The Vampire and Lycan role play platform Bloodlines © has generated a thirst as well as rage among residents since its inception in 2008. The allure to become a vampire clan member and to advance in the ranks of the game system has led to thirst of many vampires to feed on unsuspecting newbies, and consequently, generated rage in well-informed residents against their sometimes unscrupulous hunting practices. Among other deprecating things, Bloodlines has also been called an outright Ponzi scheme, which has added to the resentment toward Bloodlines among avatars at large. What is the reality today in the vampire circles? Stareyes Galaxy had the privilege to visit a castle and interview a Clan Queen.

Almost everyone who started out in second Life©, did so to play a game. However, with real people behind the screen, sometimes you are bound to fall in love.

So many of us, (myself included) Come to the virtual world because we are seeking something in our lives. Weather it is due to a physical disability and the desire to have a job, or if it´s more for social interaction, we find ourselves logging on daily to fulfill our wildest dreams. The best part about such a fantastic platform, is that unlike other social networking media, we have the ability to physically spend time doing activities that are just like those in the real world. Not only can we spend such time, It is time spend with real people from around the globe. When we find others with common interests, even though it may not originally be intended, we find ourselves in deep friendships, and sometimes even love. There is an age old question that remains in both our real and virtual lives. What turns the opposite sex on, and how can you prepare yourself for love?

I got to speak with several residents about their thoughts and feelings about virtual love, and what turns them on about the other gender, and also what turns them off. Lets take a look, and find out how you can be successful in the battle of the sexes!

Second Life romances can mirror real life romances in many ways. Couples can meet, fall in love, and do many of the same activities virtually as they can in real life.

Of course not all romances end positively and just like in real life, Second Life romances can cause heartache and stress. In this article I will explore how to bounce back from bad Second Life relationships and share the stories of two Second Life avatars who recently overcame the struggles of bad relationships of their own.

I sat down to speak first with “Tyler” who had a botched Second Life romance last year. Tyler stated that he and his former Second Life girlfriend, “Emily,” had dated in Second Life for two years. Both he and Emily considered themselves to be more than just a Second Life romance. As Tyler explained, “Once you share so many details about yourself with a person, it is hard not to take the romance into real life”. Emily and Tyler spent most of their days together in Second Life either clubbing or exploring. They had even ventured over to other virtual worlds. By year number two of the relationship, both had started making plans to take the relationship further into real life and Emily had even booked a flight to visit Tyler.

I went out clubbing to find out about the woes of beginner DJs.

It truly was an event I will remember for years to come. Scorpinosis Nightfire delivered a touching speech and hosted the party, the talented Jazz and Blues musician Jackie Lefko performed some greats from Billie Holiday and Etta James, and the Paramount Playhouse team who put together a fabulous venue and samples of burlesque performances. I’d also like to give a big shout out to fellow media personnel that came out to celebrate with me. My virtual sisters Lacy Muircastle, Head of advertising and writer at SLE and Persia Bravin, alumni of SLE and currently with BOSL, my advisor, damage control and dearest friend Prince Sonoda, SLE writer Mackenzie Abott, Bill Kaye from SL Business Review, Krissy Sinclair the newly appointed VP of Press Pass Media, VMS Magazine’s new owner Stacy Mosely and SL Newser’s Bixyl Shuftan! Dancing with Michael Jackson proved to be a fan favorite as club-goers joined the History group dancers

On May 19^th and the 20^th, Strupples Davidov watched as the state she lives in was torn apart by tornadoes. One of the May 19 storms passed within sight of her home, but it was the next day's destruction that shook her to the core.

She is safe and still has a home and family. But she watched in horror as the destruction in nearby Moore, Oklahoma, was revealed on television. Homes, businesses and schools were leveled by nature's wrath.

"As a teacher, mother, and just as a human being, it has ripped my heart out," she said "The more I saw, the more it affected me until I couldn't watch any more and had to shut the TV off. I logged into Second Life to try and get those images out of my head, but they wouldn't go."

Watching the television made her feel helpless. But as co-owner of The Inlet, Strupples began to think maybe there was something she could do, after all. "The only way I could think of was holding a music marathon in Second Life. We can make a difference. We can donate to the Red Cross to help them in their aid to Tornado victims."

One real life industry which benefits from virtual worlds and Second Life is the education industry. As a real life educator myself, I have attended real life educational conferences, panel discussions, and have taught university level courses in Second Life.

The new release of Firestorm has not been without its fans or its critics. The critics have even gotten to Firestorm project manager, Jessica Lyon, who took to the official Firestorm blog this week to voice her frustration at the criticism of the latest Firestorm release.

I currently use Firestorm as one of my main Second Life viewers, Singularity being the other one that I use frequently. In the latest release, Firestorm added many features. The biggest one was the ability to render avatars using the new Server Side Baking process, which will replace the old HTTP way to render avatars. Server Side Baking is part of the Linden Lab’s Project Shining, which is aimed at improving avatars and object streaming speeds.

In addition to incorporating this major change, Firestorm also has the ability to back up and restore your viewer settings, which is a very helpful command to have, when your computer dies and you have to reinstall Firestorm and you cannot remember all of those special settings. The Firestorm team has also included a more streamlined and easier way to customize some of your favorite viewer settings, by creating a Quick Preferences panel:

Second Life is indeed a fascinating virtual platform, where you can meet interesting people from all over the globe. You can explore different lifestyles and can learn new things. Socializing is certainly the most prominent feature of SL, which allows us to interact with people in variety of ways. Our random and friendly interactions with people impacts on us in a number of ways, which helps us to better understand people and life as a whole.

Every interaction either short or long term, teaches us something and helps us to improve as a person. Every new person we meet is like reading a new book, a book that stores new stories for us, new experiences and sometimes new lessons too.

Through one of my random interactions, I met Elese Faulkes. Reading her profile I found her to be an interesting person. So I decided to talk to her about her Second Life experience and activities in the virtual world. Elese is a real life artist and exhibits her work in Second Life. I have an assignment for another publication in Second Life, part of which required me to ask a number of prominent SL residents the question “What does SL mean to you?” A number of those I asked simply couldn't be bothered to answer me; I suppose they are above answering questions put to them by some wanna be journo. I have to admit that self-importance in SL is one of my pet peeves; most of us are busy in one way or another, so when push comes to shove our time is all equally valuable (in my opinion of course….)

Having high expectations is something that can be a problem if you are a person that is only into shamelessly dating in the virtual world and wanting to take friendships and relationships into real life but lack certain qualities. Be careful what you get yourself into; perhaps the grass is balding and unkempt on the other side. If you decide to go exploring anyway, take a first aid kit.

If you value your friendships, be sure to consider some things so your expectations in Second Life are not interrupted by unnecessary awkwardness, drama and issues that can get out of control; causing you to lose friends and have bad break ups.

Engaging in Conversation

Before engaging in conversation leading to friendships, romance and self disclosure, be honest with yourself and others or reconsider your activities of getting involved in a virtual world friendship and or relationship. When investing real emotions, you run the risk of being hurt or hurting others.

May 17- In a partial reversal of it's earlier ban, Linden Lab announced earlier today that they will be allowing Third-Party Linden exchange services after all. But so far, only five of the many exchangers have met their approval. Plus, the services now operate under tighter and more limiting terms and conditions.
