As a VW reporter I hear all sorts of interesting things from people. If I wanted to sit here all day and gossip or dishing out scoops about awesome people, I would be a popular lunch lady. These days the Lindens, are treated more like fallen angels that don’t show up when called upon or lack the ability to create miracles for residents. Once again, we find ourselves with free will, our own imagination and choices to make as long as we don’t break the terms of service. We have the choice to squander our time role playing, getting down to business or a little bit of both. In the years I have spent observing the Second Life community the business sector has grown dramatically. Back in 2005, avatars were still a bit wet behind the ears in business. Many premium members produced freebies and corner shops in countless malls or used rental ad boards at different in-world venues. You can still see that today but the difference is, those that are successful, utilize more media sources, social networks and services that offer real perks like a boost in customer traffic and revenues.

Avatars are banking up Lindens and cashing them out at an increasing rate using e-commerce portals like Podex Exchange. Many already know how to be profitable using this company and are excited about the new visa card . Others are just realizing how the virtual world works with new technology and services. How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Shon: Funny. Talented. Sincere. Creative. Intriguing.


What brought you to Second Life and how has it impacted you as a person?
Shon: I came to SL for a RL college class a few years ago, and actually, I hated it. LOL I came from the class and left. A few months later, I returned and began to move around the grid and check some things out and decided to stay. The biggest impact, and it's not a really positive one, lol, is that it's made me doubly busy in my overall life. Just like in RL, I have a whole set of friends that require attention and too much work to do. Ha! A positive, however, is that I have had the opportunity to be a part of experiences that I have yet to do in the real world, such as help put together Broadway style plays and performances.

Norfolk Slim City– MWGA will be hosting the first in-world Second Life media expo June 1 through July 8, bringing together Second Life’s major media all under one roof.
“MWGA created an annual media expo to celebrate business as a whole in Second Life,” MWGA owner Lyric Navarita said. “This is a way for businesses, as well as the publishing industry, to get together and mingle with guests on a more personable level. I hope this expo opens a new form of communication and sparks interest to be more involved in what our platform has to offer - an opportunity to learn more about the publishing industry through our workshops, engage with those within the industry via social and networking activities and celebrate the achievements of businesses in Second Life.”
Several workshops will be offered on site from professionals in the media industry on a range of topics from their experiences in their fields, production and publishing and distribution technologies. A final workshop will also include applying guided imaginary to the SL experience from Pura Vida Wellness Resort.
"The MWGA Expo is a unique event raising awareness of the talent and diversity of media available in SL and will hopefully encourage new people to participate in this constantly evolving industry," MWGA Media Expo participant MANIERA LLC's COO Aphrodite Brianna said.

Performances will also be held by radio’s KHNY Honey 103 (June 16) and BoSL Radio (June 17) as well as dance troop Dazzlers (July 8). A media panel will be held later in the month to discuss various industry topics, and an awards banquet will finish off the expo July 8 and recognize elites in their fields at The Rose Theatre. Banquet guest speakers include Avenue Staff Writer Spruce Canning and MANIERA LLC CEO Topaz Joubert.

Hip Hop is my favorite genre. I’m not ashamed to go hard on some Jay Z, Rick Ross or  even some Kanye west while driving in my car or cleaning my house. I haven't gotten the cops called on me yet for loud music but I've gotten dirty looks.  It’s not just a genre of music, it’s a culture. From music and fashion to attitude. People can either love it, hate it or keep it movin, cause Hip Hop is here to stay.

One thing you can find in the Hip Hop genre that you can’t find in many cookie cutter songs these days, is realism, slick rhymes mixed with humor. The hustle of the street and the way a hip hop artist can use their experiences to overcome obstacles and attain a dream, is what most is about.  But lets not get it twisted. Hip Hop is not all about being gangsta, hardships and hustles in the hood.  Artists such as Taylor Swift, Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, Gweneth Paltrow even that old crow Madonna has been known to go hard and spit on the mic and those ladies probubly couldn't even bust a grape in a fruit fight.

Lately I’ve been getting notices about something called SL9B. It’s short for Second Life Ninth Birthday. Or the ninth anniversary, if you prefer. A group of SL’ers has formed to create the ultimate birthday party for everyone to celebrate at!

A friend of mine suddenly and out of the blue announced that she was in the SLRA roller Derby team and did I want to come along and watch a match?  I searched my sketchy mental database to come up with any point of reference I might have had as to what she might possibly have been talking about. Here, let me just point out I’m English, most of us haven’t heard of roller derby much less know what it’s about and it’s for that possible reason I eventually came up with a mental picture of female ex-cons or women with excessive tattoos racing round a track on roller skates, trying to kill each other between chugging down cans of lager and chain smoking cheroots.
