An Open Casting Call For Mesh-Prim Fusion- Silky Soulstar Reporting…

A girlfriend of mine once proclaimed, "I have seen the future and it is mesh!"  We all upgraded our viewers and raced to acquire as many alphas as we could.

Some of us … <shudder> … went so far as to trash all of our prims as fast as a Torley Linden tutorial.  But now we know, the future of SL Fashion is instead an eclectic mix of flexi, mesh AND prims.

How to Fix and Alter your Hats, Scarves and Clothing to Fit You- Tea Couturier Reporting.

Scarves and hats can be very hard to fit over hair in SL. If you have your own hair peeking out of the hat, it either looks small for your head too big when you try to modify it. That is IF you are able to modify them.

Here are a few of my tips on getting that right look  that fits.
In Second Life it is best if you are going to wear a hat to get one with a menu that has a resizable script in it. Most clothing and accessories have some type of menu which enables you to adjust them to fit you.  This is a good starting point.
Some menus have restore back to shop size, this again is helpful  if you mess up you can just click this button and it will restore it to how you bought it. My tip is to wear the hat and see how it looks under your hair. Then touch the hat or right click and a menu should appear at the corner of your screen (on the right hand side).

LEA 19: The Portuguese Way – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Winter Wardhani, Chagal Campestre, Flor Campestre, Janjii Rugani and Wan Laryukov are not just random names. These are five people who, by fate or by chance, have met in Second Life and have teamed up by a common interest: Art! Their joint forces and ideals resulted in the birth of LEA 19 - The Portuguese Way.

LEA is an acronym for Linden Endowment for the Arts, a Linden Lab initiative that aims at promoting and embracing art in Second Life by providing the necessary infrastructures (land and prims) for artists to develop their skills. For more info: http://lea-sl.org/about

In Second Life music plays a big part in the entertainment business.

Finding a DJ that plays the kind of music you like to listen to is not as hard.  Most DJ’s in Second Life have groups where you can join and be kept informed of where and when they are playing.

To save you some time looking for a DJ I have comprised a small list I feel covers a wide genre of music.

Doing It Right the Classical Way: Magnus Brody DJs to the Tunes of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Beyond, at Highlands – Stareyes Galaxy Reporting

Hearing about a DJ doing classical repertoire might make you go “What? Come again?”
Magnus Brody has a steady DJ gig at the Highlands sim doing just that – playing classical music. Stareyes Galaxy met with him one afternoon, asking the same question, and a few more besides.

I had seen Magnus do his classical gig a few times, once with a movie theme. While the audience at these gigs was not abundant, it was all the more enthusiastic.  I arranged an interview with him, to see what it was about, and met him at his residence, the Brody Castle, at the Highlands sim that also boasts the Loch Ness Inn, a famous Scottish club run by Lauraclaire Benelli.

Magnus Brody in real life (RL) was a part-time community radio broadcaster since 1990 in London, U. K. In 2001 he moved to Scotland, and later joined Second Life © (SL) when it was still a budding phenomenon.

Lag is a B*tch, and Then You Crash – Stareyes Galaxy Reporting

More often than not, in a social situation on Second Life© (SL), either you experience lag, or hear someone complain about it. Even in instant messages on SL, lag sometimes makes words get mangled and out of context, and sometimes what you say disappears completely.

What is lag and what causes it? How can you minimize lag? Stareyes Galaxy got on SL to find out.

Linden Lab (LL) maintains a web page for the “minimum requirements” to run Second Life, and looking at that page, both the hardware platform and the network connection have a profound effect on how you are able to utilize the capabilities of SL.

Celebrating Veteran’s Day in Second Life- Davvek Suun Ki Reporting…

As we observe Veteran’s Day, we owe a huge “Thank You” to the many veterans and their families; who have given us the ability to enjoy the freedom we now have.  Veterans Day is an official United States holiday which honors people who have served in armed service.

Veterans have become our "heroes" in this Age of Awakening.  Never has this been more profound then against the current War on Terrorism. These brave individuals function as a collective to ensure the freedom we now possess stays with us.  We owe them everything we enjoy today and have over these many years.
Within our virtual community, many groups have set aside special events to celebrate their commitments for our country.  Here are some locations drawing crowds this year:

Loss and Grief in Second Life: In Memoriam of all the John and Jane Does' who have Lost their Souls – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Life is made of gains, starting with the birth itself, and losses like death.
There is no escape for the many events that afflict our souls, not even in Second Life. We create bonds of affection with other residents: friendships, relationships in love and in business, family. Yet, no one conceives that those same people who have crossed our path to give us a piece of them may not be there one day.

