There are times when an avatar, logging on, is restricted to low-bandwidth connections. Mobile laptop connections, firewall issues, or just plain choice may be the deciding factors to switch to a non-graphic viewer. Fortunately, the Second Life third-party viewer (TPV) list includes such gems as METAbolt ® and Radegast ®.

Sometimes one has to make a choice whether to log on at all, or to use text-only viewers. One of the earliest text-only viewers was the famous AjaxLife that was developed by then 15-year-old Katharine Berry and gained wide popularity until it fell by the wayside, probably due to the demands of the upkeep. Today, the TPV list has two text-only viewers, METAbolt and Radegast.

 Fashion is defined as a popular trend in the style of one’s attire and even manner.  

In the 19^th century, fashion houses began to emerge, usually created by male designers like Charles Frederick Worth who was the first designer to sew his label on garments he created. 

 In the 20^th century, most high fashion was originating from Paris and trickled into London. In the same century, Fashion magazines with photography became very popular in different countries. These publications would send their editors to Paris fashion shows. This gave rise to department stores that would purchase the latest fashions being showcased, stealing the designs, recreating and selling them at different locations. Fashion magazines were responsible for influencing the wide spread of fashion trends and effecting public taste.

Today, fashion design has become a competitive art form and is part of many of our daily lives and what sets us apart from others. It is a big deal in Second Life just as it is in the real world.  Without this form of creativity, people just like avatars would dress alike and it would be difficult for them to show their personal style. From high fashion couture, formal, casual and active to urban, beachwear, footwear, hair, accessories and fantasy garments; Second Life has a large selection of things to wear. What adds to personal style is attitude to pull off whatever we put together for a unique ensemble.

Dougie Boxen is CEO and publisher of Style Kingdom©. For a considerably new fashion publication, it currently boasts over 1000 reads so far for its latest issue.  SK is a non-profit magazine that aims to showcase the best styling talents in Second Life. August marks Style Kingdom’s 4^th issue. Each issue includes a note from the editor, gorgeous models, new faces in fashion, creative photography and descriptions of the latest trends available in Second Life.

Second life as long as I can remember has had a gaming culture. There have been place where you can gamble and win Lindens and sometimes lose Lindens. That is what makes it a gamble.  Casinos are illegal in Second Life and have been banned but there are places that you can still participate in gaming that does not go against the TOS.

Whatever your views are on this activity in Second Life, to make SL a world which equals Real life in certain aspects, contests of chance where you can win money, is very popular in Second Life and will always be.

            We had started our family, our clan, and things were coming together.  Kimber was awesome.  Snake showed a bit of interest in her, but Poet stepped in and stomped that…  That ended up backfiring and Kimber and Poet became a bit more than friends.  ::Sighs::  I think that was the point where Snake decided we should be more than friends.  He started getting friskier and more free with his comments.  We would take the two out hunting, shopping, or spend a bit teaching them about the club.  I was usually with Poet and Kimber with Snake.  I loved them.  I am tenderhearted anyway, but I became attached fast, because they were as excited about everything as I was.  We had very little in common, but it was the fact we were taking the journey of Second Life together and relying on each other that bonded us.

RA YA Designs is Taking Mesh to the Next Level- Piers Diesel Reporting...

In Second Life mesh has come leaps and bounds from clothing, shoes and hair to furniture houses and accessories.

However, there is something I discovered which uses mesh in another format that is very clever; mesh avatar models!

 You may have seen them around the grid. They can be in the shape of an avatar on the floor, draped over chairs or objects. Their appearance is very realistic and attention to detail has definitely not been spared. To me this has taken mesh out of the norm and to a whole new level.

DEXLER CLUB CLOSES ON SECOND LIFE Nomads Aries Reporting…

July 25th, 2013 was a very sad day for some Second Life residents. It was the day the Dexler Club closed its doors. In SL, clubs come and go frequently and many venues fall by the wayside. A club's closing is not uncommon.

 Dexler was a well established and long running club. If you have been in SL for some time, no doubt you have heard of the Dexler Club.

The Dexler club was owned by Karina Dexler and began in 2009. It wasn't long after that, Dexler took its place as one of the strongest, most professional clubs in the virtual world of SL. The club had a regular spot in the Destinations Guide; their traffic was “real traffic”, never padded by bots. Their music was varied; their djs and hosts were international and always professional. The staff treated everyone and each other with respect, politeness and kindness. Dexler ran like a well oiled machine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until July 25^th 2013.

Plans Underway for The 5^th Anniversary Sunburst Blazin1.FM Caribbean Carnival

Sunburst Premier Grid Entertainment in conjunction with TheBlazin1.fm radio hosts its annual Caribbean carnival, and celebrating the 5^th year anniversary of producing this event for the Second Life residents.  The events begin on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 and conclude with the main Caribbean carnival on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at multiple locations.

The Sunburst Caribbean carnivals began in 2008 when I noticed there were hardly any celebrations during the weeks of carnival in Second Life.  Since that time for the next 4 consecutive years, the staff of Sunburst Premier Ent. with the support of some of the most thoughtful and generous sponsors on the grid, have produced a day long full Caribbean carnival to the enjoyment of hundreds of SL residents to date.   Oohlala Sassoon, Owner of Ooh-La-La Skins responded when asked why does she want to sponsor this event: "Blazin' 1 FM has done so much over the years to contribute to bring Caribbean cultural awareness to Second Life, and it just makes sense to sponsor an organization that has shown this much longevity. A Baker’s Dozen of Stareryes Galaxy’s Articles

A baker’s dozen is said to be twelve of today’s bakeries and one of yesterdays. This time, as Stareyes looks back on the dozen articles she has written before today’s one, it’s the other way ‘round.

I am just an ordinary girl, out there on Second Life © (SL) on my own. I have always relied on the kindness of strangers, and luckily, I have been able to stay out of trouble. Idling away just isn’t my style, and I have always been eager to find purpose in my ventures in SL.

It took a little over three years on SL for me to find a job that matched my abilities. In the beginning, I had just a few modeling gigs after which my funds were dwindling slowly but steadily. Soon, I felt that doing hunts and scouting for freebies was not the best way to go about Second Life. I started writing in the beginning of May 2013 when the Editor of SLE, Lanai Jarrico hired me on a free-lance basis. Since the first article was published, I have not looked back – until today.
