Music is a staple of Second Life entertainment., whether you are at a nightclub “breaking it down” to your favorite DJ or hitting the numerous venues to catch a performance, it should always be an enjoyable experience.

Each SL Musician has their own style whether they are doing covers and writing their own tunes or playing requests and interacting with the audience on a stream. Artists can even perform with other musicians, using dual streaming. When you include the many different genres that can be found in Second Life, the music scene definitely has something for everyone; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

 


Recently while exploring for a spot to chill and take in the atmosphere, I came across a musician by the name of IceCremn Merlin. What grabbed my attention was his name. It made me want to know more about him.

ARTS and LITERATURE: Let The "Bard" Times Roll!

There is nothing quite like an outdoor festival, even a virtual one!  Saturday and Sunday, August 18^th and 19^th will see the sandy shores of Mango in the Fruit Islands once again host Shakespeare and Shakespeare-inspired performances on the BARD ON THE VIRTUAL BEACH outdoor Festival Stage.  (Don't forget to wave at "Ismael" the whale, and bring something to feed "Yorrick" the pesky peacock). 
  Each day features different performances, with Saturday’s event beginning at 3:00pm and Sunday’s at Noon.  Each session is approximately 90 minutes in length, but it is a Festival and anything could happen!  Last year’s BARD drew more residents to the Fruit Islands than virtual ABBA did, so it could be adviseable to get there a little early and scope out your seat.  As always with live performances in the virtual world, your enjoyment and everyone else’s will be enhanced if you remove as many huds, mysti-tool, bling, scripted clothing, and primmy hair as possible: keep it simple, and don’t be naked!

How do you spend your lindens? Would you help a stranger in need?

Often time we take our real lives for granted as we wander around Second Life looking for adventures or an escape from reality, but unfortunately for some who come here, they have needs that none of us would ever know unless they come forward and are willing to share more about themselves.

I personally don't know Roofus or Pan, but they are residents of our virtual world and need our help.

I stumbled upon a venue that is holding a fundraiser concert to raise funds for Roofus and Pan. It is to help raise funds for emergency housing for them and their children.

How can you help?

Could you go a day without a new mesh outfit?  New hairstyle or a pair of shoes?  Imagine wondering where you will sleep tonight or who will have your back when you are in need?

Long term sitting in front of a computer screen playing Second Life can kill you!

If this headline didn’t grab your attention, perhaps you could care less that something inside your body could be slowly building up a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) leading to a blood clot in your lungs, heart or brain also known as a pulmonary embolism.

Most people that are aware of these dangers usually associate this threat with travellers on airplanes and even office workers. The risks to Second Life © residents that spend hours upon hours sitting in the same position, are very real and dangerous.

Recently, I interviewed a Second Life © residents that wished to remain anonymous but wanted to share her story in hopes she can save a life and spread awareness to the dangerous many may not be aware of. “Jane’s” ordeal began when she thought she had bumped her leg. Her symptoms were redness, swelling and immense pain. Jane saw her doctor and was immediately rushed by ambulance to the hospital where she was saved from what could have been a very tragic situation.

SL Newser: "Jamm for Genes" Raises Over 300,000 Lindens

Last weekend, the "Jamm for Genes" event raised over 300,000 Lindens. From 10PM Thursday (Aug 2) to close to Midnight on Sunday evening (Aug 5), live musicians performed for the Australian charity at three different clubs, one at a time. On late Thursday, "Lacy's Place" in the Sasha sim started the action. Just as the events there began to wind down 22 hours later, at 8PM the musicians at "The Pocket" at Cassandra began playing.

GONE FISHING ....

A friend of mine told me about the fishing craze sweeping through Second Life.  Not really being into fishing myself I thought I would investigate the fishing scene in SL.  There have been so many passing fads that boom and then fade but it appears that fishing is not one of them.  It transpires that fishing games have been with us in SL in various forms for a number of years now and as with everything it has evolved over that time.

WIN Announces Third Annual International Games Tournament

WARRIOR INSTINCT SIM: WIN owner Cal Quan announced on Sunday night that entries were now being taken for the 2012 International Games boxing tournament, to be held on the sim.

Participating boxers will represent the countries of their choice, and will compete for a grand prize of five thousand lindens, with lesser amounts for second and third places.

The tournament is slated to begin on August 19th, with matches taking place during the regularly scheduled weekly events on the sim.  Further details will be forthcoming as the tournament shapes up.

Any boxers interested in taking part should contact Cal Quan.

Today, in SecondLife, Casilinum comes alive once more only this time, her arch rival in the gladiatorial games is Capua, each city wanting to see their finest gladiators reach the Colosseum in Rome. The rivalry is so great that Capua has tried to annex Casilinum creating bitter rivalry and debate. This is the setting for the new role-play sim opening this weekend in SecondLife called "Gods of Valor."

One of the more popular places in Second Life is London City area, which offers a number of events. And when the real London has a celebration, it's often reflected here, such as the Queen's Jubilee earlier in the year.

On Friday July 27, the 2012 Summer Olympics begin in the real life London. In London City, the place has been decorated with Olympic symbols, and a stage has been set up for Olympic themed events. The opening ceremonies will be covered live, and presumably live coverage will continue throughout the games to their closing on August 12.
