always been, a lot of discussion and even argument about the lines and boundaries between "real life" and "second life".

In this short piece, I hope to explore some of the issues involved in this, some of the potential dangers, potential benefits, and, ultimately, answer the question, "Can an SL relationship lead to lasting love?" In this, I am following many other authors who have written great pieces on the subject. This is simply my contribution to the mix.

For the purposes of this discussion, let's start with some definitions. Real Life (RL) is that set of experiences you have while you are alive. Second Life (SL), on the other hand, is a computer network-mediated means of communication and interaction. As such, it is just one of all the various ways you might communicate or interact in your RL. SL is a part of RL. SL IS RL. So those who assert that "this is a REAL person behind my avatar" are quite correct. Up to a point. Not all of RL is "the same thing". To understand SL better, let's look a moment at RL and the concept of multiplicity of personality.

Real Life Birthdays vs Second Life Rez Days- Pandora Drezelan Reporting..

I recently celebrated my fiftieth birthday in real life which was a really big deal for me, hitting half a century and I still feel the same which is a bonus.

At the end of this year I will be celebrating my fourth rez day in Second Life and for me both experiences vary a lot. Some people celebrate their real life birthdays within Second Life and vice versa with their rez days and real life.

Adventures of Snake IV- Ccoursey Reporting...

                Snake , my liege, my boss, my friend was devastated that I was putting in my notice.  Victor, my closest friend, wasn’t pleased.  He told me to walk away from the clan, have fun like him, forget those that didn’t like me, that they shouldn’t ruin my experience.

 Between the two of them I was torn…  On one hand I did enjoy talking to them, I did have fun at times, but I didn’t want to have Amy or Ophelia on my mind while I was dealing with my real life.  Snake went out of his way to have someone teach me to DJ even so I wouldn’t have to work the pole any longer.  I felt lost and lonely on Second Life, I wasn’t getting a lot of the concepts, and there was a lot of drama.  I logged off, telling Snake and Victor I would think it over, but it just seemed too much for too little.  I could just give them my e-mail.