Fashion Colours for Fall - Tea Couturier Reporting...

Colours that are in for each season can be confusing because they are always changing with what is hot on today’s runways. Traditionally warm earthy colours are used for Autumn/Fall; usually matching the leaves when fall arrives.

Warm colours such as browns, reds and oranges work perfectly for fall. Here are a few fall choices I found and feel is a perfect start to begin creating your fall wardrobe.

DeeTaleZ *THROWOUT* thick knit sweater comes in lovely fall colors. It is rich in color. This will work well with pants or jeans with pumps and shoes. Sweaters are perfect for fall and this is not a thick sweater so can be worn with a blouse underneath to complement it.

Avie Poll: What does your name mean? – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Can you imagine what would it be like to have no name?
It would be a complete chaos and would change the way of communicating as we know it today. While in real life we are limited to the name given at birth, in Second Life we have the freedom to choose a name as an indicator of anonymity and yet, as our personal and in-transmissible identification card to the virtual world.

The fact that we can choose our name makes it very special, whether because it has a symbolic character, because it’s funny, meaningful or simply because we identify with it. But our task of choosing may not be that simple in our first steps before entering the doors of Second Life, especially if we want that very specific name and we face with the message “name already in use” during the registration process. Second Life’s new feature to have a display name offers us a second chance to choose it right.

While most times others can read our names beyond the written characters; our gender, your nationality, a first impression of our role in SL, sometimes we find people with names we cannot even pronounce if we try. Who never had to copy the name of a friend or a stranger in his/her profile before starting a conversation?

The SLE wandered the streets of Second Life searching for unusual names and asking people: What does your name mean? We would like to thank all the participants.

Zooby Babies Establish Charity Collection- Stareyes Galaxy reporting…

Earlier in October, a real-life (RL) news story came to light exposing an alleged child-abuse and neglect case in Tulsa, OK, U.S.A.

A RL couple had nearly starved to death their 3-year-old baby spending all their time online.
Apparently this couple had a Zooby Baby in Second Life © (SL) and when Zooby
Babies learned of the incident, the owners, Malyssa Black and Christian Mercer
reacted and set up a charity donation in-world for the Alliance for Children’s Rights.

Visit Zoobyville and help us bring awareness to others in the fight against child abuse

Meet Selina Greene, Owner of Book Island- Piers Diesel Reporting...

Books in Real Life are as popular as they are in Second Life. It is a way for people to either educate themselves. Flick threw magazines for inspiration or to get away and engulf themselves in another world or life.

The Book Island owned by Selina Greene who cleverly came up with the idea of a sim totally dedicated to books and other reading format. Book Island has incorporated the book club idea and taken it to another level; where others can immerse themselves in books or discuss literature with others. Other activities include socializing at events hosted on Book Island.

Selina was kind enough to sit down with me and chat about her creation and how Book Island came about.

Avie Poll: Regrets in SL: Regrets in Second Life - Is there anything you wish you never did in SL? – Glossom Resident Reporting…

In our favor or against us, at some times in our lives a sense of regret takes hold of us.
Regret is one of those feelings that seem to trouble everyone's life, even our virtual ones.  If socializing in a multicultural virtual world means sharing cultures, experiences and ways of living, it also means dealing with opposing ideas, actions and moral and ethical values which may lead to incompatibilities.

What makes us unique individuals, our own way of thinking and acting is present in everything we do and when interacting with other people.  A less friendly or misjudged behavior or attitude, a word placed in the wrong moment, a thoughtless action or any other decisions can trigger negative reactions and a whirlwind of negative feelings that may result in broken ties, lost friendships or any other consequences to the various degrees of seriousness.

Dealing with the consequences of our actions is not easy but living with regret is painful. Sadness, self-punishment, concert are words that best describe how you feel after hurting somebody or even yourself.  So how can you cope with regret?

We traveled the streets of Second Life and the SL Forums asking residents the question: Regrets in Second Life - Is there anything you wish you never did in SL? The SLE would like to thank those who have promptly agreed to participate.

Daylight Savings Ends on November 3rd. Don't Forget to Turn your Clock Back 1 Hour - November 3 @ 2 am (USA)

What is daylight Savings about?

Daylight saving time
(DST)—also summer time in British English— is the practice of advancing clocks during the lighter months so that evenings have more daylight and mornings have less. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in autumn
